The old girl made 30 round trips to Normandy, many on D Day and other landings to liberate Sicily. It was also used locally in Michigan as a merchant ferry.

This video is brilliant - I live in a village in Ballyholme in Northern Ireland where this ship practiced beach landings before moving on to France. There's a couple of old photos of the ship on Ballyholme Beach that I walk on every day, it's surreal to imagine her on the beach and all the crew etc that visited too. A fascinating history and story. Thanks for the upload, would love to visit it myself one day.

They used to have Harbor days in Oceanside during the 4th of July weekend back in around 69-70. My friends and I rode our bicycles down to the Harbor where they were having tours of a LST outside the harbor, we waited inline on a dock and got into a Higgins boat and went out to it, was lots of fun.

🙋‍♀️Hello Russ! Muskeegan looks like a nice area. Enjoyed touring the USS LST 393. You sure wouldn't want to roll over in your sleep. Everything's so narrow. I couldn't imagine what that would be like with no air conditioning on that ship. You know it had to get hot. I agree it was a beautiful blue sky today. Looking forward to the beach. 👍

USS Cod (submarine ) is typically on Lake Erie in Cleveland but it's being refurbished in Erie Pennsylvania. I have visited the Yorktown near Charleston. I am in awe of the ship since it was heavily damaged in Coral Sea, Midway and was in a few decisive battles besides those. Carriers typically have about 6,000 sailor's for our current fleet.

If you go back to the Vietnam section, there is a mannequin sitting with his hands between his legs, and the name patch is BEEMAN. That would be my grandpas uniform, my grandma keeps up on everything in the Vietnam section of the ship. Grandpa is still here too which is great as well.

Was on several LST and never liked any of them---we called them rock and roll and most got sea sick before the landing--one landing on KAUAI HAWAII the captain didn't come in fast enough and when they opened the doors we were in 5 feet of water---not good for the rifles but we made the best of it----

Being from the UK my geography of the US isn't that great, so please excuse me....Can anyone tell me how that ship got into Lake Michigan as I thought that those lakes are landlocked except a passage through Niagra Falls! Yes, you come up the St Lawrence river, through the St Lawrence seaway, which puts you into Lake Ontario. Then the Welland canal by passes the Niagra falls, which puts you into Lake Erie. And at that point you can go anywhere into Lake Huron or Lake Michigan.

Russ, great museum, Always enjoy your content. That being said, do you think you could refrain from calling a Navy ship "a thing"? I couldn't count the number of times you said This thing is big...or this thing is hot.
Ships are alive to sailors. We call them she, her, old battle babes, war babes etc. It sounded condescending. My wife and I are both US Navy veterans. There's no mess hall on a ship. There's no bathroom, there are no stairs. There are doors but no walls. My wife and I spit out our coffee a dozen times. You could re-narrate the whole video and it wouldn't make me sad. I'd even help you. Just my .02 worth and We really do appreciate your content.

You will catered to the few that can afford it. Like you said John about the campground that canceled you…”just to make the extra bucks”.
