    23:20 'entrench is amazing at allowing us to get to 10 block with 2 energy even if we only draw one block' Soo he's evaluating it as amazing because it's as good as basic defend. I'm not saying the card is bad but his explanation is beyond scuffed.

    • @cookiedragon8234
      @cookiedragon8234 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you, was about to comment this. Next he'll say double tap is good because it allows you to deal twelve damage even if you only draw one strike. He just doesn't understand at all the function of the card lol

    • @Ghostneedle1
      @Ghostneedle1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cookiedragon8234 It genuinely feels like an anomaly how he's so bad at this game most of the time and after so many hours since he's obviously a smart egg.

    • @cookiedragon8234
      @cookiedragon8234 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Ghostneedle1 I just think he fundamentally doesn't understand the deck-building process in this game. When evaluating cards, he rarely looks at every necessary factor (upcoming boss, nodes down the path, nearest shop, etc.) to consider and instead just takes or skips based on his gut, which clearly doesn't know what it's doing, or conjures an incorrect reason like he does with entrench. He either tries to force an archetype, tries to force four archetypes simultaneously, undervalues a deck-defining component of his kit, overvalues a different component of his kit, or skips so many decent cards that he's practically doing the starter deck challenge. To win he really needs to change his entire thought process and slow down. Heck, even little things like automatically skipping any event with a potential downside (lose HP gain gold, take apparitions which are high-key OP in lower ascensions, etc.) screw him over in the end.

    • @theWebWizrd
      @theWebWizrd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are not understanding his explanation. He said that he believes it is good because realistically, he thinks it'll never be worse than a defend, while at the same time it has the potential to be much better than one.

    • @cookiedragon8234
      @cookiedragon8234 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Girya is so great, especially as the Ironclad where there are a lot of strength multiplying options. Not sure how it's possible to undervalue it

    • @_arman_
      @_arman_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Depends on the build and cards. 3 Strength is also literally 1 turn of an upgraded demon form. A few strength isn't always worth skipping multiple card upgrades.

    • @Xeroxias
      @Xeroxias 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      With Limit Break, it's undeniably worth it to start with some Strength. Otherwise, it's a little more up for debate - Strength is good for the Ironclad, but losing three upgrades is rough.

    • @MehYam2112
      @MehYam2112 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One way to do the math on Girya is to see it as an upgrade for all attacks. If you have three attacks, a maxed Girya might be a wash vs three upgraded cards. If you have more than three (usually the case), Girya scales up in value.

  • @CrymsynMoon
    @CrymsynMoon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If Sever Soul was Fiend Fire . . . let me finish that for you., . . .it would be a completely different card. There you go. Yes they both exhaust, but their main uses are different. Fiend Fire is meant to be used as a nuke, sacrificing cards to execute an enemy. Sever Soul is meant for heavy hitting early on (having some actual damage probably would have helped that flaming lagavulin) and to cleanse a deck full of Wounds or curses.
    So you love Uppercut to death, but somehow detest Clothesline. You've learned on the Silent of strong weakness is. Its incredibly good on the other classes too, they just don't have as many good sources of it. Clothesline is one of the good sources for the Ironclad. And it, unlike Uppercut, doesn't require an upgrade to be useful.
    Pommel Strike is good. Its card draw, and card draw is good. Therefore Pommel Strike is good.
    Ok, so the main reason Perfected Strike sucks is that it relies on filling your deck with 'strike' cards. While most of those cards are good in their own right, you need to really load your deck with them in order to make Perfected Strike really good. But then you have the issue of drawing that one super buffed card in a remarkably thick deck. And cards that completely rely on the luck of finding specific cards are basiclly a gamble as to wether they're trash or any good. *cough Claw cough*
    Demon Form fits well in defensive decks. The card needs you to sit around long enough to build up good strength, and defensive decks need some sort of scaling or build up to do something other than just survive. Its a perfect fit.
    "If we had taken a Cleave just for this one fight" That's basically AoE cards in a nutshell. You take them expressly so the multi enemy horde fights don't wreck you.

  • @ElPared
    @ElPared 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    33:05 yes, it's painful because you killed the enemy that makes you vulnerable when it dies instead of killing the enemy that makes you frail and does more damage first.

    Way too many win condition cards. Typically win condition cards have either 1) costly energy requirements 2) weak on their own, but exponentially better with synergy 3) gradually gain in strength over the course of a fight. Or any combination of these things. As such, it’s best to limit the number of win condition cards in your deck, especially early on. Ironclad is much more capable of taking greedy cards early on, since he’s a lot more survivable in the early game with his starter relic, high quality common cards available, and relatively decent starter deck. So it isn’t necessarily a bad idea to get greedy if you are offered high-power-level, rare cards. But it’s also good to strike a balance.
    And the run was definitely straddling archetypes, but again, that isn’t always a bad thing. If you build towards a barricade deck but don’t have any body slams, it can be helpful to pick up a demon form; which, despite not traditionally fitting in the barricade archetype, can synergize with barricade as a means to tank up while you wait for demon form to scale up.

    I played StS before the defect was added and watched this series last year, I wasn't particularly good but I played enough to unlock all the red/green cards then I forgot about it until this popped up in my feed and I thought I really gotta play some StS again. My point here is I was never great or experienced and I have had a looong gap since I last played. I've played perhaps 8-10 games and beaten the 3rd boss perhaps 5 times, once per character and another 2 times with the defect since I have not unlocked its stuff. So what I just don't understand is how NL has 380 episodes of this series and seems to be winning less often than me. Why does he keep ignoring good cards? Why does he keep trying to force builds based off of one card he likes? I understand commenting while playing is distracting too, but to this extent? It's still fun listening to NL ramble, of course, or I wouldn't watch this at all, but I wish he'd pay a bit more attention to the game.
