Albany is the capital of the U.S. state of New York and the seat and largest city of Albany County. Albany is located on the west bank of the Hudson River approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of its confluence with the Mohawk River and approximately 135 miles (220 km) north of New York City.
Albany is known for its rich history, commerce, culture, architecture, and institutions of higher education. Albany constitutes the economic and cultural core of the Capital District of New York State, which comprises the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area, including the nearby cities and suburbs of Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs. With a 2013 Census-estimated population of 1.1 million the Capital District is the third-most populous metropolitan region in the state. As of the 2010 census, the population of Albany was 97,856.
The area that later became Albany was settled by Dutch colonists who, in 1614, built Fort Nassau for fur trading and, in 1624, built Fort Orange. In 1664, the English took over the Dutch settlements, renaming the city as Albany, in honor of the then Duke of Albany, the future James II of England and James VII of Scotland. The city was officially chartered in 1686 under English rule. It became the capital of New York in 1797 following formation of the United States. Albany is one of the oldest surviving settlements of the original British thirteen colonies, and is the longest continuously chartered city in the United States.

Thank you. I really enjoyed to travel Albany again. It's been almost 30 years since graduation SUNY Albany.

Graduated from SUNY Albany in 94 moved away as soon as I graduated. Upstate Ny, Vt, NH, beautiful, but Albany Co already was at 09% sales tax even in 94, and the stupid restrictive gun laws because of NYC was to much. I already owned pistols by the time I was starting college, but couldn’t have them in Ny. Lived through the blizzard of 93 🤓

Thirty years ago Albany was already on the decline and has gotten worse. Shootings and crime are out of control. Living off campus in the midtown campus area can be hazardous to your health.

Very cool tour.Albany is such a unique city.. small yet big quiet yet busy.... pound for pound has the most beautiful architecture and city scape than anywhere I’ve ever lived. It is just waiting to re- activate! High taxes a huge impediment... lots of poverty that appears to be isolated in many areas... feels almost by government policy-design. Has so so so much potential...if you want beautiful architecture, cool restaurants, bars, small town feel, great access to airport-train station, easy access to outdoor life and enough music theater culture to satisfy.... give it a chance. Of. Purse when Rona is over

I lived in and around Albany................twice. First time in the mid-1990's. Second time about 5 years later. In theory, I think The Capital District is a great place to live. I don't know about now, but it was relatively affordable, I found the people to be relatively friendly, it's full of history, and you're between 2 to 4 hours from NYC, Boston, Montreal, Burlington. The principle reason that I left was that the job market in upstate NY in general, is not particularly robust.
Unless you're self employed, (and you're used to earning $50,000 to $100,000/year), for the most part, you need to be a public school teacher, a cop/fire fighter, something in nanotechnology, physician, nurse, engineer, perhaps a CPA.
When I was there, there was not a Fortune 500 company headquartered within a 100 mile radius of Albany.

You're not seeing the real city, Albany has become a huge ghetto, it's a dump. Shootings almost every day, four killed in gang violence this year. These classic old buildings mean nothing now. So sad.
