He was one of a kind...he "exploded" onto the scene and pretty much upstaged all the other comics of the day (except Carlin, of course). Sam was the man.
First time I heard Sam, scared the crap outta me. A friend of mine put on a cassette tape, turned the volume ALL THE WAY UP, knowing full well it was gonna start with Sam SCREAMING! I almost jumped out of my skin! Was hooked after that.
I loved Sam Kinison in Back to School as professor Turchison. What a classic scene! He was one of the best comedians I've ever seen. RIP Sam. You left us too soon. You were one of the great ones! Thanks for those memorable moments.
Great to revisit 35 years later. Feels like only yesterday. This was some of Sam’s best material. He was even having a hard time not laughing along the way.
@@jimjam5012clearly you’ve been taught to hold all your anger in and prance around joyfully. And to be submissive. Not that it’s a bad thing. All the yelling is hyperbole, it’s a show all the yelling is essentially frustration that has been turned into relatable humor. It’s hysterical. The next time you write a paper that’s due within an hour or you’re pressed for time and you just can’t take it anymore, you will find that the simple act of screaming is enough to literally make you feel better. You ever scream into a box, you ever screamed at a video game because that player keeps spawn killing you, you ever played sports and whenever your team scores a goal you let out a cheer/scream. It’s the same thing. That’s all I have to say.
I was 15 years old when I first saw Sam Kinison on Rodney Dangerfield’s Young Comedians Special on HBO in 1985. My mind has never been the same since that day. This guy was legendary.
I have seen Sam's stand up on Rodney's show so many times and I think this is his funniest ten minutes . He is so badly missed , he was such a unique talent .
I went from 1st grade thru high school in the same class as Sam. He was the class clown and a very nice guy. We used to chase him around in fun on the playground and he'd scream even at a young age. That's just who he was. A good guy.
@@Alamyst2011 I can tell you anything you want to know as a child thru high school but I never saw him anymore after that until I turned on SNL one night and they said, we'll be right back with Sam Kinison. I thought, what, their can't be two Sam Kinisons. I'll see when he comes on. Sure enough it was him. In 4th grade he stayed over one night in at my house along with three other kids . His parents came and got him late that night. I think he had told his mom he was staying at our friends house who lived behind sam but instead, stayed at my house. Maybe he got home sick too and called his mom. I don't I'm not sure. . Another funny story is he got in trouble for goofing off in class so the teacher made him go out the door on the 2nd floor escape to clean the big box of chalk board erasers as punishment. Everybody laughed when he came back inside totally white head to toe.
in the police academy movies, he delivered every word in that voice - the '' just took a bong hit of crack and is holding it in '' voice. I was surprised he had a normal voice.
Sam used to keep my best friend and I rolling on the floor! We would come home after the bar all drunk, and listen to Sam! I swear, we would laugh so hard that we would never get hung over. It really cleared your head of everything, and the laughing just burned through all the hangover! Sam is the cure!
What a tragic yet amazingly profound story of the minutes before Sam died in a car accident on the way to his gig in Laughlin, Nevada. This happened right after his 5 day honeymoon in Hawaii : his best friend LaBove was with him as the following happened: “Kinison appeared to have suffered no serious injuries, but within minutes he suddenly said to no one in particular, "I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die." LaBove later said, "it was as if he was having a conversation, talking to someone else, some unseen person." Then there was a pause as if Kinison was listening to the other person speak. Then he asked "But why?" and after another pause LaBove heard him clearly say: "Okay, okay, okay." LaBove said, "The last ‘okay’ was so soft and at peace ... Whatever voice was talking to him gave him the right answer and he just relaxed with it. He said it so sweet, like he was talking to someone he loved." Kinison then lost consciousness. Efforts to resuscitate him failed. Kinison died at the scene from internal injuries"
Yes, I recall that mentioned back when he died. I have never forgotten it. What was interesting is that I think he was also a minister of some sort either at an earlier time in his life, or, his other job. I don't know which.
Listening to this almost 30 years later I still laugh so hard I almost fall out of my chair. Sam was brilliant, and as someone mentioned, Rodney Dangerfield was a class act giving new comedians the spotlight.
Seeing this routine for the first time as a teenager, it marked one of only three times in my life that I have literally fallen out of my chair laughing.
@@DevanRobinson 1. Watching the first five minutes of 'Full Metal Jacket' for the first time. I was watching the film on video and had to kept pausing the tape because I was laughing too hysterically. Probably took me 20 minutes to watch that five minutes. 2. Listening to an old Monty Python record. Can't recall which record, but I think the sketch is called "Logic." I was a teenager during all of these instances. Can't guarantee I would find these things as funny had I first encountered them as an adult.
I had it happen once when I watched Randy feltface it's a bit called "buying a bookshelf off Gumtree" and it's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard
I saw Sam at the Paramount Theater in Seattle, Summer of 1987, and even though we were in the nosebleed seats, when he screamed he deafened the whole place. Loudest show I've ever been to in my life and I've been on the floor, 20 feet from the stage, at 2 Judas Priest concerts and 3 AC/DC concerts in the 80's. My ears rang appropriately for several hours after those shows but Sam had us ringing for a couple of days. A legend.
God bless Sam. They broke the mold when Sam left us. He was definitely one of kind comedian. Now you got to be careful what you say or make fun of. I wish things were the way they used to be. The 70s & 80s were the best of times this country will ever see. Music, comedy, movies you name it they were the best this country had to offer. It was fun while it lasted. Good memories back then, good memories.
I was a grown man when I watched this back in the day ...and I honestly ..actually pissed my pants...I was laughing so hard ....miss this guy ..wish he stayed a little longer
The truth is always enduring...and the fundamental human condition of looking for true love is universal through time, Sam had his finger on the pulse of human need.
Sam was so hilarious that tears would fill your eyes. Non-stop screaming. Outrageously over the top. He died young and had a two-way conversation with God, who spoke to Sam as he passed away.
I was born 11 days after Sam died yet here I am tearing at the eye with laughter because this man was so relatable to me. I was repressed and wanted to live just like Sam. Yeah he did it extreme but he had a lot of money and fame so that's why it's kind of different but still the same line of thinking is there for me. I just want to live as free and happy with no more regret about things I didn't do for as long as it can last.
I was in high school and saw this when it was first broadcast on HBO back in the 80's. I could tell at school the next day who had HBO and had seen it when I did. You didn't even have to ask; you could hear the unusually high level of snickering and laughing between all the guys (myself included) in class and just knew! A classic!!
@Allan Ros What do you mean by "cancelled"? Are you suggesting the Police would stop him performing? If people wanted to see him and Comedy Clubs wanted to host him then they would.
I think it needed him then...he really let a lot of people feel better about recognizing their own self hatred in him...today there is a different type
I love Rodney Dangerfield. The guy was a genius. I laugh so hard my sides hurt and my face aches. Funniest comedians to walk the earth in my opinion. Sam Kinnison is so funny too... He was one of a kind...he "exploded" onto the scene and pretty much upstaged all the other comics of the day (except Carlin, of course). Sam was the man.
Meh Carlin cocaines himself lame
Carlin was just built fuckin different tho 💀😂

I'd love to hear him sing in a metal band

I guess humour is subjective, but man, I didn't find this funny at all. Obnoxious yelling = comedy?
@@jimjam5012sad that is all you saw. Dude was preaching the gospel and you are doing the equivalent of spell checking.
@@HyperKilljoy112 That's cool or what ever, but his obnoxious unfunny yelling reminds me of cringe TH-camrs that do the same thing.

I saw Sam live in Philly in 1988 and he was great. Never forgot the show. RIP Sam!

I was 15 years old when I first saw Sam Kinison on Rodney Dangerfield’s Young Comedians Special on HBO in 1985. My mind has never been the same since that day. This guy was legendary.
So damned glad and fortunate to have seen him live...Colorado Springs '91...RIP Sam...
When the men in the crowd yelled "Yeah!" All together... 😅💪🏻
The wild man of comedy. Been none like him since.
Thank goodness. He sucked
MrTruboy why are you here?
He literally changed the way people looked at what stand up could be. Such a great time for comedy.
Then he threw it all away.
@MrTruboy Sam's not funny but fucking mommy is? Ok bud
@MrTruboy liar
A good guy.
This is such an awesome comment.
Bullshit
Seriously great to hear. I wish we knew more about this guy
LUCKY
Sam's woman voice in this clip caught me off guard lol.
in the police academy movies, he delivered every word in that voice - the '' just took a bong hit of crack and is holding it in '' voice.
I was surprised he had a normal voice.
bill burr stole that cadence/vocal tone for his psycho girl voice. way too close to be a coincidence
"Come on. Come ONNNNNN!!! Come on this is loooooove! This is love, come on, cOME OOOOooOnn!" I was crying laughing so hard

This happened right after his 5 day honeymoon in Hawaii : his best friend LaBove was with him as the following happened:
“Kinison appeared to have suffered no serious injuries, but within minutes he suddenly said to no one in particular, "I don’t want to die.
Earlier in life
A beautifully written recounting, of another of our talented artists, a truely great one, too . . .thank you, Mister Miller.

He was the right comedian at the right time. I was so sad when I heard he had died in a car accident. He is definitely not forgotten.
What were the other two times king
@@DevanRobinson 1. Watching the first five minutes of 'Full Metal Jacket' for the first time. I was watching the film on video and had to kept pausing the tape because I was laughing too hysterically. Probably took me 20 minutes to watch that five minutes.
2. Listening to an old Monty Python record. Can't recall which record, but I think the sketch is called "Logic."
I was a teenager during all of these instances. Can't guarantee I would find these things as funny had I first encountered them as an adult.
@@Plathismo great that you remember that. Laughter is important
I had it happen once when I watched Randy feltface it's a bit called "buying a bookshelf off Gumtree" and it's the most hilarious thing I've ever heard
Hard to believe it's three decades he has been gone. Unique talent.😊
A legend.
Impossible to copy his style, voice and energy! Amazing talent.

Robin too and Mitch Hedberg

I worked as an usher at The Fox Theater in college in Atlanta and saw one his last live performances while working it. Great memories.

This man is speaking for all brokenhearted angry men on earth. This set will live on for a long time
The truth is always enduring...and the fundamental human condition of looking for true love is universal through time, Sam had his finger on the pulse of human need.
Bitter pathetic losers you mean?
“I thought it was the door to love but it turned out to be the door to hell”. OMG LMFAO!! Lost it. 🤣🤣
Sam was so hilarious that tears would fill your eyes. Non-stop screaming. Outrageously over the top. He died young and had a two-way conversation with God, who spoke to Sam as he passed away.
Oh yeah? Did he tell you that? Or was it Ozzy?
“I don’t want to die!”
(God then says something, probably to the effect of “but you have to”)
“Oh, okay.”
He was screaming
