Thank you for watching. This blower was not used for a very long time. Now it won't start. Lets take a good look at it and find out whats wrong and then fix all the problems. We don't even know if its worth fixing yet. If you find this video helpful leave a comment or hopefully it helps you get further along on your repairs.
Definitely work fixing. I have the older red Craftsman model as Grayson mentioned his dad had, And as Grayson mentioned, this is very nostalgic for me because it was one of the last things my mother gave me as a gift before she passed away. I am right in the process of replacing the fuel lines after just repairing a Poulan chainsaw with the same rotted fuel lines. I was initially thrown because it's less complex than the chain saw carb and lines, so this really helped. I still have the vacuum attachments and mulching blades for mine and that dual function ability seems to be an extra reason to repair this type of blower/vac since the engine seemed to be in good shape. Mine really blows with high velocity, too.
Excellent thank you for sharing your experience.
The design of these older Poulan/Weedeater/Craftsman blowers are quite nostalgic for me despite their cheapness. My dad used to have the older version of this that had a different style carburetor & different choke and throttle setup, and although it was a pain to start, once it got started, it would get the job done.
me too very nostalgic for me
You made the right repair video for my problem I have had my Craftsman blower for years and it just now needs first repair...lines rotted and primer bulb cracked. Thank you so much 😊
thank you DennyB53
These blowers are excellent and came under many different brands. Not lightweight, but I like the way they are balanced. Definitely worth repairing, and I've worked on a lot of them.
great point
Absolutely amazing deal. I would %100 use it as a backup blower
It definitely has some power behind it.
I have one just like this. I have all the attachments to vacuum, so I’m going to give it a try. Thanks for the post.
No problem
Yes mine is brilliant as a vacuum as it minces up anything that gets sucked up and it can all go for compost or in the recycling and takes less room up.
Yes is was worth fixing. I have the same model and have been using it for about 20 years. I am just now having to replace the fuel lines and primer bulb. Your video was very helpful.
thank you Scott Arney, These blowers are very good, but just a bit awkward to use.
Best how to video on this type of blower. Thank you
You're welcome and thanks for the comment I appreciate it
I have the same model with the same problem. I will be doing the same as you did in a month or 2. Thanks for the lesson. I was wondering about the fuel lines!
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it and good luck.
Just seen this and enjoyed this video. These blowers were the last of the sears / roebuck generation. A keeper for sure and if it still has its original spark plug use a 3/4 deep standard 3/8th's ratchet. during the time these blowers were new the hi low screws changed over to splines so Keep the classics alive and WELL everyone and if you dont want em put em on markeplace. Always on markeplace 😎
thank you for that
you bet !
You made replacing that flap look easy
it's was edited but I had to do a couple of times before the "good take"
Good job. I definitely like the video.
thank you Luis Espinoza.
Imagine how the spider, that was living in the blower tube felt, when the hurricane hit him after the yrs of calm.
Lol.. I've got to remember to look for stuff living in the tube next time. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Definitely worth fixing it has a lot of use left and wont land in the landfill
Thank you hunter1953 for your comment. Yes its bulky but it works.
Thank you gave me things to look into
no problem
Yes it was worth it, because now I know how to change my fuel lines tomorrow!
that's good to know!
Dang, this one actually runs. Too bad you weren't around when I threw one out last year (green one, engine worn.) I would've given you the mulch tube and catch bag. Can't believe I wasted all that time re-doing the whole fuel system.
Thanks 999thenewman for the comment. I've done the same before. Redid the whole fuel system only to find it broken .
Had JUST rebuilt the fuel lines on a VERY similar model to this when I ran across this vid. Special edition==gray? Worth fixing? HECK YEAH!
I had the worst time with the stupid spring. 5 or 6 tries to get it right. The rest was easy even after sitting disassembled in a box for a year. The Zama C1Q W11D carb was easy to take apart and clean up. Lines were simple to run. Mine is all black like the exhaust cover on this one. 358.797180 Bag/suction I always thought stank due to the long/rigid stems on my leaves perhaps? Constant clogs when it was new. But the bulky blower is over 20+ years old and not scored up, or busted yet and runs like a beast without having to tune it.
They are actually built quite well. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
You got it running with the only cost being the fuel lines, so i would say yes it was worth doing
You are correct. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
I would have enjoyed fixing this blower myself. I think it is worth the fix even if you plan to sell it or give to a friend. A blower like this on the market is something many people who aren't financially endowed may be looking to buy.
completely agree with you
Definitely worth fixing as it seems to be a low hour machine.👍
Than you Alan Marshall for the comment. Yes I believe you're right.
I figured that the downward fan was an asset when switching from right hand to left, and vice versa. Most tools are designed for right handed people
That's a great point. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Good job h.g :)
Thank you Dora Escalante for the comment.
Bought the same 1 at garage sale for 25$ ..works great
thank you Ihatepickingout for vouching for them.
I like that style blower , yes a little harder to work on but they last a long time, make sure to inform your viewers that it is a good idea to clean out the fuel tank of all the old oil and gas before reassembly, also i would have changed out the fuel filter
Yes you're absolutely right, when I take a second look at it, I'll change it out.
All worth fixing!
thank you Terry Ramby
Still has practical use, you can use it as a gift to some else
Thank you Uni Sol for the comment. Now that's a good idea.
Most surely worth fixing
I believe you are right
It is worth it! I have one just like it and am emotional attached to it since I have owend it for over 25 years. I have the same issue, now I will attempt to fix it using these procedures. My only question is you could have explained where you bought the fuel lines.
Yes from Amazon, 3/16" outside diameter
Local repair shop keeps it in stock. Selling by the foot. $3.17 for the two hoses.
Yes it was good to fix it
thank you Joel Pritchard.
i have one just like that, was wondering how to go about fixing it,thanx
You're welcome and thank you for the comment I appreciate it
Yes worth fixing. I have a nearly identical model that starts but stalls when trying to go from full choke to run. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for the comment. Try adjusting the carb first. If that doesn't work replace the carb.
Yes, it now runs but it was a goofy design. Stihl didn't keep it long. Good fix! GBWYou!
thanks and you're right about that.
I had to use silicone spray on line to be able to pull line through
that works too.
Yes its good
Thank you Fred Tew for the comment I appreciate it
Just repaired a similar one that had been sitting in a decrepit shed for 15+ years. Was filthy, filled with straw and seeds. While taking it apart a mouse jumped out. Cleaned out the dead mice and carb and it runs fine, but the 7 step startup procedure is kind of a pain...
yes it's a pain but very required.
yes it is
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Great video! What size was that small fuel line?
thanks 3/16"
Yes, it was worth fixing. It is now usable even though it has some annoying characteristics.
Thank you Nelson for the comment. Yes you're right it's worth fixing.
History of Craftsman leaf blowers.
First Generation: Cheap, knockoffs of Weed Eater blowers.
Second Generation: "Every blower shall look/work like STIHL!"
Was it worth fixing? I would have to say yes for a couple of reasons. Number one when you had the muffler removed you can see the piston and ring in great condition as well as the walls, very minimal use on that engine, therefore it has lots of life and use left. Secondly ,aside from some time spent ,it cost you literally a dollar or 2 in fuel lines to fix. A good score wouldn't you say? Love your vids keep em coming!!
I totally agree with you on that
I just took one of those apart . I have arthritis in my hands so it’s not pleasant working on it it had mouse nest in it and fuel lines need to be replaced
The mouse nest would explain your problems. did you getting running again?
I did exactly what you did to the same blower that I just got from my neighbor. But when I switch it from slow speed to high speed it shuts off. I basically have to run it in slow speed. Is there anything I did wrong or didn’t do that I should do to get it to run correctly?
Thank you Orlando Castillo for the comment I appreciate it. You might have to adjust the carb. Try turning the carb adjustment screw closer to the engine counterclockwise about half a turn.
Always take out the spark plug for safety number one thing to do
thats a good tip
My grandpa has one of those too but it seems to have low power
Thanks yo boi for the comment. It might just need a carb adjustment to bring it back to life.
yo boi The cylinder head is loose.
I got the poulan WT200 LE , same thing as the craftsman. What is the acceptable compression pressure? Getting around 50-60 psi. Same issue fuel line rotted out, check the carb & it looks OK, spray fuel directly to the carb , still won't fire up. Check the spark , very weak hardly can see any light in the tester. Any help or suggestions. Thanks for the video it is very informative and detail.
90 would be good, and lower, would show extreme wear , or s stuck piston ring.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE OK 👍 Thank You!
no problem.
Where can i find parts to replace the fuel lines and primer bulb?
I order them from Amazon.
Most any local hardware store. Ours has an assortment of primer bulbs and fuel lines. Take the old primer bulb and fuel lines to the store and they should be able to help you match them
Was having problems with mine and it turned out the fuel lines were rotted. Followed the video and it was a great step by step. However, the only time it will run, and only for up to 5 seconds is with the choke off. After about 5 seconds it dies. Any ideas? Tried spraying carb cleaner and also starting fluid into the czars. Still only get 5 seconds.
Sure. Sounds like you'll need to adjust the carb or replace the carb
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE since it won’t stay running, do you know which screw, left or right, needs to be adjusted and in which direction?
@@hrbb1233 turn the screw closer to air filter marked h on the black plastic about half a turn counterclockwise.
I just pulled the same blower apart that I inherited last year. I discovered that the gas line was rotted just like yours. Do you have Amazon links to the same replacement lines that you purchased? Thanks in advance for your assistance. I will keep looking in the mean time.
This platform doesn't like links. Search for tygon fuel line 3/32" ID and 3/16" OD
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Thank you for the speedy response. That is exactly what I just ordered.
No problem
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Another question - How much of the return line should be inside of the fuel tank???
@@toddheynI usually put about .5" minimal
Probably needed the cylinder head tightened while you had it apart. These blowers tend to vibrate themselves into an automatically dismantled state.
Thank you AudioGardenSlave for the comment. I have heard of that happening before. I should have done that.
I have a snapper version
does it work well? have you ever had problems with it?
What leaf blower would u recommend to buy for about 200
Easy bg45 stihl
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE ok thanks
@@AidanRyan458 no problem
Echo it costs a little more but well worth it
I have a craftman blower just like that I changed the coil on it and I still have no spark. Do you have any ideal what it might be?
interesting, was the coil new or used? Have you tried replacing the spark plug too?
Do you know off hand the fuel line diameters?
the fuel line should be 3/16"
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE what about the smaller line? Same size OD and ID?
I have same blower, and I did exactly what you did and after 5 months later it only runs by moving chock back and forth, any suggestions to fix. Thank you!
is the Fuel also 5 months old? have you tried dumping the Fuel and mixing a fresh batch? If the Fuel is okay, you need to replace the Carb then.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE new fuel, thanks will replace carb
@@greggedwards2296 no problem.
What's the mandatory adjustment for the carb
Do you mean a baseline? Probably about 2 turns out and then adjust from there.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE thanks
@@nateborst7999 no problem
It's an rebranded Poulan blower... or the Poulan is a rebranded Craftsman? Where does Troybuilt and ten other similar companies come into this?
Yes they can get confusing as to which came first. They are all basically the same so they all fix about the same way.
Always use bailing wire, you don't have to disassemble the blower.
thanks for the comment I appreciate it
You forgot to put the gromet for the pull cord in place.
you are correct
check the exhaust bearings
every time I send my stuff to get fixed I end up having to pay to get new ones. every time!!!!!
I will. Thank you
😂
Are you the same person as home garage?
Yes I am. I started this channel as a supplement to my other channel. Thanks for asking.
Save it it is a Echo
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
For the sake of a few cents worth of fuel line yes it's worth fixing !
Yes it's a pain but I would replace them too
It's a easyer way to replace the fuel lines, that's too much work that way.
thanks for the comment I appreciate it
They are not hard to work on, but I don't like that one
You're absolutely correct
I am not really a fan of Craftsman. They just have a quality issue and they won’t last you very long if you don’t know what your doing
craftsman have definitely changed a lot in the last few decades.
I think craftsman and poulan are made by husqvarna all the parts seem to be interchangeable so not a bad brand really
No it complicated to work on. You have to take apart too much of machine to get to the running parts. If it free maybe.
yes it was more complicated than it needed to be.
Not a fan
they are definitely something to get used to
That's the worst type of junk equipment,a waste of video and time, and I hate that color
thanks for the comment
