Kobe's footwork was more complex than Mike's. Mike's footwork was as basic as it gets. Both were equally effective. But I think Mike's combined strength and basic footwork in the post is more superior than Kobe's.
And you can even link it to their games: Mike appears to post more than Kobe as you put it, so he developed to be more proficient.
