    Fixed my 2001 Wrangler. This method for ignition switch replacement is different than how the factory service manual says to do it. Your way seemed easier! I don't have tilt-steering and it still worked, though getting the top portion of the shroud and the switch out was a bit difficult without the tilt.
    Your description of the process is thorough & easy to understand - great instructional video.
    Now I have back-up lights, airbags and HVAC all working again. Awesome. Thanks a million.

    Thanks for this video. I was trying to find out why my HVAC system was dead. Checked the control switch module, resistor pack, blower motor relay and blower motor, and all were OK. Discovered no voltage going to the fuse that feeds the relay coil (and also to the fuses that feeds the air bag system - the air bag warning light was on, and backup lights which I discovered weren't working either). From the schematics, the voltage source for all these fuses was through the ignition switch. Watched your video, bought the switch for $15, installed it and everything works great. Was about to take it in to the dealer, so this saved me considerable cash!

    Where you really saved me, along with all the other information, was showing me how to use a screwdriver to orient the switch like the old one. I was racking my brain to figure out how to turn the cylinder lock assembly itself until I watched the video again. Thanks!

    Thanks for this great video. After watching I decided to order the part and try this fix before taking my jeep to the shop. After receiving the part from Amazon, I was up and running in no time. You saved me time and more importantly - quite a bit of money. The part cost $14 and the most difficult part of the replacement was that damn red tab on the plug. Great information!

    Thank you for posting this video. My 04 had no signals and the radio was also not working. A jeep forum led me to the problem and your video showed me exactly how to fix it, thank you!

    Thanks for this video. I was able to get this done to my '01 Wrangler in very little time despite this being the first time I've never messed w/ anything in the steering column.

    Thank you! I Used this video as a guide to fix my 2006 Wrangler. Ignition "stuck" in the Run position. It would not start or turn off the battery. The ignition key turned just fine. The video is good guide on how to quickly disassemble the column covers and get access to the switch. In my case, I had to go one step further and remove the actuator. The cast aluminum shaft broke off and a piece jammed the switch in Run. Got a new part at the local part store and was up and running. Cost me ~$50 for the part and an hour or so to complete the project.

      Great job! Glad that my older video could help and get you part of the way there. I have seen that actuator break a few times over the years. Glad that there is that repair kit on the marker to make it a cheaper fix. Thanks for commenting!

    What a Great Video. My 2007 Jeep has the Ignition Switch RECALL but the dealership says the next Appt is 3months from now. But if I'm paying Cash, its tomorrow. So, I'll be doing it myself. (Thanks Stealership). First, I'll get the Tamperproof T-10 Torq, watch the video a few more times and away I go. Thanks Mate, wish I could share a beer with you and tell you how it went.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ron Hawkins Did they really offer to do the repair if you paid cash? I assume its not a wrangler? I checked and I don't see any recalls on the 2007 Wranglers for the ignition switch. Let me know the VIN of the vehicle and then I will check further. You can email it to me at david@motorcitymechanic.com .

      MotorCity Mechanic hey David thanx for the vid. I too kind of want to know the symptoms... My 2007 jk will start normal 9 x's out of 10 but that 1 time it just click click click .... Then I turn the key back and after 2 more tries it cranks up normally . I put in new starter new plugs/wires new coil pack New map sensor new O2's. New battery. I'm just doing my 200k mile freshen up to make my mind think it's newER.... A friend mech tells me it's my ignition.. I just don't know what part of the ignition. Any ideas..? Thanks jay

      The symptoms were that it wouldnt start at all as far as spin over. The last position of the ignition key would do any thing...start position. Once the assembly was torn down....broken pieces were found and then the repair was made that you saw in the video. Thanks for subscribing.

    my TJ ignition hangs in start and i have to manually move it to on after it cranks or the starter keeps going. would this be my problem?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On yours it could be the switch of the mechanical portion of the key cylinder that goes into it. Removing the switch is one way to see if the end of the key cylinder linkage is broke off in the switch. Thanks for the question Chris.....and make sure to subscribe

    Easy as...thanks for the video. But my 2003 Wrangler still won't start or crank. Not even a click. I assumed it was either the ignition switch or possibly the actuator pin. I replaced the switch thanks to your video and the actuator pin looks ok (including the aluminum bits). Not sure what else I can check. Any ideas? The fuel pump won't stop priming when I turn the key to on. Is there maybe a short somewhere?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its going to be hard to say.....it could be one of dozens of different causes. It would require first checking for codes in all the modules and then reading the data as well. Then a good looking over the wiring diagrams to see if something is missing as far as voltage at different locations. There is no one item I can point you towards at the moment without touching on all the items I mentioned above.

    I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. Occasionally, when I try to turn the key, it won't turn. I stick it in and out 50 times and then it will turn. What part of the ignition switch could be bad? Thanks

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JAY STATON The most likely issue is the key cylinder itself....the portion that the key goes into. The tumblers are most likely worn out. I would first see if you have a second key and see what affect it has incase its not the ley worn out. If still the same then the key cylinder needs to be replaced. It takes some locksmith skills to do but nothing to big. If you haven't done one before it may seem odd or you might have a few issues. I haven't done a video on that repair as of yet. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe

      John The Mechanic Afternoon John. The most likely issue is in the ignition switch portion. I would take it apart and see if any thing obvious with the cylinder linkage. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
