The most common volleyball passing mistake - Tip of the Week #49

  • Where do you contact the ball when you pass? Are you hitting that sweet spot that will help you get that perfect pass? There is a lot of advice out there on how to pass a volleyball but this is definitely the one mistake you want to avoid when teaching players this skill.
    COVID-19 Warning - This video was shot before the coronavirus pandemic became a part of everyone's life. Don't actually try this tip with other people until the conditions to do so are safe again where you are. I hope we'll all be back on court soon.

    One way to prevent the mistake, is to ask the players to lift the heel off the floor. When that happens, it force the body on the front part of the feet and therefore drive the shoulder forward. When the body weight is on the heel, the shoulders would go upward instead of forward. Players should lift up the heels even when they practice passing to themselves.

    • @JumpVolleyball
      @JumpVolleyball  4 ปีที่แล้ว +71

      Great tip there. Let's just make it even simpler and ask players to always be on the front of their feet. When do you want them on their heels anyways ;-)

    Two things I see wrong. In the demo, her wrong lead foot moves forward, meaning her shoulders are not square to her target. Two, by taking a large step while passing she is immediately off balance. She should beat the ball to the position and her her feet should be slightly wider than shoulder width. Quiet body, quiet head.

      back up!!! like HUSTLE!!! don't remove your eyes from that ball and make sure that you plant your feet as quickly as possible. here's a drill that I learned to get a ball that's coming too fast but it still could be in
      (includes a server)
      1. Make sure the server is ready
      2. The server will serve
      3. Make sure you are in left-back, middle or right because it's a deep ball
      4. Keep your eyes on the ball
      5. Here's where it gets confusing, do NOT back peddle, like backwards run, you wanna keep your head and eyes focused at the ball but your body is running back to where you could possibly pass the ball
      6. Plant your feet immediately and then pass

    • @queenfelder386
      @queenfelder386 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Mark my words.... H U S T L E coaches will go for a player that will hustle and run and not give up over a player that can hit the ball correctly but will let the ball drop if it doesn't come straight to them. And don't have a bad attitude i have a teammate (gonna call her K) K is the best she improved in only two weeks but every time someone made a mistake she would get mad and fuss at my teammates and I when coach would try to talk to her she would ignore the coach and she was benched because she didn't have a good attitude. Be someone coachable listen when the coach tries to help you instead of getting down over you mistake or getting mad at the coach for correcting you just try to fix the mistake they will notice you trying and it will definitely make them want you on their team. And don't stress over not having experience just let the instructor know and they'll understand (that's where you hustling will come in hand) and have fun volleyball is, in my opinion, a fun teaching experience.

    Uhhhhhhhhhhhh bruh both technique are useful ………. When the ball is going short you can’t really pass forward because then the ball will end on the other side ….. there is no better form, you just need to know when to use which technique. I think you need to explain things further and stop giving false information. I use both I don’t think one is superior than the other. AND passing to yourself is a useful practice because 1. Not everyone have a net or a partner to practice with 2. Passing straight to yourself helps you with ball and arm contact.
