- Despite being relatively unknown to the general public, gemstones like heliodor, spinel, purple jade, and paraiba tourmaline have stirred emotions ever since humans first laid eyes on them.
What is their origin?
What route have they taken before they are shown in glass cases at jewelers?
Who are the gem hunters who find them, by the way?
This movie takes us inside the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, the largest trade show and exhibition for precious stones in the world, to uncover the truth behind these riddles.

It's my dream to see the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. One day I'll see it.
I wanna go this year
I suggest that you take GOOD walking shoes as you will be walking forever, water doesn't hurt too. That show is very spread out so pre plan what your favorites are and go for it.
@@dianalclements9223 I am elderly and disabled. Is the Tuson show set up for people with disabilities? I need to use a rolator (walker on wheels) when I move around. Also is there handicap parking next to the tents? It has always been a dream of mine to see some of these gem shows. I live in the Missouri Ozarks so I would have to travel a good distance to see the Tuson show. Thanks for your tip about good walking shoes and bottled water.😊

This was a lot of information, I had no clue about but, I'm 63 and just now starting my journey into the mineral and gem world. I've always had a love affair of Turquoise since I was about 4 years old, my grandmother went to Arizona on vacation she brought me back a bracelet cuff that was Sterling Silver and the most gorgeous blue/green stones I've ever seen. Fast forward 50+ years and I'm still in love with Turquoise but I'm broadening my horizons. Documentaries such as this give me the true sense of the gem world and all I need to learn.
What I don't get is that how can a person get paid literally nothing for working for something that is worth the most on this earth????? It's mind blowing!!!!!!
That was your takeaway? How bout some racism thrown in.
Its🎉only worth what someone will pay.
Mining for your own gems is not allowed in a western or European industrial company which is just bullying the slavery who puts in all the work
Greedy mining controllers is how
Welcome to capitalism at its worst.
As a stone lover every stone is beautiful than other, i feel it they have their own personalities like a human being, and always have capabilities to bring out the most beautiful part of it. Love the documentary, thank you so much. ❤️❤️❤️
personalities like humans? How many people do you know with the personality of a rock?
@@shellytanner alot more than you guessed babe
I agree
❤
Mining for gems and Stones definitely is an addiction. It's always so exciting to find that special treasure
Where do you go mine at and hours do you get in it
So in the past I have gone to Diamond Hill Mine in South Carolina it's actually on the border of South Carolina and Georgia and for $10 a day you can dig all day long and keep what you find in the past they would let you camp out there but they don't allow that anymore because people have ruined it for others they have amethyst smoky quartz clear quartz Etc in the past I have found nice double-sided Krystal's
@@joannb6254 that is so interesting!! thanks for telling us ❤
Tucson shows: definitely must be added to the bucket list!
This is indeed an absolutely outstanding documentary on Crystal's and Gemstones
I go to Tucson every year and it was cool watching this video and seeing you interview a number of people I work with/have become friends with. It was also great to watch things go from mine to jewelry sale. I’m obsessed with the industry as a whole and very much enjoyed watching this so thanks!
When is the next Tucson gem show

❤I am a true fan of crystals because of the many beautiful colors these semi-precious stones have. I collected crystal jewelries from 2010 to 2020. After I found out these crystals are coming from under paid miners in under developing countries, I stopped collecting because of my guilt in this guilty pleasure of gemstones jewelries collecting habit💔.
True. Also we humans should not dig in to mother Nature for greed and ignorance to Steal its resources. May we all learn to just ' take only what we need not what we think we want. ✨️😇💚🙏🏼🪽🕊🌌🌈❤️🩹
We all have our own individual part to play in the crazy stage of life. From those who call the shots and move mountains to those who are actually doing the moving. You are providing an income and a way to sustain that life.
It's your perspective that's the only difference. Shed away some of that guilt that society imposed upon you and change it to that of the "provider" instead of the taker.
For all you know the person your thinking about being exploited could actually be the next owner of the mine? Unless you are there to witness the exploited events maybe relax a bit and continue to do you.
Might as well not use your phone either since the crystals in it were most likely mines by children 😢
That is too selfish and simplistic. Earth is dying. We need employmemt generation not from environment and human exploitation to feed the luxuries and faiths of the rich and greedy but from something environmentaly sustainable, non exploitative and symbiotic and compassionate towards all himan beings regardless of race, religion, nation or language.
We need to heal ourselves and learn to share as earth cohabitants before we plan for mars. Mars is not an option after destroying our only one pale blue dot - Earth.
I personally feel that such nature explotative indistries triggered by consumer markets can be controlled only by giving our contribution regardlessnof how small it is. By stopping use from our side. Can we stop everything? No. But atleast we can be moderate in our use. Earth can fulfill our needs not greed. The question is when we defone our greed as need😢
We need support the good quality documentary like this 👍👍❤️❤️
Thank you so much !

Years ago De Beers set out to keep diamond prices sky high. One way was to artificially limit the amount of stones available. It worked.
Absolutely amazing, easily the best gem and mineral documentary ever made
Thank you!
I agree!😁👍
Thank you for sharing this documentary. From the mines, to the gem and mineral shows, to the jewelry making by Cartier, this documentary has everything. I enjoyed every minute. Please continue making these videos! They are a benefit to the world

I'm in love with stones for their beauty. I'm happy I have watched this n seen other stone lovers all over the globe.
I dream of some day meeting other stone lovers❤.
I just love the untold beauty in stones. I may not know valuable ones..but all in all I love stones. There's just some unexplainable peace within when you look at any stone❤.
Glad I bumped into this Extraordinary Video showcasing Amazing Stones 😊. Seeing a number of Stone Mines here is incredible 😍. I get lovestruck with these natural beauty..can I say I get stonestruck😅.. 👍.

Exploring the world's greatest treasure in this full documentary is truly mesmerizing! The allure of crystals and gemstones is beautifully captured, unveiling the wonders hidden beneath the Earth's surface. A journey worth taking to discover the extraordinary beauty and mysteries of these precious treasures.
I absolutely loved every second of it!
This documentary was a gem .. 💎 I'm so glad that I unearthed it. ❤
18:25, Peridot! That's my birthstone and my favorite.
Sooo, what I basically gathered from this documentary; is that Africa is literally sitting on trillions of dollars worth of stones
Yep
Physically, mentally, and spiritually
Ya and the sick company's in the country use slave labor to get them out of the ground. 😢 I fell fell bad for the citizens of the country.
That’s why the Chinese are there.
@@suziecreamcheese211 oh ok. I thought they were there to own the cobalt mines smh doesn’t sound ethical either way
The miners deserves so much better if they could get some of these gems
I need to go to the show. Thank you for the informative documentary.
Enjoyed it.
Awesome documentary but imo the tanzanite bracelet with what looks like a clear quartz? Would have been way cooler if they used something like a rutilated quartz or a fluid inclusion that would add a motion flow to the bracelet if it's a snowy mountain the fluid could be a symbol of snow melts. 😅
Wooow.. you are amazing, the crystals are beautiful. 💯💯❤❤💎💎💎
Would make a great premise for a gem heist movie. Like an Oceans Eleven type movie.
Thanks for the upload 🙏
Those are some beautiful crystal Tanzanite, that is awesome. They are all beautiful I love watching this documentary this morning, another wonderful day for me. Thank you. Ohwee wow, I love peridot and a lot of different crystals that is cool. I learned so much watching this.
Fantastic documentary with a really nice balance of perspectives. Thank you
Thanks for the documentary. I’m gobsmacked that Cartier would put a tanzanite canochon in a bangle. It will be damaged and chipped in no time. Tanzanite is too soft and brittle for rings and bracelets. The should have used a sapphire, they’re Cartier for crying out loud.
I love them for geological reasons. beautiful and created under immensely insane and complicated chemical and physical earth processes.
For me, when they are manhandled and stolen from the Earth, cut into a billion pieces and smashed apart into nothing then spirited away to greedy hoarders....they lose their value instantly, completely, forever.
These absolute perfections of nature, belong in a museum, where EVERYONE can marvel at their natural beauty, without having been cut into a million pieces, their inherent, natural beauty,
lost forever.
I don't agree. When a person owns something it is theirs and they can change hands for the right price. W
Thank you for this documentary 💎
@ 29:49 *the Rhodochrosite Snail, Stellar!!!*
30:28 *Dr Robert Lavinsky displays such Delicious pieces of Mineral Art! I've never seen such exquisite pieces. I imagine Cartier purchasing his pieces.*
... and then the Tanzanite made its way to Cartier, *"what a Fabulous Design"* and materials used for that Exceptional Setting, *"Perfect!"* a choice very similar to a design I created, about 2 years ago, and now I'm am inspired to build.
Note: one can use most any variety of gemstones to achieve that picture of art in their mind. Once its put together, it becomes *"its Own Individual pieces of Art"* and thus is priced with the value of Stones, Metals, and Design. *Art is everywhere the Passion is portrayed.*
On the Bentley, the car, here's my perspective:
"A Bentley or a "Diamond"? *Honey, I'll take a Diamond as big as a Bentley, when the tires dry rot and the metal has faded paint, my Diamond still shines bright enough to "Signal Ships"!*
"Diamond: meaning Mineral Art, Precious Stones, or Precious Gemstones"
... and I very much like Bentley's and Bugatti's, although my signature is Black on Black with Chrome Wheels, (I might make an exception for their Golden interior.)
Art on Wheels ...
PS: I'm Particularly fond of Lapis Lazuli, Pyrite, Peridot, and a variety of Red Gemstones, *now, "Rhodochrosite" has entered my top 5!*
Few people know the gems or rocks type.
Incredible work, really enjoyed this, just a fantastic display of humanities fascination with the beauty that abounds.
Awesome video but my personal little thrill was in hearing Mookaite being named and shown off. I live in Western Australia and own a little retail crystal & craft shop. I buy Mookaite directly from Australian Outback Mining (Glenn Archer). Glenn owns the main lease on the Mookaite deposit, which is only found in that one place in the whole world. If you own a piece of Mookaite, it has come from that one deposit and the chances are 90% or better that Glenn dug it up. Given how many thousands of unique and obscure crystals exist in the world, seeing Mookaite named and displayed in this video was very special!
I would love to look at your collection! Where are you located
@@TenToesDownInc. Hi :) I am on Great Eastern Hwy, Sawyers Valley (about 4km east of Mundaring).
Hi do you have a web site
Inspiring. Great documentary.
The workers get 20 cents. France get 100$
The Western Governments has always done people of poverty dirty...
They Western Governments know...
If Africa ever United all in Islam, and was strategic, informed, collectively organized, and stopped all western mining ⛏️ and Africa takes full control of its own resources, in 30 years or so, Africa could be a super powerful continent.
So the Western Governments meddle, scheme, pillage, mine, and take for cheap all of the gems 💎 and minerals they can.
If you fight the western governmentsz they sanction your countries, label you pedophiles and terrorists.
Every fuking time.
The West is evil, not everyone, but all of the Disbelievers are.
For sure.
I loved this video,I live where the best black Opal in the world comes from that is Lightning Ridge, it's in the outback of NSW Australia, 🦘 I love all types of stones.I would love to see all that is in Tulson.Noreen Australia

Thank you so much for watching!
Huge trucks needed to transport 3-4 tons of "collosus." Think pyramids of Giza. Respect to the ancients who did not have trucks or wheels.
They had wheels.
I cannot believe how the guy, Peridot Dreams hammered away on the Peridot, he probably broke off EVERY CRYSTAL POINT
Really inspiring nice documetry
Nice stones!❤
As a Tucson local for the past 20ish years the gem show has always been something I don’t miss. School trips took us there, my parents. And being an adult now I go everywhere will adult money haha. Dangerous

I wonder how much has changed in the decade since this was filmed. Very interesting.
Very good dokumentation.
Indonesian moss agate is my top fav stone. It's scenic and just beautiful.
As a high-end mineral collector, i have a piece from almost every local they mentioned lol
I live here and saw them making this video 😂😂
Ps this is the largest show we get in tucson and make the traffic horrible. And 90% of sellers only take cash
I am full of hope and prayer for the miners and their families, hoping that they will be in good health.
I wish that they have the opportunity also to enjoy life.
Hope they get a supportive and sympathetic treatment from their employers & manegers ❤🙏
Don't think the miners especially of colour get any benefits, even ones that die underground .their families dont get the support .😢
Nice thought. Unfortunately even semi-precious stones such as rose quartz are mined by brown children and they and their families see nearly none of the profits. Then rich white folks in rich countries like USA buy them.
Ah yes especially the ones "of color". Do you have ANY idea of what you are talking about@@MT-vi4le
I think the workers have to work somewhere.
@@MT-vi4le 98% of the miners are "of colour" ant they are compensated well. All of them, even the "coloured" ones.
I have a few pieces of gem stone rings necklaces and bracelets but never really know about the mining of these stones but as I get older I am crazy about gem stones and I never realize how many people are gem crazy like me. I don't have very large pieces but some times I will take a light and explore them I taught I was crazy but there are lots of people doing the same thing. I wish I could see some of the mines I would scream my head off and jumping up and down. Thank you so much now I know a little more about my jewelry. Gem stones in earth and corals and pearls from the oceans I got lots of pearls and corals also . I am so excited watching these videos thanks and safe mining god bless . 🙏🇨🇦
Great sir!
