Sorry this is two years later, but... it was a good play, but then he continued to accuse Pip, Brendan and Quinns, which doesn't make any sense. I would've called him out right away on that.
@@silvercyndaquil8472 He accused Maen, Brendan, and Pip but then "realized" that Quinns would have to be evil if he said Brendan was good. He had created the facade that he "didn't trust Pip", so he included her in the list to make it seem like he was still trying to "figure things out." His story didn't have to be laser focused, because now he just had to be murky enough so that his accusation against Maen didn't seem like a plot in itself.

Sure, if Matt were good, he would have to know that Maen, Brendan and Quinns were the spies, so his continuing to accuse Pip outs him as a spy.
But, knowing that Matt is a spy, is the table actually better equipped to avoid sending Maen on the last mission? It seems like at that point everyone knew Matt was a spy, so his story being logically consistent wouldn't have mattered much anyway.

He also takes every opportunity to put suspicion on others, which is in itself suspicious.
The voting on missions is public, meaning you know how each person votes.
Unless you want the game to be harder for the resistance, which this gang seems to do.
@@DrMcFly28 It gets more complicated with Avalon, as the Spies can also gain info towards Merlin's identity through voting.
Quinn's is my spirit animal. I'm much the same when I'm telling the truth and people don't believe me, especially when it doesn't make sense to not believe me, like with Brendan's "If there were enough spies to fail the mission they'd still vote success to fuck with us!"
Good game, Matt play very well, but Tom probably played too cautiously that might have let his side down. Would love to see the group play Secret Hitler.

Wanted to point out that they did one thing I also love doing with this game: even though the rules don't care about the "actual" mission everyone's going in, I care! It's great for sparking discussion, and a good excuse to throw some accusations around!
Misplay by Perceival to not use his knowledge to push toward the right direction. Wasn't testing the potential merlins.
I don't think he had any reason to go with Tom as Merlin over Maen

I'm usually the ones leading the set-up. My friends have started (correctly) analyzing how long I give the steps to determin if I'm a traitor. I need new friends.
i do it aswell, always count to five on every step. always making abit of noise. trying to keep quite doesnt work :D

You are… don't know why they shuffled the votes together. How can you deduce anything?
I realize this is a necro post but with voting not being public (the way they played it) the game is essentially totally random. The "good" players have 0 information. They are just guessing.
This video was a waste of time for everyone involved. Which is why I didn't watch more than a few minutes of it.
My ranking:
1) Matt - had the hardest game to play, coped well with a barrage early on and knew when to be quiet, did the classic trick of throwing the baddie teammates under the bus and made Maen seem trustworthy on the last round. 10/10
2) Maen - quintissential quiet baddie effort, avoiding calling attention to herself. 9/10
3) Quinns - had the best intuition of the goodies, but Alpha'ed too much to the point that he drew attention to himself and the goodies did not know what to make of him. 7.5/10
4) Brendan - solid but overly skeptical, had an easy draw in terms of being identified as good. 5.5/10
5) Paul - also had an easy draw (no one ever thought he was bad), but played an internal game and did not really help goodie teammates. 5/10
6) Pip - too animated / talkative (classic baddie giveaway), but in the end was sorta useful at distracting attention from others. 3/10
7) Tom - waaaaay too concerned with being found out as Merlin, and from what I could tell did not use his powers at all. 1/10
This is wrong on so many levels. All I'll say is either you completely don't understand how the game works, or you just hate Tom and love Brendan, who literally threw the game for good guys, by not using the Lady on his 2 merlin suspects. He absolutely wasted the ultimate Perc situation of having a Lady to use -_-

I would really like to see another playthrough of this. Or one of the similar sort of games.
Whenever I've got a group of people I'm trying to convince to try this game, this is the video I often suggest as an example.
The problem of course is that while Matt does a devious job of lying here, Tom kind of helped the spies several times by arguing against sound logic and seeding confusion. The game is short enough that I think there should have been two playthroughs.
Brendan could have easily won the game as Percival if he used Lady of the Lake on Maen or Tom, figuring out who was the real Merlin. All Merlin had to do at that point was drop enough hints.

@@realhot_oolala No, but Merlin's job is to drop subtle hints, otherwise he's wasting his power. He doesn't know for sure that Percival has figured out who he is, but he can certainly try. Unfortunately Tom spent far too long playing dumb to throw off the Assassin, which he succeeded in doing but at the cost of his team's overall victory.
there were just subtle humorous things in the intro I appreciated too :)

Wow, this really descended from friendly speculation to "fuckity fuck fuck, you fuck!", which was all manner of entertaining.
It seems like Brendan should have passed the lady of the lake to Maen or Tom rather than to Matt. That would have let him know who Merlin was, and since Quinns knew Brendan was safe that would have given them 3 guaranteed good guys. Then Tom insists on making Paul the fourth, and Brendan vocally backs him up to muddy the waters of who Merlin is.

You guys should probably mention that you played the voting phase wrong.
Yep, the voting on whether or not to send people on the missions should be public. That is to say, everyone should know who voted to approve and reject any given team. Crucial for gathering information.
It would make the game more difficult to read... maybe an advanced option?

The next let's play of this style of game you do, what do we think about keeping identities hidden (or maybe upload a second version without the overlay) half way through and I wish I could play along and make my own guesses :)))
The amount of arguing and stress in this video reminded me of the Subterfuge series on Cool Ghosts.
26:40 the play of the game by Merlin. Do you see it? He talks directly to Percival. Percival listens. Merlin is hearing how and important voice on the table is being fooled by someone. he directs Percival to investigate that person. Unraveling the plot.
And then right after he steps out and loudly proclaims that maybe the assassin got a bum deal and really is a good guy. That should throw off the assassin. And anyone who is really listening to Merlin (Percival) is not listening to the loud stuff that comes out of Merlin's mouth.

@@neiloppa2620 I can see where OP is going with this, but Merlin didn't know which one was Percival, and I don't think he had any way to figure this out.
It's still a good play as he's essentially coaxing the good side player with the LotL card to oust the spy who was being the most problematic, and doing a good job of winning people over. Pip was playing the blame game too aggressively and lost peoples' trust at a very early stage, and Maen was being far too innocuous to risk exposing, as it would likely make it too obvious that he was Merlin by doing this.
Merlin can't direct Percival to anyting, since he doesn't know who Percival is. Your whole interpretation is built on nothing.

'Honestly, I have so much fun with this game when I'm not a special role, either as a Minion or a Knight. It's like getting to watch play acting, where as you can just play detective and chirp in occasionally.
Either that or being Oberon in larger groups. Oberon is so much fun. I love it ... you can be as chaotically whimsical as the King of the Fey himself. It's great fun. Only had two tastes of being Oberon, though ... but each time it was a blast. One time I rejected a party going on a quest that would have won the game.
But ultimately because I did reject it I ended up being trusted by two Knights who got me into the last quest that sealed it.
Naturally the King of the Fey has to make it all about themselves :3
When you learn how you screwed up a win opportunity, only to clinch it yourself in the process ... it just feels glorious.
Best thing of all is by that point that the Minions think you're a Knight, and are bad mouthing you, and only Merlin knows the truth. So by the last quest you're all ears and indignant because Merlin has to both agreeing to you ranting like a lunatic you have to be on a quest while you're pointing fingers at the most suspicious suspect Minions saying they shouldn't be going ... at the cost of others he knows are Minions ... but at the same time, try to put shit on you and yet not seem like it at the same time nor trying to appear as one of the Minions.
Oberon is great. It's like double bluffing without even knowing it. I must admit, though. Oberon either makes Merlin a lot of fun to play, or frustrating as all hell.Just think of everyone as Minions or Knights, and just go to town with Oberon. You can't go wrong.
Worse comes to the worse, if someone LotLs you towards endgame and outs you as Oberon, you can just accuse them of being a Minion and most likely Morgana or the Assassin (trying to suss you out as possibly Merlin for being so noisy) at that point because then the real Morgana makes a mental note; "Okay, that's Oberon..." and Percival starts giving them shifty eyes... assuming you sell it well ... but that plan can very well backfire.
Only because everyone said Matt played so well I'll point out a mistake he made. When he called Maen a spy by his own logic in the game he concluded 4 people were spies. That removes any doubt of Quinn lying to anyone aware of Matt's mistake. Essentially this alone proves Quinn as good and Pip/Mark as spies.
Had the vote been shown for Matt's nomination much more interesting information would have been available regarding the other players. Very little concrete info was shown on the non-nominating players in the game (Maen Tom and Quinn at that point although Matt's mistake proves Quinn). That's why good players (especially in percival matches!) need to vote down missions if only to see who Morgana and Merlin nominate as many times as possible.
If anyone is curious the logic Brandon shouldve used to confirm Quinn and Paul as good a little earlier is that Paul Maen Tom and Quinn were on Matt's mission but the mission did not fail given Maen and Tom were on the mission and Brandon knows one of them is Morgana so the only evil on the mission is Morgana

pip had a great chance to come back in once matt fingered maen, because the prevailing narrative for brendan was quinns was scum and the three people on mission 2 were brendan, quinns, and pip and only one failure happened. So the logic would be that quinns and pip couldn't both be scum and matt outing maen was desperation to push suspicion onto town
scum still won but this always got me because pip instead focused on saving all the spys which is a super obvious end game play.
Is the "Lady of the Lake" the same one from "Doraleous and Associates"?

Not sending Brendan with Quinns on the third mission seemed like a massive logical error. Unless I'm missing something, to do that you have to think Quinns is either lying about Brendan, which makes them both spies, or Q is a spy telling the truth to gain trust, but then you send him on the quest anyway?!... How does that make sense?
Also, that last approval vote is really rough when voting has been in the dark [playing on 'expert' difficulty I see :P ], and you only need one good guy to be confused. You really want to move the leadership to someone you think is 100% safe at that point.

Merlin and Percival didn't play great (especially Percival at times), but ultimately the game was well within reach until Quinns approved the fifth team. He didn't know who to trust between Maen and Tom, so he should've disapproved the missions that both of Maen and Tom selected in order to take leadership for himself. I love when I'm a spy and the Resistance doesn't think to use down-voting to gain information on how spies are voting. It's not sure-fire, especially since they aren't revealing who approves and disapproves like they're supposed to, but it's ultimately the best way for the good guys to find each other in this situation.

He was pretending to be clueless. If you're Merlin, you *need to pretend you're clueless, because if the good guys win at the missions, the bad guys still have one shot to win... The Assassin.
If the Assassin sniffs out who Merlin is, the bad guys win automatically.
Why on earth was Merlin ok with the party at around 16 minutes?? That makes literally zero sense

In the fifth round, they should choose the same people in the fourth round (not including the king herself). If she refuses to do that, then good guys should all reject her choice of people, and move on to the next person. Because if there were two bad guys on the fourth mission, it should have been the game already. So, it is guaranteed that good guys will win.
Agreed, although maybe not guaranteed. I've been in games where that has happened and the spies passed the fourth mission only so that the eventual hurt from round 5 failing was deepened.
In the fifth round, the bad guys only need one fail to win and not 2. If the good guys had insisted on the same lineup, Maen would have switched her vote to fail and the bad guys would have won.

If Quinn's anything like me, he's really good at deducing identities, but weak at lying if he's the bad guy. The most liberating and fun role for me is being a basic knight, because I can go to town on figuring people out and making as much noise as possible to get people onside, without worrying about losing the game by being assassinated at the end.
Being a bad guy is difficult because it's hard to argue with the same fervor unless someone makes a mistake that I can then double-down on to make them look like a liar.

Good game well played bad guys! But I think that when it’s just 7 people playing the game, the advantage swings heavily in the bad guys’ favour because it is 4 gd vs 3 bad guys. Instead of 5 gd 3 bad, 6 gd 3 bad and 6 gd 4 bad in a game of 8, 9 and 10 people respectively. And with Morgana included in this game as well, Percival’s advantage is pretty much nullified. Probably would have been gd to include Oberon in the game in place of Morgana to make it a little more balanced.
please correct me if im wrong, but isn't merlin only supposed to have seen only 2/3 of the spies?
qwerty32635 yes but its like this...the 4 spies-Morgana,Mordred,Assasin,Bad guy. Mordred wasnt included so there are 3 spies showed up cause morgana acts as if she is merlin cause percival doesnt know who merlin is cause merlin and morgana both thumbs up so he has to know who merlin is. The assasin is the one who will approve who merlin is cause whenthey lose they can still win if they guess who merlin is

Why did the baddie in the 4th round simply fail the mission to win the game? Didn't get why the game had to go to the 5th round. Fun watching the whole thing though, just bought this game and looking forward to play it.
The fourth mission needs two fails to fail, and there was only one spy.

Why dont the bad guys give out fail cards so as to fail the fourth quest? Then they should have won?

I know it's easy to point out the mistakes when you're spectating, but there were some bad mistakes made in this game. I mean first of all the spies were totally overthinking their reputation in round 4 - they could've just ended the game! Also Quinns should've deducted that the 4th mission should've failed - He knew he himself was a good guy, he knew Brendan was good and Pip was evil which leaves 2 spies left for the mission. No one played that well honestly...
Pip and Matt where heavily under suspicion at that point. It would have been difficult to get two spies on the mission to fail it. How could they have got two on?

The dynamic I hate in this game is that when someone is SURE you're a spy, you get disregarded in the most socially horrible way. No one is listening to Pip, and yeah, she's the spy, but how can that be fun for her to be so rejected?
Even though she outed as a spy her job can still be accompolished by continuous spreading of confusion through voting and trying to convince someone who aren't hundred percent sure. She did confused 2 people mid game despite most of them knowing for sure pip was a spy.m
You're definitely right. I think the rules are fine. There's really nothing that needs changed in terms of game functionality.
My only personal problem is that in terms of fun you create situations where the obvious spy becomes a sort of social pariah. It's fun to know who the spy is, and it's fun to try and trick your friends, but I can't imagine it's fun to be stuck in a situation where no matter what you say or how much you say it your friends try to completely ignore you for a half hour.

The other gameplays I have seen shows the same problem.
It's not easy (as Matt said), but, If you have the confidence, you can still fully participate even if someone knows you are a spy. Just because you know someone knows, doesn't mean you should lose confidence. The other people don't know if they can trust the person that knows you're a spy.
The only person, other than Merlin, who could have known for sure that Pip was a spy was Quinns. Quinns wasn't a spy, he had seen Brendan's card and knew he wasn't a spy either. So Quinns knew that Pip was a spy because quest 2, that Pip, Brendan and Quinns had been on, failed. Quinns then outed Pip as a spy. But the others don't know whether or not Quinns is a spy; they don't know if they can trust him. So it's then up to Pip to convince everyone that Quinns, and maybe Brendan are spies. From the other players perspectives, the spy could have been any of those three. They have no reason to trust Quinns more than Pip, or Pip less than Quinns. But... you do have to act like you haven't just been outed. Not easy at all.
