Are you gonna keep the Grand long term?
We are thinking of getting one when we move back to the U.K. and start our van life journey, is it really that bad? Lol
If so what would you get instead?
For me personally based on my experience and that of others i have spoken to who own them they have been a nightmare and personally i could not recommend getting one. Get something from Hymer or a company like that. One of the biggest issues is the after service. With Hymer and others its a specialist company who focus on that. With VW you get sent to their commercial van centers who are used to dealing with white van men and pickups. They do not have a clue.
Mine was one of the early versions i know they have fixed a few things since then but again i couldnt recommend one personally.
I am not looking to keep it much longer hopefully. If i can sort things out ill be going to a larger more traditional motorhome.

My roots have always been with VW roughing it in a tent at VW festivals, so was thinking of a T6.1 Cali but now I’m older I want a shower and toilet lol. But it’s hard to ignore advice like yours.
I totally understand what you’re saying about “Service” but on the flip side not too many Hymer service centres in Essex either 🤦🏻♂️

You are so brave to put on your work , not that there is anything wrong with it at all . But some may pick and pick and pick . It’s yours and if you’re happy then all the rest button it . Making a camper personalised would be to me the scary bit . What if ……..oh hell thinking about it makes me a wreck . 👍🐾
Everyone picks faults with everything i find. The people that generally pick the most about other peoples work havent done anything themselves most of the time. I like it, it works and thats all that matters.
Go for it. If your worried dont do anything destructive. Everything i made in this video can be turned back to original, nothing is permanent.

Perhaps using a child gate door could work.

I use a strong double sided tape. Just one I got off Amazon. Last time I used super strong Velcro strips
