SONY A7IV: Things To Look Out For When Streaming via USB-C
3 key points that I learnt while streaming via USB-C using the Sony A7IV - overheating, APSC crop, type of USB-C cable.
00:00 - Intro
01:33 - Overheating when USB power supply is ON
03:14 - 1.5x crop when Movie Recording is ON when streaming
04:00 - Cable matters
04:52 - A tidbit

retro tink or its clones can be bought for 50€ here, definitely the better option imo, the hdmi mod does too little to justify the price.
I knew the Mario was fake cuz it looks like had white boarder along the rating
Fantastic video I hope you make more again!
Great video!
Bro never heard of lens hoods 🤦♂️ The end should wrap around it and then you can zoom without any issues.
Useful
that crop!!! thank you, was confused
I opened a few games some are full, 3/4, or half the shell depending on the game. A lot of repros are half boards.
great info
great video straight to the point
Thanks, this was extremely helpful. Looking at pickup a used A7iv for streaming now. Have you by chance had any overheating problems if using a dummy battery?
What I can say is that it's great that we have options for whichever camp people sit in. The pure digital unfiltered pixels are what my inner kid always wanted, but for those who prefer that the image looks closer to their old RF or composite CRT setup, they have filters. Everybody wins.
Appreciate bro
Do you think long streams without recording 4k 30f via hdmi and dummy battery is doable? I was going to get an fx30 because I make my living with streams so it should be reliable and definitely not overheat...but I'd love a hybrid camera.
I believe streaming in 4k caps your frame rate to 15fps, so 1080p is the better option. To stream 4k at 30p you'll need a capture card or something like a Backmagic switcher.
Did I hear you right. Streaming for 3 hrs no overheating? I can't even do an hour. Are you using a dummy battery? 1080p instead of 4k? cold room? etc what are you settings?
Hi there, interesting informations. I experienced a overheating shutdown and find out that even if USB-C power supply was turned on, the battery was slowly discharging. Have you noticed difference in overheating using usb-c cable vs HDMI port? I’d like to ask you if recording on SD card while streaming makes the camera heat even more and if the battery discharges quicker. I am thinking about using battery grip or a dummy battery, maybe combined with a fan I saw on Amazon that should cooler the back of the camera. Thank you man!
An amazing method that also can be seen in this video is the word "Information" on the second to last line on the back label. The originals will say "Informacion" like the original spanish, but for some reason repros get this wrong and it will say "Information" in english amongst the spanish words. You can even see it in this video. Has worked every time for me so far.
Dude, you answered literally everything I was looking for - to the point. Thanks, man!
Awesome, man! Glad the video was useful :)
I love this rain cover! I have a ti_ how to use it on film sets.
Curious what angled usb-c adapter did you use to clear the plastic cover to the charging slot. With the charger cover open I can’t get the usb-c to reach unless I have it facing backwards which still blocks the flip out screen
Hi there - This is the adapter that I used in the video: bit.ly/4aE8ELL
@@navinramaswaran thank you and appreciate all the great advice!
@@ty2slick My pleasure!
👏
Good to know thanks for the tips Mahalo bro 🤙🏽
I bought not knowing if games were real but got super lucky and all are real lol thank for video
Its fascinating that your video is still the only one that talks specifically about USB streaming for the A7IV in over 2 years. Great job explaining Brother! I Appreciate You! 💖💎🙌∞
Also have you used a Dummy Battery to combat the physical battery not having to be in?
Thanks for the kind words! Glad the video was of value :) I don’t typically use dummy batteries so I haven’t tried it with the A7iv unfortunately.
Its the most important information regarding a7 iv , i ever seen on TH-cam, thanks buddy
Appreciate it! Glad the info helped :)
Thanks alot you saved me big time with this
Thank you very much for this!
You’re most welcome!
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks a lot for this! My camera was also overheating after about an hour of streaming and I was kinda perplexed. I'll try it tonight with the battery charging set to off. Cheers again.
Hope the video helped! Let me know if the solution worked for you :)
KA does not exist in PEGI nor ESRB labels, and E in ESRB should be a solid black!
Thanks bro
I just beat a recently purchased copy of Mario Party 3 just to have my game erased after the end credits. Thanks to this video, I now that it is a fake, as well as my copy of Super Mario 64! Time to get a refund!
Bummer! Glad you spotted the fake though, hope you're successful in obtaining the refund :)
I ended up getting a high-speed 3.3 meter (10 foot) USB C cable with a build-in 90-degree head and it works great! Thanks for the advidce
thanks for these tips! planning on getting an A7iv soon and all of this is super helpful
Awesome! Enjoy your new camera!
Are there going to be any trailers for Invited dropping soon?
We’re in the midst of finishing the movie, and will be working on a trailer alongside that. Aiming for November :)
Preordered the a7CII, found this insanely helpful.
Awesome! The A7Cii seems like a stellar camera in a small body. Great choice!
Mine overheats in 5 to 10 minutes after starting streaming!
ehhh, i don't thinks this does it better. i think i might buy a good camera and then dub it over (better....)
A retrotink, even the earliest of retrotinks, along with good scanlines (even from a cheap external scanline generator like the gam3gear one off amazon) looks just as good in my opinion than any of the pixel fx mods settings. You didn't show the retrotink with scanlines next to the pixel fx with scanlines for a closer comparison.
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I noticed the same problem with the Insta360 RS 1" Edition when using the ND32.
The label alone can more than double the price sometimes, so i could see legit carts with replacement labels being a thing, and i wouldnt blame them for that. I realize, that is probably not normally the case though, sadly.
hey, i have the sony a7iv but when i use usb streaming it seems the camera drains battery so i can only use it for like 1.5 hour. i doesnt overheat the battery is just dead, i use it to stream on twitch so swapping batteries isnt really an option. i have usb power supply enabled. any tips? i reallly dont want to buy a camlink or such
This was so helpful!! Thank you!
Bro got right to the point 🫡 Thanks this info will help a lot since I started streaming and have been having my camera shut off due to overheating
Thank you for the kind words :)
Can we attached BOYA wireless microphone?
Uncertain. I didn’t test the Osmo with Boy unfortunately.
Great video man! Clear and concise without feeling rushed. Thanks for the help! I think what you need is a dummy battery for streaming. I’m getting this camera I think and hoping for the best. I wanna do 1080 streams for 7 hours, sometimes 12-24.
Checking in to see if you’ve been able to pull off any long streams with the A7IV. I too am looking to get on here soon for the same reason!
@@MarkoMadeIt It’ll prob be awhile before I can get one
@@switchunboxing How about now. Really looking for a way to have this on for 6+ hours without having to switch batteries
@@AlexBuckland I’m not considering a camera or lens purchase anymore. Wild to believe a year ago I was. I’m not motivated to make videos anymore, and my live streams have been doing fine with built in cam. Way more important things to spend my money on. If I had the money, it would be a much better investment for my streams to put that money into hiring an editor to make video clips for me rather than spend it on something like this.
What lens did you record this with? Wider than 20 right?
The shots of myself are with the Sony 20mm/1.8 actually.
@@navinramaswaran Thank you I was just about to get that one today. But it looks so distorted. I hear people using the word distorted I’m not sure if that’s what they mean? The bending and fisheye. Maybe it’s just because of how close you are to the camera but even your room looks like a fish bowl. I’m debating between that and Sigma 16-28 for my unboxing videos. Trying to upgrade from my iPhone but im just nervous on which lens to get. I love Sony quality. Thought I would get the 20mm and just crop in a bit or use clear image zoom. But idk. With sigma 16-28 I can really just zoom in with lens to get how close I need it. Idk why your shot looks so wide. I’ve seen video samples where it doesn’t look so wide. Do you have lens correction stuff turned off? I wasn’t sure you could.
Great travel reel! Mexico is such a fascinating country!
Sure is! 🥰
good review. Like to see the sony ecm g1 vs the sennheiser mke 200.
Please help i have it plugged in with dummy battery and the shit still tuerns off :( trash
