  • No Man’s Sky Next basically reinvents the game, so why not try our tips and tricks to survive the vastness of space. This No Mans Sky Next guide reveals how to make easy money, how to buy cheap ships and why you should farm alien eggs. Because that can’t go wrong, right?
    While you're here, why not subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun? Just click here: bit.ly/2FuyF1D
    These are the tips and tricks that have been making No Man’s Sky Next more fun to play - a more regular supply of money lets you start playing with better ships, and there’s a good trick for trading one heap of junk for something shiny and new. The Next update also introduces a fleet of frigates that you send out from your freighter, so I’ll explain how you get a free freighter to start building your galactic empire. Please use it for good, not evil.
    I’ve included a couple of quality of life tweaks, including the secret to faster jetpack travel, where to buy more inventory spaces (it’s hidden in plain sight) and how to change the camera view on PC - because it’s hidden in a weird place. I also talk a tiny bit about the need to build a portable save point and why you should carry your portable devices with you.
    I should note that these tips and tricks are aimed at people who have played through the early tutorials - doing that unlocks some essential tech and blueprints, letting you focus on enjoying the wider universe. If you have suggestions of your own No Man’s Sky Next tips and tricks, please share them in the comments. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
    Quick disclaimer: Rock Paper Shotgun’s senior editor Alec Meer worked on the original release of No Man’s Sky, but has not been involved in subsequent updates. He was not involved in the making of this video - imagine the secrets he could have shared, though.

      A better way to farm whispering eggs is to have a friend in a spaceship shoot them from the ship while you are on the ground collecting, when done like this it doesn't spawn the xenomorph things

      I saw another video where they used the terrain manipulator to dig underneath eggs to avoid the biological horrors. The eggs would then fall into the tunnel for you to collect. Just make sure to mark the eggs so you know where to tunnel to, and not to stay too close to the surface or leave to wide of the hole on the surface as the creatures will be able to jump in and attack you.

    • @NWOrpheus
      @NWOrpheus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If nobody has said so before, you can actually stack those S module upgrades for your scanner. The increase additively, not multiplicatively, but it's still a significant upgrade when you get 3-4 of them. I get about 120k for a normal plant now and I forget how much for a normal creature.

    • @babybirdhome
      @babybirdhome 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terris Harned you don't get a benefit from stacking that many. Three of a type is the maximum you can benefit from, after that they just take up a slot. But you do get a bonus by stacking the same type next to each other instead of separated from each other or diagonally to each other.

    • @zool201975
      @zool201975 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "you don't get a benefit from stacking that many"
      *heh depends on the modules. with scanners you can get like 7-8 k % extra creds for plants and or animals. meaning an animal can almost give half a million creds if it is categorized as very rare plants average at 70-80 k per scan on average with 3 s class scanner mods which would cost roughly 1800-2100 nanyte clusters so in the case of the scanner modules it stacks quite a lot with just 3*

    • @NWOrpheus
      @NWOrpheus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a point where adding more does nothing at all though, and in fact makes all of the matching modules not work.

    If you make a home base at an Abandoned Building and build a simple 4-walled room around the egg clusters you can farm the Larval Cores for +/- 4-8 million per run. The walls prevent the Abominations from getting you and you can farm at your leisure. When you make the trip to a space station and return the eggs will have respawned inside your farm boxes and you can repeat the process ad infinitum

      Even better (I got this from Cougarific) if you spawn the monsters on one side of the ship, you can hop over to the other side loot non-stop without any more spawning. There seems to be only one group and it takes a while before they notice you. He got 10 eggs before they twigged.

      I used the transformation tool to clear all the dirt immediately under the eggs, then create a central hole for you to fall down into (like a funnel). Then it helps to switch to first person view, look up and shoot the eggs. The balls will roll down into your hole due to the funnel shape for you to collect, meanwhile the aliens are just roaming around on the surface doing no harm... If you want to get really creative, create underground tunnels to each of your other funnel holes. And then every time you return, hop down one hole and travel between the holes safely in your tunnel system. $$$$$

    Something thats helped me, once you jump to three different systems youll be able to use the portal in the space station to warp to any station youve discovered and all your bases. You can also buy the portal blueprint to create your own portal to make which allows for basically fast travel from your base to the space station.

    Thanks, Matthew. Useful stuff. My tip after playing for a few hours yesterday is that you can leave the refiner while it is running - it took me quite some time to figure this out. While it is running you can leave and go gather more stiff like H2 or C, then as soon as it is done the processing noise will stop, and you can meander over and compress your next batch of carbon, etc.

    Upgrades that you buy with nanites can stack. So 2 "S" rank scanners get you about 200k per animal scanned. ALSO, if you find a station that sells an upgrade you want more than one of, buy the one upgrade and leave the station. Then find a save point, such as a trading post, then go back to the stations inventory will be restocked.

      I tried doing terrain manipulation as a means of controlling the creatures. I noticed the creatures were hesitant to go into ground that had been taken away, similar to a moat. Then I tried eliminating all land around the base, but they would come thru the metal floor of the exterior base. So then I assumed it was the ground beneath. So I took away all that ground so the base was hovering. But....they still came up and harrass me. So...that doesn't work.

    It's cheaper to upgrade the Cargo slots of your exo-suit using drop pods, and buy Technology and Inventory slots on Space Stations. Cargo slots cost ten times as much as Inventory slots and fifty times as much as Technology slots. I don't think it's worth it for twice the inventory capacity.

    • @rockpapershot
      @rockpapershot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      This is a really good shout - the pricing of them hadn't factored into my thinking. I was more trying to draw attention to the benefits of Cargo slots, which I'd overlooked for my first few hours with the game. But you're right - using drop pod upgrades for cargo is more efficient way of doing it. Thanks for pointing it out.

      I also just figured out a way to get "inexpensive" technology modules. Buy C-class upgrades and install them. Dismantling some of them will give you technology modules. Much cheaper than spending sixty thousand units.

    • @subsume7904
      @subsume7904 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sheldon Jones 400 nanites is not cheaper than 60k units, you can scan 1 creature with an upgraded scanner and get 100k units, takes 2 freighter missions to get over 400 nanites. Both easy but scanning 1 creature is much easier. 60k is like $5 in the game.

    • @ShelJones
      @ShelJones 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may be have a point, because I didn't have an upgraded scanner at the time when I left that comment. My scans were not getting me that much units. I still think it depends on whether you have more units or more nanites. Early in the game I found it easier to collect nanites by uploading scans, finding them in space stations and shelters, or doing space station missions. If I needed units to buy ships or inventory slots, I'd be reluctant to spend them on tech modules when there was another way to acquire them. It's simple, when you start to make/have more units, you become more willing to spend them.

    You do not need to "make an offer on the lifeform's starship" or even talk to the pilot to view its class and inventory slots. Use the Analysis visor (F by default on PC) to quickly see their type, class and inventory slots without wasting time to go through the conversation with the pilot.
    On the left hand side, you will see a "Class" line looking like "Fighter // A 19+4". Understand this: Type Fighter, Class A, 19 inventory slots + 4 Tech slots.
    Works also with freighters. As soon as you get down from your ship use your visor on the ceiling to see the class and inventory of the freighter. No need to talk to the captain for this.

      Yeah, you can summon your ship and use it as a save point but that uses up launch thruster fuel. Since you have to craft launch thruster fuel now, it saves time and resources to keep a reusable save point in your inventory.

    • @ProlificPianist
      @ProlificPianist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Nich Hustler If you okay in survival/permadeath, you'll understand the value of having two active save slots instead of one. Basically:
      You only have two save slots. One being manual save, the other being auto. Manual save triggers from outpost beacons and the portable save item he showed in the video, and you can save/overwrite the save whenever you want. Auto save only applies to exiting your ship and getting killed.
      It's hard to explain the realistic value of the double save slot. But once you play in the harder modes, it is quite literally a life saver (pun intended).

      Joshua W
      Having the manuel saves are especially useful for accidents.
      Occasionally stuff doesnt load right you get out of your ship it saves and...
      Your stuck in a wall with no way out then you realize your ship is also stuck in the wall and you cant get in it.
      So you literally saved getting stuck in a wall.

    Very good tips! Would you mind doing a video on Freighter management? Making it your base and doing missions with it? I'm still figuring out Freighter management myself, but if I get my head around it in the couple of days I might post up something extra. My fleet is tiny at the moment, so I have no wisdom to share!

    • @dkyzar
      @dkyzar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries.. it seems pretty straight forward now that I have a bigger fleet. I try and only go for B Class min and you just want to make sure your fleet star rating matches or is better than the mission star rating you assign it to. I also noticed that my free freighter is an S class! Bad news, it's a Centrifigul type, so it doesn't have a huge amount of space like the others. The layout is a bit different as well.

      Yeah, Freighters are the purple icon when they warp in if you want to upgrade your freighter. Green icons are frigates for your fleet. Fly close and it will prompt for comms. You can hire them for your fleet.

    As previous comments have mentioned, great tips! I only just started up again after NEXT and here is my personal recommendation in the literally first few minutes of the game to make money: get space-flight as soon as possible, mine asteroids for a few minutes, and then a bounty pirate ship will appear and it will have a minimum bounty of 100k units. They'll spawn every few minutes and are easy to kill with the default weapons. Your shield will (probably) regenerate before the next one as long you didn't take full damage. Get a few hundred thousand and you'll be set to buy the stuff for the upgrades needed later on that make money better.

    I find that being a selective pack rat helps. When on a planet, grab any luxury resource available, also stock up on any major deposits you find. The new refinery is great for compressing those resources into better more efficient ones and you can deploy that sucker almost anywhere.
    Last trick is to mine asteroids, you can get a surprising amount and variety of resources by delaying your in system trip for a 3 minute target practice/mining session.

    Little Tip on the Larval Core farming. If you build a base computer near the site, you can build walls around each of the cluster, the tighter the walls to the cluster the better so long as not so close to cut off some cluster. Most will allow you to use only 4 walls to encase them all. THEN if you get in there (dont bother with the floor) and you do this for all the clusters, you can fly to each one and farm them in peace since the horrors won't be able to attack you. If they spawn inside, they will phase through the wall out, but cant come back in. This has another benefit in that if you have a base there, you can teleport back to that spot with the space stations. And you can essentially game hop by joining random games to farm the clusters over and over. Haven't tested yet, but you will likely have to build some walls each time you do this, so bring some carbon with you. But your base comp will still be there. Hope this helps if waiting on the swarms to despawn was annoying you.

      VanQ76 I promise you you’re practically wasting your time compared to what you can get from the swarm eggs. Build a tiny hut around each egg stash and you can infinitely farm them without being attacked. And if you don’t wanna bother with the building, just terraform the nests underneath and you’ll break the nest making it so monsters don’t spawn but you still get the eggs. In about 10 minutes you could easily have 5 mill if you’re farming them.

    If you find a monolith, choose "learn secrets of the past". You'll be taken to an area where you can find ancient keys, and then use them for a box that will contain something VERY valuable.
    Edit: I'm sorry for being inaccurate. But I believe you'll need the terrain manipulator, if not the terrain manipulator, then it will be the advanced mining lazer. But these are things you need anyway. Have fun gaming :)

    • @lonestarr1490

      I found a book of poems that sold for 400k.
      You not always need the terrain manipulator, but sometimes it's needed. So it's better to have one installed.
      Oh, and maybe you should include a warning about those shiny balls (Gravitino balls) frequently lying around on such locations. At least until one has found all the keys and opened the crate. Because picking up one of these light bulbs will trigger the sentinels to attack - even if there are none of them nearby.

    Another option for the Whispering Eggs is to dig a tunnel below the "batch" with the Terrain Manipulator and then a vertical shaft directly under it. Hit the eggs with your weapon of choice and collect the larval cores as they drop, the xenos can't reach you either (odd given that they're subterranean). I call it the Great Eggscape method (soz :P)

At the relic site where they ask if you want to learn a word or knowledge of the past. Select the "past" option, then fly to that site. use your tool to dig up 3 hidden keys and then open the treasure (usually buried). Last night I found a single item worth 7 million. Some are buried deep so bring supplies to refill your tool multiple times.

    the rare S-class exotic ships spawn in blue universes with "adequate" resources the most ... fly to a trade station , or inside a neighboring freighter and watch the ships fly in and out ...you dont have to speak to ships to see the rank just scan it with your scanner it will say something like B-44+8 meaning B class ship with 44 slots and 8 tech slots ....now wait till you find S-class ships ....S class have fewer storage boxes but way higher base stats ... and the rare S-class exotics they added in atlas patch have the best stats and lowest spawn rates

    Just was amazed to get my free freighter before taking my break and seeing this video. BTW space combat in this game is terrible, especially when compare to Elite D. I really had no idea what I was shooting or how to properly manage my speed, shields or weapons, or even how to read the HUD to track enemies. It was just follow the red arrow and hope I hit something. If there are any good training videos for this I am willing to be convinced otherwise.
    Note that when you upgrade the exosuit in the space station as opposed to a pod you have to pay, and cargo spots are more expensive than regular spots. I would upgrade the cargo at the "free" pods but do regular at the stations.

Then shoot as much as possible until the ship flies past you again and repeat. Still a bad system, but it at least made me really win every fight I've had since the first couple I had to run from.

    Here's a pro-tip: Be sure to explore any ancient ruins you find. At minimum, you'll find some knowledge stones or a text encounter that reward words and commodities and at best have Ancient Keys hidden around. Some keys are above ground but others are below ground, requiring use of the terrain manipulator to dig them out. The keys are good to sell themselves but there should also be a chest buried nearby that you can unlock with the keys. The chest are VERY lucrative as they are reported to drop commodities worth anywhere from 100K to 11 million (according to the No Man's Sky wiki). I've only found one chest so far and got a commodity worth 9 million (before system economy price fluctuation). In that instance there was more keys than I needed so I can either hold onto them for another chest or sell them. Crashed freighters are also good but require you to craft stuff to unlock their cargo boxes and those cargo boxes give you rads on opening.

    VERY helpful video. One small TIP about the whispering eggs though, if you find a building with those whispering eggs at both sides of the building, first shoot one egg on one side when standing on the roof and hop off at the other side. The horror aliens will stay at the other side while you farm the eggs on the opposite side. You will have to repeat this multiple times as like you said, they will dive underground after some time. You will have to shoot the remaining aliens and then repeat the process. It go's a lot faster and less change to die ;)

    if you stand on top of one egg, it's high enough that the horrors wont attack you, so you can get all the eggs in one cluster except the one you're standing on rather then doing one at a time. They can push you off while scampering about to begin with so be ready to re-situate yourself if it happens.
    The melee boost jump sadly was taken away from us, now if you try doing it, you end up stopping, or if you get it to work you aren't moving any faster then if you just sprinted then jumped.
    It's best to use the space station suit upgrades for your general inventory and the drop pods for cargo as the drop pods don't cost you units to upgrade. The cargo upgrades go up a lot higher and faster then the general. Cargo however caps at 1 million units after like slot 30 or something. Every plant usually has 2 to 3 drop pods, and to find them fast, the way I did it was find one any way you find one, then after you get your upgrade, plop down the signal booster, and scan just for buildings nearby. Every time it always found another drop pod. Sometimes it found a 3rd one. However on most planets it will find a 3rd, but it will be the first one you were at.still, 2 per planet is a lot of cargo slots for not so much materials.

    Scanner tip was huge, had no idea that it increased unit gain THAT much. Making a cool million units on each planet just scanning plants and animals.

    Rock Paper Shotgun Big Tip to add re upgrading ships! I found that if I sit at a busy 7 ship surface port, you can tell every Ships Type, Slots, and Tech slots by looking at the ship thru the Visor! Shows like "A 28+8"! Find one you like, but want to "hold it" a while? Stand on top and scan for a better ship, until you decide - the ship will never move while you're on top, and you can buy at any time! Works great! I passed on a BEAUTIFUL exotic yesterday, bc it had so few slots. Great aide to selling those broken down ships you scavenge from Distress Beacons... Enjoy!

    Great video. One thing i found was on the first space station you visit there is a guy on the far right of all the merchants who will ask you to give him your mining tool. If you do he will give you a better one back.

    I've got about 80 hours in this so far and i can point a few things in the video:
    1 with the whispering eggs be sure to go around and damage each egg until its close to breaking, after that save, then start going around to quickly break as many of them till your shield goes down.
    After that go inside or on top of the building to recharge and repeat.
    This way it takes four times as less and the risk is smaller .
    2. Best way to make money is to go around manufacturing plants( find them with your beacon and navigation data).
    Keep going until you get a blueprint for superconductors, those sell for 1,5 mil each.
    Building them is easy, craft or buy semiconductors and get the other material by raiding planetary depos with your ship( drones cant attack your ship, just dont go in space)
    I can make 40-50 mil a hour easy.

    Just a handy trick for beginners, choose one of the 3 species to be the one that you're agressive towards. For example, I have high standings with the Gek and Korvax, but in Vykeen systems I can attack all of the fleets I want, and get loads of money that way.

    Exocraft are also ideal for harvesting Whispering Eggs, since the horrors stop chasing you the moment you hop in. My exocraft really came in handy when I found a barren desert planet with nothing but whispering eggs scattered about, and constant firestorms.

    This newest update literally increased the worth of this game 10-fold..... if they continue to add things like this, this could become one of the best games ever created. I’ve never played a game where exploration is so vast and endless while also ensuring content along the way. I never get tired of going to a new system and being awestruck by the entirely new environments.

    Bonus tip in continuation of the second point made, when using a super jump (melee into a jump) and you land into deep enough water (any amount of water that triggers the swim animation) you keep all the momentum so long as you move directly forward effectively a super swim, handy for getting across that large body of water with out wasting that precious rocket fuel.

    I save scummed a minor settlement and the gun panel went from a 13 slot multitool to a 23 slot that i bought, i believe for around 3 mill. Took a few tries, didnt seem like its working at first. Also i try to get at least 2 or even 3 larva core eggs at once. Save after the swarm subsiding message in case you mess up your next gathering, by an egg falling through the ground or you getting your butt killed.

    One tip I picked up for inventory management, never carry more than one stack of any resource unless you plan on selling it or using it very soon. Also, do keep a stack of the basic resources with you, including things made in the refinery and top them up when necessary. That way you always have the resources handy when you need them instead of always having to go on a resource hunt every time you discover something interesting.

    An abandoned building holds around 5 million units worth of larval cores. The best way I’ve found to farm them is to lower the health of 1 cluster of eggs while waiting for the swarm to subside so it only takes a second to break. I also grab 2 cores at a time and then go over to the farthest cluster from that one and start grabbing those cores until the monstrosities realize I’m over there. I have gotten 15 cores in a single wave doing this.

    Quick tip for the free freighters: if you don't like that the freighter you just saved only has a certain number of slots / looks ugly / is low in its letter class / whatever, you can keep warping to new systems in hopes of finding a better frieghter to save elsewhere. You don't have to take the first freighter you save.
    I got lucky on my first try and saved an A class 34 slot freighter. But I have heard of less fortunate souls using this tip to find themselves better freighters :)
