As a BlueDrake42 subscriber since his Project Reality days I gotta say:
    1. Game is very raw from the footage so far
    2. I have it in my Steam library since launch, but haven't played it yet
    3. As a recording engineer I listened to gun sounds, and gun sounds are missing a LOT of low frequencies and don't sound great in midrange and hi-range of frequencies. I offered BlueDrake42 offer to mix the sounds, but so far I haven't received any replies.
    4. I genuinely wish this game success and BlueDrake42 for his dedication to FPS communities.
    5. In current state the game is not too alluring to me, just watching reviews I see a lot of glaring "issues", like low res textures, and thin gun sounds.
    6. I am spoiled by games such as Insurgency Sandstorm, Squad and Ground Branch. BUT I am also aware how much Squad has progressed over the years, I saw it. Sandstorm was a great product from the get go. Ground Branch is in perpetual Beta state.
    7. Operation Harsh Doorstop has can go leaps and bound, but it will unlikely to reach Arma 3 levels of complexity, but it can try to get to Battlefield 4 complexity levels, and mimic elements of Squad and Ground Branch.
    8. It's just too raw to call a complete product, I can easily wait for how it goes further and play it later.
    9. Games like Siege saw a huge improvement and also regress of tactical elements. R6 Siege started as pretty hardcore tactical shooter, and turned into Valorant with special abilities, with pizza face skins, and character models dressed as Rick and Morty, or full blown rat. Appealing to little kids, even though this is Rated Mature. Which it is now for the kids.
I would rather play Squad or Insurgency at the current state, but I have huge hopes for vehicular warfare in OHD, but that is some ways to go. Even Squad lacked actual vehicles during release, and ambitions of Insurgency were scrapped to only infantry fighting playstyle. Which is a shame. I wanted to fly the heli like the trailer showed.

Casual Squad/HLL milsim player here. I have enjoyed OHD so far and will keep playing it because it's fun in it's own way, but you said it spot on , the game is in pretty rough shape and need polished up a lot. Bluedrake and his team seem pretty engaged and committed and I have faith they'll get the game where it deserves to be. As far as the ARMA comparison, not everyone want's ARMA levels of complexity, not everyone has time for it or enjoys it being so demanding. Insurgency is like the perfect balance to realism/simplicity. I feel like most players want a that balance. Like I hate arcade shooters like COD/Battlefield with how cartoonish it is, but I don't want to have to dedicate a whole day or several hours for a single game. I will say the audio on the game I feel is pretty nice and is the reason I like the game so much.

No, they are used to having rightful entitlement to a finished product. But that's with paid products only. They take the fact that criticism is valid even if it's free, and conflate it into expectations that should not exist, and that's why in the majority of those critique videos the person on the mic sounds entitled.

Like the Halo mods on Arma take soooo much time to create the Elites, and just recently added Jackels. OHD should be sooo easy to add new things like full on Halo, Starwars, Warhammer, terminator, predator, aliens, like anything I hope to see.

I've not played it because it doesn't appeal to me but this level of criticism and hate on a project like this is hilarious to me. I have not played nor looked at a whole lot on this game. I have seen the trailer, the store page, and a video by Garbaj. He made a good point saying this 'game' seems to be more of a platform and should be better marketed as such. However the game should have an identity to set it apart from other games; a strong base game if you will. The shooter genre is highly saturated at the moment and modding alone will probably not carry this game.
A game not bound by setting should define itself through modes and pacing. From what I've seen the mode is mostly Squad-style conquest. People who want to play that will play Squad or Project Reality. This looks like it is shaping up to be like a slightly more arcade-y Squad or larger Insurgency. It should lean into that and craft some base modes that are fun and unique that highlight the gameplay style. This can be a jumping off point for modders. Give them rulesets, mechanics, and vehicles for them to inspect and play with. Something more than a blank slate that inspires them to think of possibilities. Single player, co-op, or mixed multiplayer is something they could really highlight and expand on.
A clear roadmap of features and what to expect could be very useful for showing the audience a direction. The trailer and store page featuring a bunch of soliders just shooting at eachother communicates nothing. Modders will not make your game, but they will remix and reimagine it. Make them say "what if base game, but...". The whole "oh it doesnt have that, but you can add it yourself!" response i saw to many questions rubbed me the wrong way. Make the base game fun, and when players begin to get tired they will think of ways to change or improve it to continue the fun. In the mean time people should have something to play while mods are being developed.
While I think I understand the goal, there needs to be a good answer to "what is OHD?" beyond "community, community, community, AAA bad...."
    And please lower the viewmodel.

I don't know who hates this game, I love the concept so far, and I am amazed that Bluedrake was able to pull it through, working basically for free (yeah, you can't really support a normal commerical game studio on donations).
Most of the other "sandbox for modders" games were on par or even worse quality AND asked to pay full prise. Arma 3 asked to pay 40$ just so you could beta-test their game for them and was way worse at release. And by the way, animations in Arma 3 are STILL worse than in this free game, lol. And that sluggish vaulting in OHD? Yeah, you can't do it without mods in Arma, after 10 years(!) since full official release, lol. Most of the Arma "complexity" was always written by modders, mainly ACE. (I am using Arma as a most notable sanbox type of game)
Screw Arma - Garry's mod costs 10$ for nothing! Are you serious, people? This is just absurd.
And this is basically analog on Skyrim Creation Kit on steroids - for some reason nobody whines about it. The game is really just a tech demo for this kit.
So I think the right question would be: What made you think everyone hates this game?

i honestly don't understand where this game fits: it's nothing special and, honestly, it's pretty rough. other than this, bluedrake advertised it as a sort of "game that teaches the industry how it's done", which of course it's not. giving the community freedom and pretending that they'll make your game worth a while are two very different things.
also there's no point in bragging for months about not having microtransactions when games like Tarkov did it years ago and succeeded.

    • @mercenarydelta7351

True, but the difference between games like Tarkov and OHD are the dev teams. This game was made by an INDIE dev team, not the AAA dev teams everyone is used to nowadays. While games like Tarkov succeeded off of micro transactions, there are equally (if not, more) games that are ruined by it.
And yes, while it is rough around the edges, it leaves a lot to be desired by the community, especially the modders. Not even a week after Early Access launched and we already have a Starship Troopers mod already...

If people reviewed gmod as some kind of full release as soon as it came out then they'd come to the same kind of conclusion
"You're expected to make your own fun right now & needed more workshop content or built in toolguns"
Idk if gmod was ever free and had always piggybacked on HL, CS, TF assets (which isnt a slight) but gmod right now is packed with content.
Constructive criticism is key to HD improving but people should also have expectations that are inline with what this title is, not expectatons for a AA or AAA fps straight out of the door.
