    Thank you for your video. I'v been making pouches for the last three years, but I had to put together pieces from different videos to have a sort of complete instructions scheme. In your tutorials there is every single step you need to make a nice and neat work, very well explained in a correct time. I also love the style of the fabrics you use !

    Not top stitching the lining fabric is such a game changer 😭🥳🥳 I have watched so many tutorials and you’re the first one to do it that way and it’s gonna make auch a difference. thanks!!

    • @AprilNY100
      @AprilNY100 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Can I ask why it was a game changer? I’ve always top stitched my lining down and before I sew using this tutorial I’d like to know the benefit of not top stitching the liner? I always thought you were supposed to so it doesn’t get caught in the zipper.

    • @warialdasue
      @warialdasue ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AprilNY100I’m wondering about that too

    • @seangrimes9986
      @seangrimes9986 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too. I’ve always thought you’re supposed to too stitch the lining down. Especially for after the pouch is laundered and it’s more difficult to press it the same way you did during construction. 🤔

    • @tampabaylisa6151
      @tampabaylisa6151 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was thinking the same thing, but now I can see that everything lines up better when the lining isn't included in that topstitching!

  • @wbwylie
    @wbwylie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok. I'm not an experience seamster. So, I was trying to make a tool pouch with canvas. I found that if I made the zipper tab longer, like an inch beyond the zipper, the heavy fabric was easier to fold and sew. I still didn't see through the tab as you suggest. Seemed to work pretty well! Does my approach make sense?

    • @wbwylie
      @wbwylie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is: "sew" through the tabs....

  • @robinmanly7381
    @robinmanly7381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    Wonderful tutorial! I see my mistake was stitching over the tabs rather than just close to them. I could never figure out what to do with that bulk!

    • @ROMEKBNY
      @ROMEKBNY 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m a bit lost on this part…so you should be stitching around the tabs? Toward the edge of the pouch? This is why the width of the pouch is not the same as the length of the zipper?

    • @mbmochinski
      @mbmochinski 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Romasterflex your seam allowance should be such that you stitch right next to where the tabs end. You can make the seam allowance a bit smaller right there so you don't stitch over the tab.

    • @Vivaplus123
      @Vivaplus123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same here I watched a few videos and finally I understood how close to the tabs I should go. I will try again. Thanks

    • @seangrimes9986
      @seangrimes9986 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhhh I think I get it now! I’m glad I came across these comments! I have a pouch all cut out and ready to go, and I am going to try this process again and hopefully not have all that bulk to deal with around my zipper tabs!

    I use double sided sewing tape like wondertape to hold the zipper for sewing. Eliminates the need for pins or clips and keeps the zipper in place nicely. This tape will disappear when you wash it.

    I appreciate your videos. I thank you for pressing the seams open during construction. It amazes me the number of videos (especially in bag making) that never press the seams. And, they don’t seem to realize how much better their product would be with this additional step. But to the trained and experienced eye it is so obvious.

    I cut 8.5 x 7.
    Regular 7" zipper.
    Cut off bottom stop n Above top stop. Add tabs.
    This gives greater fabric at edges so alittle gap at end of zipper when sides sewn. Wish i could include photo

    Thank you for several pointers which will improve my zippered bags. For me, the most useful was not having the tabs go all the way to the sides. So that's how things get nice and squared up! Also, I acknowledge the nudge to press between steps, something I have been skipping (out of convenience or, I admit, laziness).
