SCHOOL. And so have you probably. SURVIVE as long as you can. It started not too long ago but you get the jist of how annoying it is to juggle editing, voicing drawing, studying, writing essays, commuting all at once. This is also my first semester dorming with 3 other people, so ya gotta be mindful of them when they're studying too. If the recording sounds off whether its voice or editing, you know why now. But thank yall for being patient with me.

My art classes in college were NOT open to creative expression. My creative expression was realism, simplicity. They just saw me as uninspired and boring, not trying, etc.
That is why I no longer take art classes.

There's definitely a path to take, and it's not easy, but if you're truly passionate about art, you can find your own way.

"Touchy" sounded pretty similar to a girl from my high school art class way back. Granted, I only noticed her being all touchy within her circle of friends, where they had a whole mommy/daughter roleplay sctick that they ran with throughout the entire semester, if not longer. Still weird and mildly inappropriate to do during class time, but at least it seemed like they were more...consensual about it.

When I was in school, my class had a project where we had to draw a man and cover him with plants and leafs, I was very happy with what I was making. Later a girl in my class saw my drawing and complimented both me and the piece, then right after the girl who bullied me (and sat in the seat next to mine in art class, where she did nothing in class except watched me draw it) butted in and said to her "No, it's not amazing cuz she traced it". Like, wtf why??

Once I showed one of my OCs to a cousin and he said "that looks like a character from ___"
I felt a bit bad for it cuz I thought the character was original. Also I don't have any idea of what character he was talking about

For a lot of "haters" there's a weird process in their head when it comes to actually EVER giving a compliment to someone, especially for art or craft. They have to recognize that they can't do as well because they haven't dedicated that kind of time and patience to build the skill... AND if they manage to say anything good, they feel their own insecurities... SO they cushion that by finding every fault and flaw they can, even if it's a stretch or completely made up...
SOME are not haters, though... The casual ones who might see a resemblance, but don't outright attack it like you had to trace it, and frequently they're hoping you're part of the same fandom as them... to even know about that character your project looks like.
What's funny(?) is that for those of us who DO know anything about art, there's no such insecurity or agony over complimenting someone's work. That's skill showing when you draw well or paint well or whatever. I rather love it when someone wants to know where I had to go to buy a wooden canoe or kayak. You almost can't find them in the U.S. made out of wood, because so few people even know how to bend and shape wood, let alone the old-school joinery and all involved... SO I like that they're sure I couldn't possibly do it, even if there's almost nowhere to buy them. You get used and fix them if you can, or like me, you build it entirely on your own. There might be kits, but I just don't even know where to go. It's easier (to me) to just do the thing... AND it's almost always a big dose of satisfaction when I reply, "I didn't get it anywhere. I made it."
You just can't let the epic fault-finders or haters get to you. If you enjoy something you SHOULD do it. I'll likely never compete with DaVinci, nor make the kind of money of Worhal or Picasso... I draw okay, and that's good enough. Sometimes I can use my skills for Holiday cards or even occasionally to design a T-shirt or add just the right accent to sell something... make a little side cash. ;o)

When I did an art class, I saw other's art and realized that I was crap. But I didn't stop because even though I wasn't born a drawer, I was born a analyst. This allowed me to plan my drawings in detail beforehand.
As a member of the rare breed know as “homeschoolers” I can assure you that yes we are offered art classes

Took an art class in highschool. Was shitty at art. Barely tried and was mostly there because I had friends in the class. Conflicted with teacher more than once questioning her stance on a few different ideas. Got straight A’s and she was heart broken when I didn’t go again the next semester. We almost never got along and I was so confused on why she wanted me back

Marker: rub Sandpaper on it, then color over it.
Colored pencil: Eraser and sandpaper
Watercolor: Soak a paper towel in water, get another paper towel and rub the canvas or paper try. Then use the wet paper towel
Acrylic: wait to dry, paint over it.

I think the best way of getting rid of paint issues is titanium white. Art is also hard af and no matter how hard I try somethings gonna be wrong. Also the bit about all artists being introverts and rly hating their own art allot of the time had me lol

Tbh, same. Someone stole my art that I had been working on over the summer from school last year. The art teacher was so mad she was going to figure out who took it. It wasn't until towards the end of the year that the portfolio it was in turned up but the piece never showed back up. It was only a graphite portrait that was done a little but I was and still am salty. Took my good paper.

Yeah I was homeschool too, you most definitely had art class! In fact I went monthly at a very young age to the local art museum for classes, and eventually I moved up to the older kid monthly classes.

There was a girl who used to steal my sketchbook and artwork take it home and either traced it then finished it at home with her shitty colouring or she'd take a photo and post it on social media claiming it was hers and she actually managed to steal my pieces by saying I was the one who stole them from her, using her photos as evidence, she pissed me off so much and I'm shy so I would never go around showing people my art so everyone just thought I was a thief, it only eventually stopped when I started adding invisible ink signatures to all of them and I'd carry a uv light to use when I needed to get back a piece or stop it n the first place
There was also this other time when I copied a drawing from the Internet cos I just really liked it and cos I don't show off my art it hadn't been mentioned that I copied it, so, when the girl stole it and claimed it was hers, I publicly confronted her and she was giving it the whole 'this is my original piece' ' stop trying to steal from me again' bs and so I asked her what inside red her to draw it and all that shiz and she just kept saying she made it up so eventually I busted out my phone and showed everyone the original piece that I copied it from and everyone finally realised what had been happening all this time after they started asking me about it because they had seen me drawing in the library, the class kinda turned on her and started pressuring her to give back my art, she gave a few pieces back but she defiantly kept more than she gave back

I don't relate with these kinds of people. I fight kids. I would bust somebody in the face and make em gimme my stuff back. It's not being introverted or socially akward it's just not having a spine. Just confront them. If you outsmart them outsmart em, if you gotta fight em fight em, if you gotta confront them confront them.

yep, my mom was my teacher so no tutors. The homeschool program I went through (A-Beka) did have art class books with projects in them but I mostly taught myself outside of that.

AkiAmeko I find it interesting that some people would make excuses for this behavior. I’d beat the crap out of anyone who did this to me. I once knew a girl in HS who acted this way and was also always trying to sleep with everyone’s boyfriend. She did something crazy (too long of a story to tell) and my mom refused to let me around her. The reputation she had that she liked went south after that.

im in 10 grade, and since all i ever do is drawing, went to arts, and hOLY CRAP do i relate do that introvert part...so im the shiest person you could met and whenever anyone compliments my drawings i...just awkwardly smile... then 10m later, (or for the rest of the day) i taunt myself over like "hOLY CRAP You couldve said this, or you couldve said that"
Same, I'm always awkward when someone(besides my friends) compliments my art, because I'm not one of the popular people, and no one notices me. Although, I do feel honored when others see my art.
