Thanks for posting easy explanation of how to set up starting point and fine tune your boost ...and important at the end don't overboost or it will lean out and damage stuff . Anyone attempting to do this should read up and see what turbo they have and what stock boost psi it's set to this is a starting point you shorten the rod to add more or lengthen it to subtract to get to desired spec thanks 😊👍

You should definitely slightly tighten the lock nut on the actuator rod. This neutralizes the stress load on the threads and minimizes wear with use. Last thing you need is the rod failing.
@@johndo2o9 technically no, but if this is too loose you'll get slow spool and if it's too tight your boost will spike when you first get on it and then taper off.

if i didnt get anything wrong, you ve increased the arm length of the actuator. but it reduces the regulated pressure. it will open the by-pass way sooner than before. you need to decrease and take the spring force so the spring activates later. this would have increase pressure but could damage inlet pipes and intercooler.
what helps is a little bike pump and compressed air into the wastegate to extend arm this makes install and removal easy when you have alot of preload on gate
Shove an air nozzle into boost actuator hose and adjust air nozzle till rod moves toward pin and clip.💨 The oxygen sensor will enriched fuel due to minor boost increase leaning fuel mix. Unless SD and not likely in turbo car🤔 Good clear video.👍
On Many Turbos the rod going back into diaphram is not locked to the phram itself so it can spin from vibrations, i would defo be tightening up the lock nut or it can spin itself during idle vibrations
If you use an external gated downpipe or you port the wastegate hole you shouldn't have an over boost issue. You have to slowly ramp up the boost and keep an eye on it.
How much boost can a stock chevrolet trax 1.4 turbo take. 1 full apin is 1 boost on a factory actuator. Can i spin 2x or 2 and a half times. I would i be pushing my limits even when i spin 1 and half to 2 x .

My wastegate arm has hella play in it like I can pull it out to max with no restriction at all. Is that normal ? It's an AGP wastegate. Maybe the spring is broken?
Play with your actuator without programming your fuel ratio, timing, and generally having a specific tune for that, and you'll wind up collecting rods and pistons from the street!!

Hey I liked the video I have a turbo'ed Nissan Juke. Had it Dyno tuned with stock wastegate control armand stock turbo, I feel like I'm loosing power or boost so I gave the actuator a clockwise turn and never felt a bit of difference.. I ordered a new wastegate control arm which is stock at 7 PSI or LB's of pressure. I bought an upgraded turbo smart control arm and never put it on because it's a 14PSI spring inside.. I was wondering if I am tuned to 15 PSI and swop out the 7psi actuator control arm for the 14 PSI TS control arm.. Will it mess up my tune or will it just add another 7 lb's of boost to the tune or car???
No...this is strictly for TR's...and you have to add fuel as you raise boost or the engine will lean out. You also have to be aware of heat/humidity as well. It's a real balancing act.

Logan it's ABOUT 1 pound of boost on the Buicks. For your application, I don't know. You have to add fuel as you increase boost, as the AF leans out as you add boost.
It’s not that your gonna necessarily hurt your turbo your going to put your car in limp mode. The mafs have a huge play in newer Vovlo’s and DOES NOT TAKE MANUALLY ADDED BOOST AT ALL. You will put your car in limp mode immediately and have to have it towed to dealership and embarrass your self which is never fun lol ~ from someone who’s been working on Volvos since 12 Years old
Buy a aftermarket adjustable waste gate actuator that has adjustable springs, the ecu will adjust the boost electronically but for example if your turbo can handle 30+psi but your wastegate actuator will only hold 15psi even tho you set your ecu to 20+psi it will only be at 15psi if boost because of your stock actuator. See the turbos limits on max psi ratings and look into upgrading the wastegate actuator or leave it completely open to get the stututu sound and then adjust your standalone accordingly.
I would guess this could be the cause of the "freak accident" at the Somerset, PA tractor pull that killed a 33 year old woman in the stands. Some guy over boosted and the organizers don't check, nor do they require a containment box. Sad.

did you disconnect the big relay on the drivers side that controls the fan? i heard it goes bad and causes the fan to run which drains the battery pretty quick haha. if you did disconnect it can you do a quick video showing exactly which relay it is and how to safely disconnect it?
When you back it off you drop the boost. Tightening it will raise it. As he said he backed it off to about 16 pounds. Then every turn to tighten it roughly increases it by 1 pound.
Hi there.. Brilliant video.. May i ask u a question if u dont mind. I have an Evo 8 and when i bought it, it already had some mods done to it.. It is rapid. It pulls hard when the turbo kicks in. But the one thing i notice is if I'm in 6th gear doing let's say 80mph and i put my accelerator most of the way down i feel like im losing boost from some where and the acceleration is patchy. I can hear like boost being released from some where? It never did this when i first bought the car. Looking at some of the receipts from previous owner i see that an upgraded actuator spring was installed. Could you shine some light on what might be the issue. It doesn't happen in 1-4th gear.. For your information i have a recirc value on it and not a dump valve..
The upgraded actuator spring is prolly the same as the adjustable actuator on the TR's...lets you run more boost...but fueling needs to be adjusted for more boost with our cars...via an adjustable chip...or an aftermarket fuel management system. A data log from a run would sure be handy. I'm wondering if the boost is getting away on it in high gear...and it's dumping excess boost pressure. Maybe the spring went soft. My best advice is to join an EVO forum, and post your question. I'm sure the guys could nail down your issue fairly quickly. Your boost will be highest in high gear...so I wouldn't go balls out till you resolve the issue. Changing head gaskets suck...lol.
Ryan Kasper (agreeing with you)I was about to say, if you’re in a Evo and doing 80 mph in 6th gear you’re at like near idle rpms, so you’re going to be basically N/A until you make it back to 3-4K rpms; that, plus the fact you’ve got such low gearing in 6th you won’t just have all the response in the world.
Actuator/puck control the boost along with adjustment I make on the rod. For bracket racing I use 23 lbs of boost on a conservative tune. Car runs right around 7 flat at 100 in the 1/8 at 23 lbs of boost...equivalent of 11 flat in the 1/4.
A bit confused, when my engine starts the rod closes the valve, so with your video your tightening the the rod to close the valve? should mine be already closes off? as I am now experiencing low boost with the code P0299 - watched so many videos and they are very conflicting. Appreciate any help!

No, it exits inside the downpipe, when the valve opens, its letting out some exhaust from the turbine housing

Micheal, there's a low and high speed fan relay. They should be fine as is. Are you having fan issues?

Rod (actuator control arm) has to be replaced by fabricating your own or purchasing one.

You wastegate valve should be closed when installing and closed basically all the time until you hit boost
