Some guy in Missouri posted a video pulling the airbag and steering wheel on a obs f150 to change the lock cylinder. We spent a year one night in Misery on our way to Arizona. Thanks for posting FordTech!

Just did this today. This really works ! At first this key would not turn to the on position. It finally loosened after i sprayed WD-40 into the lock assembly. Thank you.

Once again, I have to thank you for this channel and your expertise! I PROUDLY still own my 1996 decked out, one of a kind, Conversion Ford Explorer! It’s wonderful knowing that I can check here for pointers that a Haynes manual doesn’t tell you regarding idiosyncrasies between the different years! It has over 250K miles on it and I wish I had kept it as a Collecter car. If I could find another, I’d buy it in a heartbeat! It’s interesting that when ordering the key cylinder replacement, they needed to know the exact month and date it was manufactured. Please keep posting anything else for anyone else who owns these Fords and follows you or for those who might still find your EXCELLENT shared experience and advice!🙏👏😎💕🙏❤️😎🤠!

I don’t mean to complain but there’s too many videos out there of people giving you the full history of their truck before they show you how to do what you’re looking for! In my defense I’m an old bitter crabby old man with no patience and I don’t care to hear about everybody’s personal history on that truck !!

Take a pocket knife and a pair of plyers and twist the ignition. You can put a screw drive run along the side to pop the ignition and install and new ignition lock cylinder they come with keys. Depending on the security your key may need programed or you can use a wire on your starter fuse under the hood.

Hey, we've got a 98 Windstar and we're working on replacing the ignition lock cylinder and I have a question: the instructions we got with our cylinder say that for some models you have to detach an alarm wire from the old cylinder and attach it to the new one. Is the Windstar one of them, and am I right in that we'd have to remove the shroud on the steering column to attach that wire? Thanks in advance!

    • @FordTechMakuloco

There is a little key in sense wire on there most years and a orange switch on the lock cylinder itself. If the lock is not broken the wire will stay in play while the lock cylinder is being removed.

      To the Thunderbird Guy.
I can’t help but tell you the WONDERFUL MEMORIES your comments brought me back to my 1977 Thunderbird that was Playboy’s
Car of The Year! I bought it off the showroom floor in 1978. Mine was one of only 7 built at the factory that were termed “Continental“ Styling! It was SO LUXURIOUS AND people loved it and gave me many compliments and questions. It had a 351 Windsor, 4 barrel carb, and was a bullet!!! But wasn’t terrible on gas, which amazed me!
I restored it and was going to keep it off the road as a collector. Several years later I fell in love with a 40 ft 4 horse living quarters, 3 axel horse trailer that was one of a kind and fit my immediate needs, so I sold it.
A year or 2 later, I was notified that the buyer never transferred the title and it was in the impound lot. I proved my bill of sale and they said it had been trashed and headed for the crusher! It broke my heart! Thanks for helping me remember all the WONDERFUL TIMES I had with that show stopper, I never should have let go of!❤️💕♥️

@@sheilasmith1109 up til the impound part, it’s wonderful! The 77 was a big beautiful car, and amazing to be one of only seven made that way!
I know my Turbocoupe is one of a handful with its particular options, but certainly more than one of seven…and no 351 to scoot it along. The horse trailer probably/hopefully brought you many wonderful memories as well ❤️

so glad to see this vid - was at the gas station last night and the key just got stuck in the ignition, wheel wouldn't turn... i pulled the 'girl in distress' card (which by the way, i hate doing) and a gentleman at the next pump, as luck would have it, had had the same issue and did the brake, pull the wheel, jiggle jiggle which at least got me home... so assuming i need another of these, which will have to be ordered, is there a way i can keep the many key/remotes i have?? also, can i give it a couple shots of something like a dry lubricant to at least keep it going until i get a replacement?

To fill in it or maybe a bolt ? Would a bolt interfere with anything like the electronics lmk

I have a 1998 Mustang where when I turn over the ignition the car won't turn over. I'm not sure if it's the tumbler or ignition switch or perhaps a fuse. When I turned over the key the headlights will stay on but my windshield wipers will stop so that tells me it's not the battery or starter. Could someone tell me if it would be the tumbler or ignition switch? Thank you

What if the cam accidentally goes in backwards and you need to get it out to fix it would you turn it the opposite way then like for accessory?

Good video. I always seem to forget the pin on the cylinder lock mechanism.

This helps, but my lock cylinder on my ‘98 ranger will not turn to the run position. I move the steering wheel back and forth, but she is temperamental. Any tips on how to fix that so I can replace the lock cylinder?

My ex tried to steal my expedition and damaged what I've seen referred to as the halo around the ignition that reads the chip in the key. Is there a way to bypass this problem? If I replace it will it still recognize my original key?

I’m curious if a locked steering wheel on a 2011 F150 but the key does turn and start the truck. Cylinder is very loose sloppy. Is that a mechanism in the cylinder that lets the steering wheel unlock. Weird thing I have had where with the key in and the Truck shut off I could move the steering wheel left right. It wasn’t locked
