    48:15 Kammererite is not Lepidolite
    Kämmererite is a purple variety of clinochlore, a mica-like Mg-Al-silicat. It's color is caused by chromium. Kämmererite is always found in fractures of ultrabasic rocks, usually with chromite ore. The only known locality for transparent crystals is the Kop Krom chromite mine in the Kop Daglari Mountains of Turkey.
    The cabochons have an attractive light to dark purple color; some thinner pieces are translucent. Some of the material shows a folded texture, and this type is visually similar to charoite, a well-known ornamental stone from Siberia. The measured refractive index (RI) of kämmererite is approximately 1.57, very close to charoite, but Kammererite has a much lower Mohs hardness (about 2.5, rather than charoite’s 5-6). This new kämmererite is inert under UV light, but white layers in the samples show creamy fluorescence under both long-wave and short-wave UV.

      @@Jordan__Sloan people often claim that a gem or crystal only comes from one location. Sometimes that's true and remains true. Other times that's only true for a short time and then suddenly those same crystals are being found all over the world. I've seen this happen many times over. It's kind of fascinating really. Actinolite Quartz is supposedly only found in Australia, but I also find that here in the US so... Lol.

    I wouldn’t mind Dave showing us the Brazilian examples of recuts more. The reason I ask is because I have went through literal tons of material in Arkansas and have crystals come out of the “peanut butter” with facets, sides, and windows or even whole crystals so perfect smooth they honestly look worked. I guess I would be easy to fool with that kind of experience.

    • @lapidarydave
      @lapidarydave  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There’s a few things to look for on the recuts I’ll try to mention the more I was worried that maybe it was becoming annoying for some people since I mentioned it so much I appreciate your kindness, and I definitely will talk about it more

      @@lapidarydave Thank you so much! I don’t want you to put yourself in an awkward position if the vendor can hear. I just would like to learn more on identifying what is natural vs what was worked. Of course, some natural markings are never reproduced and obviously natural. Those that aren’t are my weakness I’d love to learn to identify.

    Before the "Crystal Woo Woo People" invented their crystal mythology, in the 80s, you couldn't GIVE AWAY quartz crystals that were not brilliant, with perfect UNPOLISHED faces, and no chips. The garbage you see at 41:47 is an example of crystals you could buy for a dollar or two, or five. The idea that crystals had some sort of "magical powers" fucked up the entire rock and mineral hobby. I don't care if you walk around all day with a 6" crystal inserted in your ASS. It’s not going to heal you of anything. They are beautiful as ornaments, but they can't actually "do" anything unless they are sliced into tiny wafers for electronics equipment. Then, they can regulate a vibrational frequency for radio communications.
