    The square "i" is finding it's way onto repros. I have a fake of Diddy Kong Racing with the square "i". I like the double digit stamp and the number in the cartridge slot for the quick methods, but as you pointed out nothing beats cracking it open and seeing the Nintendo logo on the original board. Thankfully they haven't faked that. . . .yet. I have found the sweet spot for me is buying cosmetically flawed originals as it puts most of them into the affordable range, while still being the real deal.

      Yeah, I just got a bootleg mario kart 64 in. I could tell it was fake, but the dot on the lower case "i" is indeed square. When they learn to use correct game art and indent the numbers on the back is when we'll all definitely start to be in trouble granted they don't mess up anything else on the outside.

      Yea the Shell is hard to trust because you can pretty much swap a lot of the shell parts from cheap authentic games. It would be super easy to just take the back of a cartridge and swap it onto a repro, same with the shield. The board is the only way to 100% know its authentic

    Vintex 64 makes handmade high quality repro carts from Canada. You can also get translated japanese repros and unreleased prototype games like mini racers and viewpoint 64.

      Repros that are homebrews and alternate versions are definitely good and opens up a whole new world of gaming!

    I work at a retro game store. Just got one in that looked "sus" so I had to check. I already knew a lot of tricks to tell, but I've never seen (at least I don't think) a bootleg n64 game in person yet. The biggest tell was how clean it was. Then the front label was all sorts of wrong, the back label didn't have the number indented in it like all legit nintendo games have, and while the letter I in the nintendo logo mold was indeed square, the oval was a little off center, not to mention the labels were off center as well. Didn't even need to open it.

    This would explain why the copy of Ocarina of Time I bought a couple weeks ago wouldn’t save.

    The label alone can more than double the price sometimes, so i could see legit carts with replacement labels being a thing, and i wouldnt blame them for that. I realize, that is probably not normally the case though, sadly.

    KA does not exist in PEGI nor ESRB labels, and E in ESRB should be a solid black!

    I have a copy of banjo tooie where it seems everything is authentic except the label stickers. The lettering under the red nintento logo on the front is black, most of of the lettering on the front is pretty blurry and the picture looks too clean. Back label has no stamp and no accent on the "A" in the french sentence... but the cart has a square for the "i" in nintendo and after opening up both the cart and board look legit. I wonder if repro's are just getting better or if it's just the labels.

    I have a question for u I bought a copy of Mario party 1 a while ago and it came in today it looks very authentic except for 1 thing for some reason it is half light gray half dark grey that is split on the back and idk why that is do u know why? Is it real fake or some type of factory error?

    • @navinramaswaran
      @navinramaswaran  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The previous owner could have switched up the front or back of the case for one reason or another. If the chip inside checks out as authentic, this is just a cosmetic difference that shouldn't affect the game. I had a Goldeneye cartridge that had mismatched grey case colours, but it was authentic.

    I just beat a recently purchased copy of Mario Party 3 just to have my game erased after the end credits.
    Thanks to this video, I now that it is a fake, as well as my copy of Super Mario 64!

      It's called a Gamebit Screwdriver. I bought mine from a video game store, but you can easily find them on Amazon too.

    Wait ? Ppl change the back for clean effect isnt the real only way to tell is looking at the bottom to see if its actually brownish tan not a light color, bcuz somone can take a real one an replace its who case doesnt make the game a repo tho if it has original front board and game art , changing the back doent make it fake , ppl pay attention to the bottom
