In his younger days, hes overwelming guys in the paint wit 1 little fake or jabstep would be enough for a defender to bite on it & he can counter by just jumping over u wit an offbalence shot shot off the glass like Duncan. Even when he got the ball in the post, didn't really need fancy footwork, wit his athleticism he could just drive middle or spin baseline

Yes, his shooting form developed considerably in the nba but reverse pivots, dream shakes and shimmies, drop stepping (no one could drop step on a dime off a turnaround feint like MJ until Kobe emulated it in his later years), one dribble pullups, using frames in the low block...he already had a fundamental handle on these techniques in his rookie nba season. His post game footwork and IQ was unmatched as a guard.
He had a nasty crossovers right plus he had those jump through the legs dribbles. He also had a behind the back wrap around crossover to to avoid double team traps or split them.

There were plenty of times his turnarounds were blocked, by Kobe, Tracy McGrady... usually when they're on the leaning forward motion, when MJ didn't apply feeling the defense with his knee and without a little push back before turning around. But 98.7% it was successful.

That's what I love about Jordan's game, his post moves/fade away and his post moves up-and-under how he scored. Video is 8 mins long and he scored in different ways using the same move from different angles of shot selections and footwork. His game was just artwork
Not just his post ups. The way he read the game in every aspect of it, defense, rebounding, assists, etc. He wasn't as athletic then but he was always on the right spots to grab rebounds, it was amazing to watch. Something every basketball student should study.

Jordan had the best body control, and footwork, of any shooting guard I've ever seen. His fade away was so "lethally accurate" because of his ability to turn (and jump) with enough height to fade, and still have enough strength in his wrists to shoot the ball in proper form. The 🐐
One of the reasons mj was so accurate on his postup turnarounds (he's just a shade under 50%) was that his shooting wrist was VERY strong. So he could jump out of the gym to get separation with his fade, but he would still have very good control over his shot when he flicked his wrist. This actually doesn't get talked about a lot. The reason a lot of other perimeter players struggle a lot more fg-wise when they try to shoot a fadeaway is because they have to use their arms a lot more, lessening the amount of touch and control.

I am a diehard MJ fan - this is the best MJ highlight video that I have ever seen - the mastery of the craft, the footwork, the head fakes, ball fakes, putting that body on the defender and backing them down, the finishing touch, using the left hand to create distance between the defender, using that glass, and all the other crazy sh*t he did while in mid air - you can see more confidence in his (back to the rim game) later in his career - earlier he would just post up and go up in the air and stay in the air 20 minutes until the defender has eliminated his own self out of the play, then shoot 🤣 - later on, he was backing the defender down using a lot of body contact and footwork to score - MJ23 G.O.A.T.
No one can duplicate that. Even Kobe. Because you need 1. 48 vertical. 2. Big hands WITH soft touch. 3. Ultimate body control and quickest neoreflex like a cat. 4. Footwork. It's amazing to see how MJ's low-post has evolved at 0:38 and then at 0:34. In the past, he leans more forward after the shimmy, but later through the years, he started doing the fadeaway more.

I've never in my life seen any non-center come close to being as dominate as Jordan was in the half court. A lot of the younger kids think he was "slower" because he didn't play in a high tempo offense. This video illustrates clearly why he didn't need too, and why he wouldn't want too. As much as I love a savage dunk or block, there's probably nothing prettier on a court than a well-executed mid-range fadeaway. Kids today love the three and for good reason but I still love the mid-range two, primarily because of MJ.

If you contest too early, he will fake, do a step through and lay/dunk it in. If you contest late, he will fadeaway. If you contest at the right time and play good defense, he still makes it. A defender can literally do nothing about MJ except to just hope that he misses. It’s mind-blowing.

MJ’s foot work was impeccable and he had a counter for every defensive adjustment possible for his fade-away. Simply the GOAT!
Jordan had the best body control, and footwork, of any shooting guard I've ever seen. His fade away was so "lethally accurate" because of his ability to turn (and jump) with enough height to fade, and still have enough strength in his wrists to shoot the ball in proper form. The 🐐

One of the reasons mj was so accurate on his postup turnarounds (he's just a shade under 50%) was that his shooting wrist was VERY strong. So he could jump out of the gym to get separation with his fade, but he would still have very good control over his shot when he flicked his wrist. This actually doesn't get talked about a lot.
The reason a lot of other perimeter players struggle a lot more fg-wise when they try to shoot a fadeaway is because they have to use their arms a lot more, lessening the amount of touch and control.
Players with huge hands have a transcendent advantage in basketball

MJ was such an efficient scorer due to him mastering all the fundamentals of basketball. No wasted dribbling or moves which along with his superb athleticism then you have the GOAT. Kids these days want to do all kinds of dribbling and pull up for a 3pt only lol while lacking so much fundamentals of the game. Majority can't even shoot mid range jumpers.

You’re 100% correct. Use to be on a basketball court the fastest way to move the ball was passing to a teammate. Now players are way more likely to hold onto the ball for one on one match ups on a spread floor. Zero fundamentals.

I am a diehard MJ fan - this is the best MJ highlight video that I have ever seen - the mastery of the craft, the footwork, the head fakes, ball fakes, putting that body on the defender and backing them down, the finishing touch, using the left hand to create distance between the defender, using that glass, and all the other crazy sh*t he did while in mid air - you can see more confidence in his (back to the rim game) later in his career - earlier he would just post up and go up in the air and stay in the air 20 minutes until the defender has eliminated his own self out of the play, then shoot 🤣 - later on, he was backing the defender down using a lot of body contact and footwork to score - MJ23 G.O.A.T.

Kobe was way better shooter than jordan, if kobe made that his staple it would have been easy for him. Kobe used to use it but it wasn't his "go to". Kobe used everything in Jordan's arsenal, Jordan even said Kobe is the only person he thinks can beat him one on one because he knows all his moves. Phil said Kobe is a better shooter and stats even prove it. Jordan had maybe 1/2 step on kobe on everything besides shooting in their primes.

Why can't ppl appreciate Kobe without trying to put him on the same pedestal as MJ. They should redo the top 10 all time and label Jordan in a whole different grade all by himself. I like guys like LBJ, but majorities of LBJ's highlights are clearpath lane drives overpowering weaker defenders and mostly coming off a screen in the halfcourt set. Add the threes to that lately, now that is Lebron on the halfcourt set. He improved a bit on the post because of his size, but not yet on the level of MJ and Olajuwon. The closest I've seen mastering the up and under, head and shoulder fake and with a phenomenal footwork like MJ and The Dream was Kobe.
Thats correct i believe of lebron was drafted to bad team in the west he would be not far from mj. I say this bc without the easy path to the finals he wouldnt have that horrendous finals record. Lebron didn't exactly work on his post moves and jump shots until his 2nd stint with the CAVS.. this is exactly why he was exploited by DAL and SA's defense and dared him to shoot.. having said that, LBJ is way more efficient in his scoring now compared to 10 yrs ago..

Jordan's post game was poetry in motion, especially in his latter years with the Bulls.
It's amazing to see how MJ's low-post has evolved at 0:38 and then at 0:34. In the past, he leans more forward after the shimmy, but later through the years, he started doing the fadeaway more.

I've never in my life seen any non-center come close to being as dominate as Jordan was in the half court. A lot of the younger kids think he was "slower" because he didn't play in a high tempo offense. This video illustrates clearly why he didn't need too, and why he wouldn't want too. He saved that energy for defense.

38 years old from Chicago. I don't care what anybody says there have been great players post Jordan but this guy was something else. What separated him was his will. Jordan, Magic, Bird are for me the holy trinity of basketball.
As much as I love a savage dunk or block, there's probably nothing prettier on a court than a well-executed mid-range fadeaway. Kids today love the three and for good reason but I still love the mid-range two, primarily because of MJ.

If you contest too early, he will fake, do a step through and lay/dunk it in. If you contest late, he will fadeaway. If you contest at the right time and play good defense, he still makes it. A defender can literally do nothing about MJ except to just hope that he misses. It’s mind-blowing.
