Eddie, unreal images of Doo Lough with the mist 👍 Walking into the big coum is frightening and exhilarating all at once😊 Really cool views of The Ramp👍 Loved the views from the summit with the beaches far below. The midges🦟🦟!! Well worth going back to capture the experience of one of the coolest mountains in Ireland👍
It really is fantastic mountain alright Gerry. The hike up is great and like you say when the coum starts looming over you, it's very impressive. The midges down below were nothing compared to the guys up top, I think they were like flying ants or something, I'd rather not encounter them again tbh, the wind kept them at by half the time , but the other half,,,, no thanks... Unreal 360 views up top on a day like this alright, the views down to the coast are always great and mountains in the other direction 😁 Definitely one of the best... 😎
Fantastic footage Eddie - such wonderful visibility of the surrounding mountain ranges, lakes and coastal views! You struck gold with the weather - wonderful that it worked out for you! 😊
Thanks Miriam, i'll say it quietly, but it was maybe even.... too hot, 🤫 And yea, lucked out with the weather alright, a few images at the end show what the following day was like, so delighted really to get the day we had.. It's a pretty spectacular area alright, that i hope to visit a lot more... thanks. 👍
Stunning drone shots, some of your best yet I think. Your perseverance is much appreciated Ed. The midges must have been sightseeing over from Scotland.
Thanks Robert, its great to get the weather for the drone, its rare enough it happens, but it does make it all look a bit more spectacular. The views the whole day were pretty amazing tbh.. 😎 There was a breeze every now and again up top, it just seemed to be when I started talking it would die down and they're reappear,, little b***ards 🪰
Thanks Paddy, yea the small midges down low were one thing, but the guys up on the peak were like flying ants size or something, just horrible when they started landing. The breeze used to come and go, just whenever I started talking the wind decided to die down.. If I'd been there just for photos I'd have been gone after an hour,, thankfully the hike took considerably longer :)
I will be in Ireland for work next month. Cannot wait. I’m coming from Greece. Staying permanently. I’m not a hiker at all but love watching these. Nice one.
Thanks so much Christos, glad you found the channel and that you’re enjoying the videos. Best of luck with the move 👍. I wasn’t a hiker myself up until to about 3 years ago, so you never know 😉🥾⛰️
The van must be so nice to have being able to get to these places the night before. I dunno how you managed to get out in fine weather but fair play. You got some seriously sexy views, cheers for taking us along 🙌🍀
So far so good anyway. Yea, getting there the night before I’m finding in not as wrecked after the day. Tired from the hike, but not from the driving and that’s very noticeable already. Some days driving total was 4-5 hours and it makes a long day of it. Haunted with the weather, 2 weekends in a row, although I think I’ve used my annual allowance now. It’s some spot alright with the views. 👍
Hi From Gerry. Brother and I did Mweel Rea yesterday, up br the ramp, sun shining all day, not a midge in sight. Very Very impressive mountains compared to Dublin/Wicklow. We had a great day. Will watch your latest video.
That sounds great Gerry, well worth the trip over so. It’s a stunning hike alright and the weather at the moment is fantastic. 😎 A pity you didn’t get the midges, would have been extra special then 😂
I hiked it once before but the weather was miserable for filming, it’s on my hit list to make a sunrise video in the future! I can appreciate your skills with the shots taken..especially the opening shots flying over the mist! There is no better feeling than experiencing a day like that.. then getting home & reliving it on the computer knowing that you struck gold. I’m glad to have found your channel. Keep up the high standard! 🫡
I've been lucky , twice up Mweelrea and both times have been clear, altho the first time was fairly windy, but still grand. And yea, you know yourself, you take so much footage on the day, you're never really sure, you might have an idea, but never sure, and then to see a few shots worked out ok is pretty great alright. and that's just the drone, you should see the amount of "talking" that gets cut.. 🤣🤣🤣
Great video and photos Eddie. What a fantastic day we got to be on Mweelrea mountain. Our first time there . Lovely to meet you on the summit . Those midgets were a nightmare 😅
Thank you very much 😉 . There was no amount of cgi was going to make me look, not wrecked 🤣 . Was lovely to meet ye also and I think we lucked out with the weather, the day after was pretty awful looking... and the midges, I still get the creeps thinking about them up there....
thanks Aida, they were pretty special alright, the guys up top were a lot bigger that the small ones down by the water, whatever was keeping them going up there.
Thanks Carol, there’s no shortage of spectacular scenery in Colorado, I presume ye have slight bigger animals to take into consideration when outdoors 🐻 🦁 glad you’re enjoying the videos. 😁
@@eddieforde I definitely think about advantages of hiking in Ireland over Colorado. I was in SW Ireland this spring for the first time and did some hiking - just awesome - just had to work about wild goats and bogs. Here we have bears and rattlesnakes and some trails mountain bikers coming up behind you, but all is grand.
Yes, we have it easy in relation to wildlife in the outdoors here alright. Would like to see a bear in the wild at some stage. Glad you had an enjoyable time when you were over here 👍
Thanks for the comments but could not be happier that we missed the midges. Great potential there for a couple of exciting, off piste hikes over some of those tops and back down to doo lough. Enjoy your hiking.
Yea definitely Gerry, those two girls I mentioned took quite the route up and would have got a few of those tops done, not their first time either by the sounds of it. . Like you say, loads of options and plenty of time to revisit in the future, happy hiking 👍
It was great to get the weather alright. In the images at the end you can see what the following day was like, on my way home, It definitely was not a day for heading up there. The next time I think I'll head up the Silver Strand way, just for a change... thanks,👍
Wow stunning video. We had a heatwave last week 28 to 30 deg. it all ended up last monday in a very bad thunderstorm and a month of rain in 20 hours. 😊❤
Won't be long Pia before we're remembering the high temperatures and wishing they were back as we head into the winter.. 🥶 . that sounds damp alright, thankfully, we avoided any of the heavy rain... for once ☔️
‘Tis fairly brutal in Dingle today anyway, sideways rain, low clouds, normal service has resumed by the look of it. Although, same as yourself, supposed to pick up here next week. 🤞
When i was moving they were bearable, but when I stopped for the drone that time in the valley it was a bit rough alright, as there was no breeze at all. When the breeze did pick up tho, it was glorious.. 👍 At least midges means it's not raining, (trying to put positive spin on them) 🤣 thanks again Pat...
Hi Eddie - wow, you truly are gifted with a camera. Absolutely magical! Quick question about the midgies (i live in the u.s.), do you ever use a bug repellent (not suggesting you should) ... just wondering? Thank you for sharing a piece of magical Ireland; the most stunning, wonderful and friendly place on this planet!
Hi Kris, thank you, very kind to say that. About the midges, more often than not we don’t need repellent, the wind usually takes care of them. Every now and again you’d get caught out, and then remember the bug spray has been left at home, I’d nearly always have a buff so rarely are they a big problem , for me at least. 👍
'twas an unreal day Dave, that's why I said it was almost too hot. was sweating from the get go for this one,,, but it was fantastic.. it really was... 😁
Thanks Andrew. 2026 won't be long coming around and something to look forward to. It's is a great way up alright, some parts are tough enough going with very varied ground. I should have mentioned it in the video, the other main way up is from the Silver Strand Side, I met a lot of folks that came up that way, tbh, people came up all sides, but I believe they are two "main" routes.
@@eddieforde cheers thanks for the info I have been walking in Ireland before many years ago in the Reeks but I am 60 years old in 2026 and fancied going back a nice change from Wales and Scotland where I do my walking all the best Andy

Great footage. You covered the route well. I’ve yet to chalk this one off. The “dreaded” ramp doesn’t look too bad at all. What sort of width was it at its most narrow point? Thanks for the footage 👍
Hi, lovely video, great shots of the mountain. Liked that track you went up. Do you have any info on the road you parked on. Will try and go up from the same place. You were blessed with such a gorgeous day, probably won't see another like it this year. Take care, Gerry Baxter.
i think the last time i went with the 2 lads was around 6.5 hours, and they were waiting for me a good bit. This time between the vlogging , the drone , the photography and the chronic lack of fitness, it took around 9 or 10 hours. And thats taking into account all the getting ready for the above.. It's the reason i dont give times in the videos as its not a true representation of the hike, time wise.... If you were just going for the pure hike with the usual stops etc. it would be considerably shorter. Thanks again 😉 Ed
