  • I just purchased a my first Lithium Ion battery and perform a little experiment to see how long it will power my Humminbird Helix unit that I use on the ice. I should have mentioned in the video that this was the 15 Amp Hour battery.
Amazingly, they’re not on Amazon at this time, but definitely check ‘em out!

I have been running my Helix 9 on a dakota lithium and it has worked great. I really like the USB options on this one. Thank you for putting this video together!

      Ooh, a 9? So jealous...

@@northstarangling2953 its an old 9, no ice fishing mode update and not si or di. It was rather cheap but works great with the ipilot link on the minkota trolling motor. I set it up with a hummingbird Ice ducer and I was ver impressed. Has a nice zoom option that you can move around. I am just trying to make the most of whatever I got.

Hey, do you ever get that “transducer not connected” message with your ice ‘ducer?

@@northstarangling2953 yes! First thing I did is hide the simulator mode in the settings. Then I would make sure to start it through the normal setting. I still had it happen once or twice after that but was able to restart and get it going.

Will definitely give that a try!

One of these years I’ll have to get a lithium for my helix, the helix really drains regular batteries. Nice vid! I can usually get about 10-12 hrs on the lowest brightness but 4-6 on high brightness on a regular battery.

Yeah man, all year, I’ve been going out with a new regular battery and keep the screen brightness on 6 or something - as little as I could get away with. And still, maybe 6 hours. I’d had enough :)

The reason the discharge percentages differ between the two (I assume, haven't looked up data sheets to confirm) is because the hummingbird is expecting the discharge curve of a sealed lead acid battery as opposed to a stacked li-ion battery. A lead acid battery will start at a little higher voltage and lose current capacity a little before the li-ion will. But the li-ion will hang out in the middle longer. Do a google search for the discharge curves or rates of both types of batteries and you should find some relevant info. Long story short though I would expect the li-ion to last longer but be a little more expensive up front. Both should experience reduced capacity in cold climate.
Love your videos btw, exciting to see someone fishing in the twin cities and sharing their experience with other twin city folk.
