Step back into time via re-enactment at Fort Michilimackinac with it's maritime museum, history of shipwrecks, the lighthouse, the lighthouse keepers cottage, the preservation of yesteryear is something to see & enjoy. Seeing the cargo boat sailing under the bridge was neat! What a nice little town, so peaceful, beautiful.
Just would like to say thank you. I live in Michigan and do not get around the best anymore. Thank you for showing these different places was at them a long time ago at least 40 years.
We used to have a cabin in the U.P. I hope you are going up to the locks in Sault Ste. Marie. The ships going thru the locks are amazing. Really enjoy all of your videos
Used to come down from Canada (Sault Ste. Marie) and visit the old fort back in the '70s (1970s !) ....Made a great day trip to visit this area...All built up now, but the fort is still the same and well maintained.....thanks, good memories of my younger life....You should check out Tahquamenon Falls, in Upper Michigan some day....
So enjoying the wonderful tour of Michigan. Even tho it's my birth state, I've mostly seen only a few areas during summer visits as a kid around where relatives lived, down near Detroit. Thanks so much for your wonderful views & narration. It's quite a scenic state & the history is fascinating.
I was a full-time RV here for 10 years - West of the Mississippi. This summer trip that you’ve taken has open my eyes to all the things I missed. I would like to do the trip sometime. Thank you!
Now your in my area. My wife and I met you at the quartsite AZ about 3 years ago at the welcome sign down there. It was such a pleasure to meet you. We live about 2 hours south of Mackinaw city, on the Lake Huron side. Happy travels Russ. Stay safe.
Just have to navigate older computer..went to Robert Palmer's Simply Irresistible... then allowed me to watch your video! Old stomping grounds must have some spirited past.
You must be exhausted! I'm happy the weather is cooperating! There's alot of waterfalls in the U.P. around Munising & Marquette. Pictures Rocks should be on your itinerary!! :)
Looking forward to the next video of the U P. They do know how to take care of tourists in Michigan. They realize how much revenue it brings in to the states business. Other states could learn from Michigan
Whitefish Point shipwreck museum is well worth the drive. BTW people in the lower peninsula are know as trolls because we live under the bridge. The top of Michigan is Copper Harbor lol.
I had no idea Michigan was so pretty! Makes me want to take a trip there sometime. When is a better time (with decent weather) to visit? That's not so crowded. When is your "shoulder" season for good camping? We are empty nesters and retired... Thanks for the mini tour. Can't wait to cross that HUGE bridge.

Hey Russ: if you are going through Iron Mountain on Route 2 and need a pizza, stop at Main Street Pizza...excellent. Also there is a terrific, new Mexican restaurant in town...as anything is better than Taco Bell...lol.
WE camped on this ground before the fort bought it and stopped campers. Only tent campers were allowed. In the winter this area freezes and ice piles way high. There are plenty of pics on computer of the winters. All of our KOA's are excellent , clean and inexspensive compared to state parks. You can take tours of the bridge underneath or at the top to change a light. Not for me. That is a bread oven.
The French spelling is Mackinac but it is pronounced Mackinaw. The French were the first white men in the area in 1634. They later founded a mission for the Native Americans on Mackinac Island in 1670. Also, the bridge is 5 miles long.
@@kurtguelde9081 Thanks for the info, Kurt. The squirrels we have here back East (New York City-metropolitan area) all have nice, bushy tails, and they tend to hop more when on the ground rather than scamper the way that critter did.
I think he said in an earlier video that he previously worked in construction , early starts to the day become an ingrained habit ( similar to dairy farmers ) It is the best time of the day when it's hot !
I visited this fort many years ago, I was looking to see what had changed. I only got a brief tour from this video. The people who are dressed in historic uniform are guides. If you ask them to give you a tour, or join a scheduled tour, you can make a much more informative video. This style of video is what I call "short attention span theater".
The fort was very interesting. Thanks!
Enjoyed it Russ, Thanks!!
Too bad you don’t have time to visit Mackinaw Island. A truly amazing place! I live in AZ now but you’re making me homesick for Michigan! 👍🏽
A visit to the island could really show the unreal beauty of this place.

I can remember as a kid taking a boat across before the bridge was finished .
Ooooooo someone's dating themselves!🤭😛💞

Love that garden outside of that building in the fort great video. I would not canoe on that Lake! Ha
Thank you for this video...beautiful country.....
We are hopefully planning a trip up that area late next spring :-)Thanks for pointing out some interesting spots!
Awesome tour of that fort! Loved it!
Hi there Russ this is Larry from Southern Michigan saying that that is Pronounced Mackinaw not Mackinac lol 😀
HI Russ. Wonderful videos from Michigan,Thanks for sharing.
Once you get over the bridge into St Ignace or further North you should try the epitome of Yooper food the Pasty.
Yum.
Top Video Quality…. Thanks Russ and be well 👻👻👻
One of the best videos of the last 3 years, Russ. Thanks!
Hey Russ!
We did a RV Trip there in 2012.
We had a blast.
How nice that was. That was a great tour. Love that town, and museum. Ty. 😊👍
I was a full-time RV here for 10 years - West of the Mississippi. This summer trip that you’ve taken has open my eyes to all the things I missed. I would like to do the trip sometime. Thank you!
I like the wide roads. Nice place to visit during the summer months. Wouldn't want to be there in Winter. I had my share of shoveling snow!
Of all the places i've "been" with you. This is absolutely the coolest yet Thanks.
Great tour! Thanks Russ.
Thank you I've always wanted to go there!!! Safe travels!!
My son and myself have camped at the same KOA as you. Nice campground

I was there 5 summers ago, first time there, and fell in love with the area. If I had family anywhere near the UP, I would have moved there.
Thanks for today look around. 👍👍
I would be white knuckling if I crossed that bridge 🌉 the one in San Diego i refuse to cross... Cool fort
Awesome video of MackiNAW
Check it out...Mike Rowe did a Dirty Jobs episode on the maintenance of the Mackinac Bridge.
Russ, it's pronounced Mackinaw!😁💞sorry couldn't help myself, I'm from Michigan!🤭
THANKS for Sharing!
Also if your going up to Sault Ste Marie that pronunciation would be soo saint marie
Good place to visit sir.njoyed the video keep njoying the journey sir❤❤❤👌👌👌👍👍👍
Very cool, I love all the history and museums you tour. I'd love to see you check out some ghost town out west, Wyoming, Montana, and SD.
1st time we came, we had to ferry over to the UP. Next time we drove over the bridge. 1967.
Just have to navigate older computer..went to Robert Palmer's Simply Irresistible... then allowed me to watch your video! Old stomping grounds must have some spirited past.

I have been parasailing in Mexico about forty years ago. Haha
This was a great day of sightseeing !
Great video
The Bridge can close for long periods in the winter, or when super windy

Say rush when you get to the UP be sure to try out what they call a pasty they are very good very well known in the UP
You went to Mackinac City but not Mackinac Island? That's like going to the gates of Disney World only to turn back before entering the park. lol
How early is it ?
The French spelling is Mackinac but it is pronounced Mackinaw. The French were the first white men in the area in 1634. They later founded a mission for the Native Americans on Mackinac Island in 1670. Also, the bridge is 5 miles long.

I think those teepee's were primitive RV's. They were snowbirds.😁
Take care Russ. The covid variant is gaining steam.
Why don’t you read the plaques on the building so you know what you’re looking at?
It is not pronounced Mackinak, it is Mackinaw, just like the city, and the island and the bridge! Mackinac is the French spelling.
I believe it’s pronounced Mackinaw
The Brits Built the Fort in the 1700"s and it was destroyed by ...????
It is pronounced Mackinaw regardless of the spelling.
bridge walk,laber day
AND ZERO FUCKS ARE GIVEN,...
I have been to the island many times and never had to wait 3 hours to get a ferry. It is all pronounced Mackinaw. Aw. Not ac
What was that rodent at the "pizza" oven, Russ? Didn't look like a chipmunk, and kinda big to be a mouse. A rat?
it's a 13-lined ground squirrel . Native species .
