This level of interactivity is something I always dreamed of as a kid holy shit
Imagine this concept being taken to the next level for a game like GTA or Cyberpunk where you can literally tell your NPC sidekick specifically what to do or talk your way out of confrontations.
I'm imaging something like you and an NPC are sneaking up on a house and you tell them "you go around left and hide behind the picnic table to and provide cover fire, I'll go around the right. Don't start shooting until I do" or something to that effect, and then the NPC just does exactly that. They could have personalities that make them more prone to ignoring your commands etc. The possibilities are amazing.

When Vinny said this is just a modern Facade that really put into perspective to me how far we've come. These kinds of games that listen to your voice and try to respond used to be so terrible but this game looks incredible.

and yet it's banned from Steam. Lmao. That Steam ban of AI discourages good things from being made.
Of course opening the floodgates would introduce a lot of trash onto Steam as well, but does that really matter? If 1 out of 100 AI works are actually good then isn't it worth it?
This is definitely a show case for an innovative use of AI in video games. No replacement for actual written dialogue in a story driven game, but excellent for something like this. I watched Limes quote evanescence lyrics at one of the people in the game and the AI picked it up and responded they were "already sad enough" before slamming the door.

I'm beyond amazed on how good the voice recognition in this game.

honestly to me this kinda shows how perfect and in real time translation can start existing any day now
@@jeffboy4231 It is still impossible by merit of languages having many differences in grammar and vocabulary.
There's, for example, the question whether to translate the literal text (e.g. translating German's "Scheiße!" as "Shit!" because it literally is shit) or to translate the "vibes" (e.g. translating German's "Scheiße!" as "Fuck!" because both interjections are used in similar contexts, while "shit" is too mild).
Plus, some languages are so fundamentally different that translating them requires significant changes to the sentence that may miss the point of the original sentence.
Sayings are quite nonsensical in other languages as well. For example the Russian saying "Тряхнуть стариной" is literally "Shake the old days" (which is also how Google translates it), however it actually means something akin to "It's like the old days".
And finally... some languages literally do not have the words for some concepts. The only way around this in most cases requires awkward sentence structures, or in English's case, giving up and just using the other language's word. Schadenfreude and Kindergarten come to mind, both being words taken from German to describe things English doesn't have a word for.
TL;DR Due to languages being more than just reskins of each other, translations inherently result in information being lost. Thus, perfect translation cannot exist.

Yeah, I'm impressed in how the conversations went when trying to convince the NPCs to invite you inside their abodes. Alongside the fact that it can translate other languages like when Vinny was trying to speak japanese with one resident.

That's basically the sort of thing that AI excels most at (or sucks least at), it's like talking to somebody who has read and remembers every single thing ever posted on the internet.
This one generally isn't set to reference media, you can see in the responses it doesn't extrapolate with additional information from the universes Vinny mentioned (unless they are generic). For example if you said you were Link, it wouldn't respond by asking if you were travelling with the fairy Navi, instead it would make stuff up that is generically relevant to the subject of fantasy, heroes, and adventuring. They will only respond with specific names and stuff if they are first mentioned by the speaker

Its incredible regardless that its able to mimic a conversation so well and rven find references that people would actually use, it even formulates it's opinion, which most chat bots dont get to do.

One of the better executed examples of GPT AI being used in a game. As AIs do it can break (and break immersion) and it's probably easy to abuse once you know it's tricks (prompt engineering) but as it is, it's brilliant.

This is damn impressive. It picks up speech and translates it so well. The responses are great too, even it sometimes tries too hard to be moral. This is still an amazing concept and I hope it keeps getting updated. It was one of the best streams to catch live.
Don't know if anyone's checked the website on this game yet, but it does indeed use AI language models to interpret your speech and control NPCs behavior & understanding. When you buy the game, which I think was around $12-13, you get the game and it comes with 10,000 AI tokens. The AI model used by the game is not capable of working locally and once the tokens are out, you have to pay another $12-13 for more. I imagine in the future, they may allow you to connect a different premium model account which allows you to play endlessly as long as you have your own AI generative tokens, but you should know at the moment, it's kind of a subscription based thing due to the costs of generating the AI interactions server side.
So it's a coin model?

For more context, 10,000 ai tokens is supposed to get you 40-50 hours of gameplay, which sounds more than fair for 13$. But yeah i can see how in the future, other games like this could become gross and predatory

As long as AI stays on this "scale" -- meaning some indie is using it in creative interesting ways like this and it won't be widely adopted by the big corpos who'll just see it as another reason to fire even more people -- Well, then it's easy to get behind this, this seemed really funny and charming and does show the strengths of AI in video games.

I don’t know why I found it so damn funny, but when Vinny was talking about the “all inclusive golf trip” and all he could say was that it was located “somewhere” in that tone, I couldn’t help but laugh.

As someone who has learned a little bit of Japanese the fucking Japanese section made me laugh so hard. I definitely failed that try not to laugh challenge.
Just bought it and immediately got into the house by spinning a story of how I just chased a 30lb raccoon out of my shed and it ran into the man's backyard. When he was asking questions I said "Shh shhh... I think I just heard it come in the back door..." and he invited me in right away to help take care of it. Also I wore a fireman's hat and told a guy that I was sent by his boss to address the loose gecko in his kitchen, which somehow went super smoothly. I love the nonsense you can get away with lol.

I've grown to fall in love with games that use AI text in the way this game does. It has the potential to add an extra layer of randomness to an otherwise one-and-done game experience, and I like how all of the pedestrians have unique personalities and quirks in how they talk, which encourages the player to reconsider how they engage in conversation.
It reminds me of a game that came out last year (I say game, but it was more of a short tech demo) called Inworld Origins. It's a short cyberpunk experience where you're a detective investigating an accident, and you have to interview multiple characters to get more information. The catch with that game is that all of the characters were driven by AI, and responded entirely based on your input. It gave the player a lot of freedom to interact with the NPCs in any way they wanted (apart from anything NSFW, of course). Ross and Giwi played it last year on Giwi's stream, and they were able to trick one of the NPCs into having a full conversation about One Piece, talking about its favorite story arcs and characters. Even Ross and Giwi were caught off guard by how coherent the AI was throughout the whole thing, and it's what I remember most about that demo lol.

See, when AI is used as a tool to realize something creatively, and not completely replace the creator, you get fun stuff like this. It's by no means some masterpiece, but a good proof of concept.
I kind of wonder if we're going to get some kind of resurgence of those virtual pet games (Hey You Pikachu, Fin Fin, Seamen) with this technology. Seems like a no-brainer.

Another fun indie game I discovered, through Vinny.
This is exactly the sort of thing I always wanted from AI in gaming. Until this past year I thought we were still really far away from this being possible in games so I'm super excited that AI tech has improved so dramatically recently.
Bro this was such a weird fucking game to have in the background while doing other shit, i had absolutely no clue what the hell vinny was going on about 💀
This must be what it's like to be Kitboga convincing tech scammers to do what he wants in the most absurd way possible.
Cool proof of concept, but it makes you wonder if AI can hold up in a proper singleplayer story game, it works here because it's a very out of context setting and at best these NPCs know their neighbors but that's it, otherwise you can throw a lot of bullshit at them and get away with it.
Also because of the how the AI is implemented, requiring what is essentially a subscription and internet connection, a story driven AI game would be downright inferior to just a game with good writing.
Maybe their use-case is somewhere else, that's what the point of all this is I guess, to find out.

If you want a specific plot to play out, you make the specific plot play out. You don't give the prompt to an AI and hope it guesses the exact plot you are going for.
It has it's uses.
The fact that you can show up at someone's door dressed as a knight while carrying an AK, then start talking about Monty Python--- and get invited into their house

I know people are surprised by how good the AI is and recognition of voices, but if you didn't know, this is actually pretty common now with ChatGPT where you can even have fully voiced conversations with the AI. It's legit wild how far it's come in even a year.
So if someone starts talking to you randomly about Red Vox, they're DEFINITELY a vampire, got it.

There'a really only one thing making this sort of AI not work in games, the fact that you can convince the characters of anything and completely break the reality of the world, so I think the games that play into that are gong to have the most luck.
Vinny once again shows us that whenever he says "you can trust me" you can absolutely NOT trust him. Just like when he plays Among Us.
