    So we just got our jeep and it was SO dusty things started to jam like the key tumbler. This video helped me so much man thank you. I popped it like you say in the video, no need to drop any panels. Then I drenched the thing in lubricant and worked the mechanism a few times, let it sit, worked it a little more and it’s back to normal now, easy like new. Lucky I had just got home when it happened. Thanks for the video

    You can get the key to turn. Put the key in the ignition and then tap the key a few times with a rubber mallet. Then turn the key. It will work fine for a few days.

      Agreed. Exactly how I was rolling with my 2004 Dodge Dakota Truck. Got a rubber mallet in the cab, but was afraid to turn the bruised ignition key all the way back to the off position. Was just turning the key back somewhere between off and when all the accessories came blaring back on, especially as I roll up into a Gas Station. Finally came home from AutoZone with a new Cylinder Lock and two new keys. As soon as I finish up my senior citizen year at TH-cam University, I'm going outside with with my toolkit and fix this shlit once & for all.

    Thanks for a great video! I tried for about an hour to get the old cylinder out. Eventually took to cover off. Still could not get out until I did what you said and also turned the key to on position. Came right out. One other note: I think you need the key in on position in order to get the new cylinder in as well. Thanks again!

    Hi! Beautiful clear concise video My Man! I noticed about 30% of the other TH-cam Unversity Ignition Experts here, such as yourself, are saying to pull, at least, the *negative* *cable* end off the *battery* as I start the new cylinder key repair/swap. I plan to do what you did on my 2004 *Dodge* *Dakota* Truck (there's a lot of similarities there with my vehicle and yours) and didn't want to upset/confuse any *anti-theft* crap on my truck. I do have a little *fob* *thingy* that locks or unlocks the doors (when the battery is fresh) but I don't think it'll give me any problems swapping out my 2004 Dodge Truck Key with the new Cylinder and Key kit from Autozone. Any battery thoughts?

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh yeah disconnect battery is always a good idea, unless your trying to start it with out the key cylinder in , which you may need the key if chipped, and equipped with anti- theft security. Thanks for watching

    Thank you! Straight to the point!
    My 2002 TJ still has the original key (with transponder/chip).
    Will the new cylinder from autozone work just fine? Or do i need to install the transponder in the new key?

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know much about the key and cylinder that comes with the transponder chip. if it’s oem anti theft related that may possibly be dealer only item but not totally sure! Have you come up with any solutions yet! Good luck and thanks for watching 🍻

    I have almost the same problem, how come my steering wheel will not lock up and the ignition key will not turn . The alarm when off I tried to start the jeep with the tail gate up would that be a problem starting up the jeep?

  • @enmanuelpena7663
    @enmanuelpena7663 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just got the opposite of what happened here, my cylinder turns freely with without the pin resistance or "clicks". It smoothly turns all the way and remained stuck on the first click where you can read the fuel, oil and I think temp levels with the key out or in. Tried again several times and still no clicks, key comes out freely... I'm hoping it's just the cylinder pins and not the switch underneath.
    Thanks for the video, 05 jeep tj.

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe the switch/ part the cylinder engages to? The link in between! But that would still be a ignition replacement! Easy swap hope it’s not more involved than that for ya! Thanks for watching

    Can anybody help me get my ignition cylinder out without the key

  • @highdessert4700
    @highdessert4700 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I was thinking the release switch inside that little hole at the bottom of the steering column only operates if the key is moved forward in the on position. If you try to push that release button in the locked position, it will not budge. So how were you able to remove it if the key would not allow you to move the stuck cylinder forward into the on position??

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because I could put the key all the way into the cylinder and somewhat force it enough to work. The problem was the cylinder was seizing up in the start position. I couldn’t get the Jeep to start, so removing the cylinder allowed for this until I could get to the parts store to get the replacement cylinder and key. 🍻

  • @laurie2991
    @laurie2991 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You make it look so easy. I was hopeful. However, I don't have a key and to push the button to release the cylinder you need to be able to turn it part way to on. So, how do I get this suckered out with no key? Help!?!?!?

    So if you have no keys at all for the vehicle at auction then I can easily change the Ignition Barrel but what about the Door's ??

    • @ATEMOFFROAD
      @ATEMOFFROAD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do have to have the key to remove the lock cylinder, once removed you can start it up. You would need a locksmith to make a key for the ignition which would most likely match the doors! At that time you may want to check it’s the same as the door before locksmith leaves! Good luck and thanks for watching 🍻

      Hmm Maybe 🤔 Take other side lock off door or side with broken key if possible and have him make a key for that lock! Should work for ignition! Also if you can get the lock cylinder off, the locksmith can extract the broken key if you have both half’s of the key he can copy one for you
