      Yeah that peer pressure of the Apple logo is strong on phones and laptops. I really think if you took that away and just let people choose on a device’s own merits we’d see a different landscape in the coffee shop and office.

    Reason why i have decided to buy Book 2 360 and not m2 Air (This is the reason Yt suggested this video)-
    1. I can download any software as windows have vast Ecosystem of cracked softwares available on the internet.
    2. 2 in 1 ( Touch ) can be used as semi Tablet too.
    3. Egregious and sleek design.
    4. Old Samsung user having the phone and other devices of the same brand.
    5. 65W charger which I can use to charge my phone too.
    6. Being a graphic designer I can explore the more design by using the S pen 🖊

    A valid point u left is that, galaxy book 2 360 is 2 in 1 with touch screen !!!! Apple macs dont have touch screen or 2 in 1. Galaxy book 2 360 is much better than the mac air considering the price also. And galaxy 2 360 is 1.16 kg whereas Mac air m2 is 1.22 kg (just another little detail). The front camera could have been better on the galaxy 2 360, but it is ok for any profession.

      Let me see what I can do as I don’t have the devices together in the studio anymore but…. I DID do full reviews on both of them so if you scroll back through my videos, you’ll find both reviews. What I can tell you is the Asus felt more solid, more premium and the screen was equally as stunning as the Samsung. It’s also better suited to more power type uses because it’s the better processor etc. if you need something for lightweight, day to day browsing etc. both would be fine, but if you need something powerful for pushing video editing, photo editing etc. I’d go Asus all day long….👍

    Hi Mike. I know it's been months after you've published this but your review was quite helpful. I was looking something in windows/linux waters, I saw a nice deal today and I bought one, waiting for the shipment.(512gb SSD, 16gb i7) Yet, I was also expecting you would tell also some tablet-like features, s pen capabilities or such stuff... Because for me, as also an Ipad pro user, I'm expecting that s-pen would free me carrying ipad around. I have my one-note notebooks in windows and Ipad and I really love taking notes... but... just it's painful to switch between devices to do that. Anyway, just saying...
    By the way, after 6-7 months, did your opinion change?

    I'm struggling to decide on a 2-in-1 for my 18 yr old off to med school here in the UK...needs to be Windows, and touch screen and stylus to annotate stuff.
    i thought i was going Samsung x360...but then started reading about thermals and fan noise on the 13...maybe 15 would be better with 2 fans? But 15 gonna be too big to carry around all day to classes? Then i come across the Lonovo 9i...but as you say their specs and different configs (that seem to go in and out of stock and change price) are sooo confusing (does my son need a intel i7 or would i5 with 16gb Ram be fine)....then i hear about the 7i....And then the HP Envy 360 or Spectre....the Envy looks cheap...the Spectre expensive? Oh - and then there are the MS Surface range?!! Which way would you jump Mike? Appreciate any insights you can share!

      Hey Rahul, thanks for watching and joining the convo. The Samsung is a whole lot of power in those specs with a great screen. If windows is what you need I think it could do the job. My only thought is that you might do better with an H series processor for the most power (Dell XPS for example) and a taller screen ratio. Those are the 2 negatives for you I think.

      Alot of it depends on whether you use an iPhone or Android. If Android, I'd go Samsung all the way. If iPhone, think about what apps you use and whether they'll play nice on windows. The 360 is a great laptop, super light and the screen is amazing! Given the deals right now and the cost savings, I'd save the money vs. The air and go for it.

    Is the ssd they’re using slower? Or just smaller? You don’t measure memory by speed

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s kinda technical. It’s not that the SSD is slower, but I’m the old model they used 2x128gb modules which meant it could write and read to both simultaneously. Now it’s 1x256gb module so it can only read / write to one which although is the same speed, is bottlenecked by the throughout resulting in slower performance.

  • @MarkPhippard
    @MarkPhippard ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I am going to offer up some critique here but I love your videos and do not think anything you said in this video was inaccurate. I just do not see the point in comparing the Apple Silicon devices with x86 anymore. You have to try to hard to pretend it is a comparison when it really isn't. Apple has changed what a laptop can be. If my MacBook Air is fully charged I could go to work and not even bring my charger. With my Windows laptop (currently a Surface) I have anxiety if I go into a long meeting without my charger with me. That is not even to mention the heat and the fans. Then there are little things. Open the lid on MacBook and it is instantly on. Someone using a Windows laptop probably does not consider this a problem ... what is 3-4 seconds? But it just changes how you use the device and the overall experience.
    There are a ton of valid reasons people need or just want to have a Windows or Linux laptop. Reviewing and comparing the x86 laptops to each other is totally valid. There are lot of people that only have $600 to spend on a laptop ... letting them know there are great options available to them is totally valid.
    But let's not pretend that comparing these laptops to a MacBook Air is just a toss up with pros and cons. You are either in the market for the Apple or you are not. The Geekbench type benchmarks are all pointless. Even if the x86 laptops are faster, they are not in the real world, but even if they were you still have the terrible real world battery life, heat and fan noise. Comparing these devices by these benchmarks does not tell a real story.
    Keep putting out your great content.

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate the thoughts Mark but search trends show a lot of folks are asking this question. As much as the air has strengths, touchscreen, folding form factors etc. Are also important to many users so it can be a little more of a pro and con on both sides. That said, 100% with you on leaving the house without a charger and without anxiety with a MacBook air! I totally have the same issue but surprisingly, my MBP 14 sometimes catches me out. Wish they did an air in a slightly larger screen 😱

    • @MarkPhippard
      @MarkPhippard ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikedropstech maybe you should say more about the real differences in usage then? I am not sure what I am even trying to communicate other than whenever I see a comparison of MacBook Air and x86 laptops anywhere I do not think any of the reviews do a great job at addressing the real differences. After all, you could also compare the Samsung to an iPad Air which is $599 and will compete very well against it in Geekbench. Kill it in Battery life etc. If users just want a web browser and office apps it is a valid comparison. But a tablet and a laptop are ultimately different devices even if you some users could reasonably compare them. I am just saying that I think the Apple Laptops are almost a different class of device than x86 because using them has changed the game so much. Does not mean there are not cases where I still want/need a Windows laptop but if I do, then I am not comparing it against MBA.

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair points. It sure seems as though they’re in a different class based on battery and heat.

    • @sulogno
      @sulogno ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkPhippard why would the Samsung be compared to the iPad? There x 360 is not a tablet, however, a laptop which you could use as a tablet as a plus..Apple would probably come out with the same in the days to come.. secondly, search trend shows that people are demanding a comparison, hence this comparison has been put out.. the M2 MacBook Air is certainly not the best offering by apple.. the M2 pro is not even selling..in2022 you release the air with just 8 Gb and 256gb.. other than the battery it’s a pretty average machine.. even the ssd is slower.. it’s an absolute valid comparison..and fyi, I come from a Mac ecosystem

    • @MarkPhippard
      @MarkPhippard ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sulogno this was 2 months ago but I brought up the iPad simply because of price. If it is just about the price tag and the benchmarks then the iPad would compare very well to many of these laptops and it can do the same basic tasks of web, email and light productivity apps. Anyway, I was not suggesting it should be compared against the iPad ... I am more saying that when comparing it against the MacBook Air I do not think most reviews adequately explain how the battery life and performance of the MBA puts it in a different category. I work on a MBA and Surface. They really are not that comparable. If you need Windows (or Linux) then many of these laptops are a good choice but the MBA has changed what a laptop can be.

      If you can wait a week or two Microsoft has a Surface event coming up. A new Surface Laptop is probably coming so would be good to compare it to your other options. If Mac is your thing, I’d really find a way to get the M2. The new design etc. creates a really well rounded, modern device that won’t age for years.

The Mac is definitely a higher build quality, but the new Surface Laptop 5 fixes that for you and gives you a solid windows alternative (I have a comparison of those 2 live also). Ah, got it. Yeah so they did something different here where they unified the system memory (the 8gb) and embedded it into the system chip which is totally different to windows where it sits on the motherboard and then connects via essentially a multi lane highway. It’s so much faster it’s ridiculous. Right now, until windows completely change the way they do a few things Apple is just laughing all the way to the bank, but there’s nothing close to the overall build quality and technical quality for around $1200 that I can see.

      I am at a loss as to why there are so many raving reviews on it, for me and what I use it for - its horrific compared to a Windows Machine - just constantly feel like working around everything, buying an app to do basic stuff, restarting it cause the 'beachball', runs out of memory, many extensions not work that great, and inefficient.
      Like gone back to 2005.
      People need to talk 'useage' and not all the time on speed. If you world is around Office 365 / Microsoft and other products that are not even produced for Apple [alot of engineering], then its pretty useless. Which are my findings.
