Albany is not only one of the most historic cities in New York State but in the entire USA. Start by seeing the impressive Capitol building. Visit its centuries-old buildings such as the Schulyer Mansion or Cherry Hill House for a sense of what life was like in the area centuries ago.
Go to the New York State Museum for an overview of the entire state’s historical significance. View the Underground Railroad Education Center or Irish Heritage Museum to learn how other cultures influenced the history of Albany.
These impressive sites can take up a few hours of your time, but there are also plenty of equally worthwhile experiences to be had in Albany.
Take the time to visit the John Boyd Thatcher State Park or Washington Park for a natural escape. See a show at The Egg or the Palace Theater. Take the Alexander Hamilton Tour if you want to walk the path of one of the founding fathers.

I know its about Albany, but sister cities Troy and Schenectady are minutes away and offer a lot of great entertainment, activities, eateries, pubs, etc. Just sayin...its all Capital District.

I don’t know if I should go I live in westchester is it true that the Walmart there is biggest in the world or not
There are drive by shooting everywhere in this country, hell I even got shot at in middle of nowhere Fairbanks, AK. Every town has it's crime, no reason to be a pussy and not get out and see it. Albany is a lovely little city, and I am enjoying it immensely since I moved here.

I have lived in Albany for 20 years….no doubt like any US city(sad to say) there can be some violence…..can’t recall any recent shootings on lark street….many areas of Albany are outstanding… some not so much…. Lily white suburbs surround the city…. Suburbanites fear of violence prevents the city from living up to its potential…. It’s not that bad…. BEAUTIFUL architecture great restaurants theaters music parks train station airport healthcare etc…. No traffic… access to nature and mountains lakes skiing wtc It’s a pity apartheid lives on in American cities…. Makes it bad for everyone…. Would be great if we could all just get along
I'm in the lily white suburbs, my court/street has Russians, Japanese, French, local people who grew up there, African-Americans, and Indians... and its awesome. So....apartheid my butt.
