Terrific conversation!! I’m a biotech master student specializing in plant breeding and getting to know the inner workings of a novel genetic program in such a clear and to-the-point manner was both extremely motivating and incredibly insightful. It was also lovely to see the host’s willingness and curiosity to go down the genetics rabbit hole: the “unscriptedness” was what got me hooked. It world be a honor to base my master’s thesis work on Padraic’s project (but I’d probably have to outrun all my Wageningen colleagues/enemies ;))
I think an interesting idea hinted at here by flood was thag we have so many species to select from. An interesting idea for the fiture of humanity, of not just sustainability, but richness. Lets domesticate as much as we can and create more food availabity and choice. Why not
When I visited Padraic, he was also growing something very similar from north America that might have been 'Apios americana'. I will have to ask him if that is what it was...
@@EscapedSapiens Apios americana has several improved lines mainly by Louisiana University. Highly productive with a 1 year cycle instead of a biannual. Highly nutritious and full of proteines.
@@jf3457 Indeed Apios americana is a species with great potential. I do not think it can easily be bred on an annual cycle though, certainly not at the latitude of the Netherlands. It would be great if the LSU project was continued though.

I really love the dream. Why not indeed!
What about Apios americana

@padraic12away thanks for the answer. Are you looking for test growers for your Aardaker lines?
