I just bought the 2024 Escape hybrid in Platinum trim. I literally looked at EVERY small suv and none or them felt comfortable to me. I was about to buy the Rav 4 when Found this one and fell in love with how pretty it is inside and out, and the comfort of the seats. I can sit high and see everything - the most comfortable seats next to the Toyota Venza. It was expensive, but so were others and I couldn't see spending so much on a car that I didn't like. This has plenty of backseat room (the seats actually move forward and back) while still staying small enough to be easily managed. Mine parks itself - which I admit is pretty scary to let it go and watch it happen, and it has every safety feature I could even imagine. I tried tested the collision avoidance by trying to back into my brother but the car stopped itself 2 feet away. I am praying that it is as reliable as it is pretty.
Hola !
Great review as always! As an owner of a 2021 SE model, a few things I’d like to add about the Escape Hybrid in general: - You’re 100% right about the heated seats, mine are cloth but at the top setting they are legitimately HOT even in -30 weather. - Some may complain about the interior feeling cheap, sure it’s a little plasticky but the super comfortable seats and abundance of space make up for that in my opinion. I slightly prefer it to the RAV4. - These will probably be a great used car buy down the road. Toyota prices have been insane on the secondary market, and I just don’t think the RAV4 hybrid is that much more reliable to justify the extra cost. The Escape uses a very similar powertrain which has proven itself well over the years. Remember the eCVT is built by Aisin, and the Duratec gas engine was co-developed with Mazda and has a great reputation. I feel better about the Ford than I do with the Korean alternatives. Keep up the great work you two!
Yeah, I think Ford nailed it with this vehicle. They just need to tame their pricing a little bit and add that softer suspension to more trim levels. If they sell a 1,000 or 2,000 dollars below the RAV4 they would get much more sales.
@@charlesdudek7713 I am in the other camp. We have owned 3 before plus 2 currently. I really like the Sportage Hybrid in this class. It bites they cannot make them fast enough.
I find myself watching reviews for cars I’m not even interested in because you two are so compelling. I really appreciate how you don’t tell anyone “to buy” or “not to buy”, you provide pro’s and con’s and that’s what’s so valuable. Just because I car does or doesn’t come AWD, doesn’t make it bad or good, just may not be an appropriate vehicle for someone and that’s why I keep watching, even though I’m not looking! Well done, keep it up.
A few years ago, I bought a RAV4 for my wife, choosing a reliable car. My wife hated this car, I realized it when we took the RAV4 on a trip. After a hundred kilometers I couldn't find a place in the seat, it was fuel-hungry, driving the RAV4 at night was a nightmare. We both looked for switches in the dark. Overall, my wife didn't like the RAV4 and we decided to sell it. I chose escape phev after the review from your video. I chose top trim 2022 escape. My wife is delighted with the car, it is spacious, comfortable, quiet and economical. Reliable so far. Ford Escape with 2.5 l engine is a good choice.
I have a 2020 Escape Hybrid Titanium, and it has been amazing. No repairs needed so far, just simple maintenance. My mileage doubled from my previous van, which saves a LOT of money. Really happy so far.
Bought a 2024 Escape hybrid ST Line Select today. Long time VW owner, but love this Escape. Besides being my everyday vehicle, will also use to flat tow as tote vehicle behind a motorhome. I have a smaller motorhome and didn't want to pull something bigger, and there are very few options. This will fit the bill nicely. Thanks!
Recently drove a 2023 rental Escape over 10 days in Aruba, have to say that I was very impressed with it. If you are in the market for a small SUV you should certainly shortlist the Escape
My 2020 Escape Hybrid with 30k miles was bought back by ford due to an insane amount of issues. Picked up a Sportage SX hybrid and so far it's a solid car.
We bought a 2008 Escape hybrid. Although we bought it in March, the dealership had never seen one until we ordered it. It was a very good car and was a great highway traveller. It also got 6.0 l per 100 km which turned out to be better than the FIAT 500 we bought as a second car in late 2011 (2012 model). The Escape was fun driving electrically from time to time and we traded the Escape in 2012 for a Chevrolet Volt which was an outstanding car. One slight advantage of the current Escape over the RAV 4 is that you can actually buy one (try that at your Toyota dealer!) I have a Prius Prime on order (Oct 2023 ordered). The dealership is not sure if I will get the Prius in 2024 - may be 2025. To get a Toyota hybrid, you must be patient. My Maverick Lariat Hybrid has just arrived - I already have a XLT hybrid Maverick which will get traded back in.
I own a 2020 Escape SE Sport Hybrid with premium package. It's 4 years old now and averaging 46.8 mpg so far. No problems. Paint job is great in white tri coat metallic. Now I do have an open recall on possible engine failure. There were some defective blocks and so far about 600 engines have failed out of hundreds of thousands produced. So I'm not worried after 4 years. And an open recall covers me. Most failures come after a couple thousand miles as Pistons are destroyed by defective tolerances on block. So so far less than 1% of 2020-2023 Escape Hybrids are affected.
Great test and review. Really like this Ford Escape Hybrid. My likes it too as easy on gas and smaller than our Kia Sorrento. PS just sitting back in my easy chair watching this review with a glass of wine.
@Motormouth *In Germany this model is called the 2024 Ford Kuga and it was designed in Cologne. They offer a LOT more ala carte option combinations in Europe than we can get here in the USA and Canada* You might want to review some of the European channels on YT to see the differences.
In December 2019, just before the pandemic hit, I traded in my 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid for a 2020 Ford Escape SE Sport Hybrid. While the 2020 was known for quality issues overall, the hybrids appear to have been an exception. Even Consumer Reports said the hybrid was “the Escape done right.” The model has had several recalls, but I’ve experienced no problems. I live in the Boston, MA area; have driven the car to Maine, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Delaware without any issues. It is comfortable to be in for long driving days. My wife says the passenger experience is great. Finally, I understand people didn’t generally like the exterior styling, that Porsche look, but to this day people still tell us they love the look of the car.
Great review! I love your channel. I used to watch Zack on Sunday mornings on Driving Television! I wish the manufacturers would give you a base model once in a while to review. Im cheap!
I have a 2020 Titanium hybrid (first generation of this new look), it has almost 60k kilometers. Honestly after 4 years, I’m pretty happy with this car and no issues so far
So what you should be saying is that electric is the future and hybrid is what the current market needs until battery tech advances. Much like initially with gas stations, the charging network will never advance without demand.
I had a 2023 Titanium hybrid. I loved it until at about 10 months of ownership it developed a battery (12V) problem that Ford could not fix. After about 65 days in the Ford Dealer repair shop I contacted Ford and arranged for them to repurchase the vehicle. I do have to say that Ford dealt with the situation in the best way possible, and we quite fair and accomodating in the repurchase. But overall, a disappointing outcome since I liked the vehicle so much.
I had a 2020 Escape Titanium Hybrid, I really liked that vehicle when I got it. But a few months later I had to have the rear tail lights replaced under warranty due to condensation build up inside them, the windsheild cracked for no apparent reason due to Ford using thinner glass and the 12V battery died on a very cold winter day leaving me stranded and that was also replaced under warranty. After that I got rid of it.
We bought a 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid. Ours is getting 39.5 MPG. We needed a car that can hold 5 people and also has room in the back for stuff. We got the more basic model. This car was very hard to get. They sell out fast here in California. You did not mention what is difference between a "plug-in" and "non-plug-in" hybrid. We got the non-plug-in Hybrid. For us this seems to be the right choice. With non-plug-in hybrid you just drive. This is very easy to do. Thoughts?
I have a 21 Escape Hybrid a 22 Maverick Hybrid and a 23 Escape Hybrid. Love all three - comfortable, roomy and GREAT gas mileage. In ECO mode i come close to 48 MPG most of the time. All three are top of the line Platinum / Lariat. I put over 200K miles on my first Escape back in 2018. You can get price cuts and financing deals on Fords but although Toyotas are great dealers are still thinking they deserve a premium over MSRP.
I've owned a 2013 and 2018 Ford C-MAX hybrid with a similar powertrain. My 2013 has 350 plus thousand miles on it and still running strong. There's no reliability issues with this.
I always find it interesting when people say the escape is close to the Rav 4 for fuel economy. Well that might have something to do with the fact that the hybrid system in this car is based on a Toyota system, so the cars are more similar than people think.
Finally!!! I have the PHEV. It was cheaper with government incentive and my wife work discount. Really some annoying screen glitches, the most annoying has been wireless android auto disconnecting when I leave my homes wifi. I need to stop and turn off and on the car again for it to work. I just keep my phone it plugged in. During the winter months I get half of the 60km EV only range.
@@danc2159 don't let that be a deal breaker. This could be an android auto issue. I'll test it with my daughter's iPhone one day. When the phone is plugged in no issues. Say if I get into my car again the wireless android auto works. I hope I'm explaining it clearly.
Ford should have kept making the Escape hybrid on the previous gen, they'd have a greater following. I must be doing something wrong because the legroom measurements are very generous but when I tried an Escape last summer I didn't fit well at all!
Nice review, I have ordered the 2023 platinum and then the order is now updated to the 2024 model which arrive the dealer by end of March. I noticed some changes in the specs when they updated my order from the 2023 model to 2024 model. One is the added washers to the front and back cameras did you guys tested it in this model?
On paper and in person the Escape Hybrid seem like very nice car & do get exception mpg. I've drove a 2022 ICE model several thousand miles as a rental and like it. I came very close to purchasing an Escape PHEV in 2022 ^ 2023. Turned out both cars were extremely rare in PNW & even U.S. some folks waiting well over 6 months for PHEVs. I started monitoring the Ford Escape owner's forum. For a car that had sold very few units in 2023, there were an excessive number of complaints for both HEVs & PHEVs(I realize forums attract complaints). Mostly electronic & 12v battery issues. As several others have mention in the comments, the 12v battery issues go back as far as the 2020 models. While I imagine many Escape Hybrids are reliable and overpriced for high end models. I decided to get a used 2023 Niro HEV. Less space but more MPG and features. Has been a very good car for the 1st 16xxx miles.
I had a 22 RAV4 Hybrid Limited and it was a lot of trouble, everyone builds lemons. My issues were braking system, electronics related to the safety systems and quality like rattling roof and drivers seat foam separating! I agree on the pricing, if you are going to include less you need to price it down.
Dude the wife's 2011 ford escape limited has some of the nicest leather seats. Only my old 07 BMW with red leather bucket seats was nicer. They don't make those like they used to either
I have a new Escape ST Select gas engine, which now has port injection with GDI (250HP). The MSRP was $40850 with Sunroof, Tow package, 19" wheels, Adaptive cruise, Red color, 4 wheels. I have not found anything bad so far. I found it online in Washingtonn and I am in Oregon. It was advertised with a $5730 discount and that is what I paid, no extras, add ons or junk fees, just $200 DOC Fee. Tags, Title, Registration ($404 for 4 years) I did myself. Tax was $183. Did the whole deal online/phone with no problems. (Pierreford of Seattle). My previous car, which I'm holding on to is a 2012 Fusion SE (65000 miles). It has been totally faultless. If you ask why buy new if it's faultless. I want a first new car before I peg out! I'm old!
Please tell me Ford has relocated the battery in the new Escape. The 2013 model has it buried next to the firewall and half the car has to come apart to change it. Insane design choice for sure.
#1 The CX-60 is not sold in North America, which is the market they review cars for, and #2 the Mazda is not a "sister car" to this and has nothing to do with Ford at all.
Thank you for your kind clarification on the car not being sold in Canada . Ford owns Mazda. Same architecture chassis where 4 or 5 different cars are made like Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, and even Chevrolet.
My daughter has a 22”. I find the rear seatbelts always pop out of the guides on the rear seats. Did you find that being the case on the newer model? Just an annoying blip.
I had a 2020 Escape Platinum which I bought as it was one of the few available and was pleasantly surprised. While the interior quality was meh, the tech, power and size (interior space) were great. Zach is right, I live in Puerto vallarta and they only offer hybrid, it was about $6000 USD more than a Tucson hybrid but was AWD vs fwd (but no snow here). I bought the Tucson for better interior quality, quieter and lower price though it came down to those two. I am delighted with the Tucson although Ford’s adaptive cruise is safer and i prefer Synch 4. Tucson cruise often misses the car ahead in curves and when one cuts in and doesn’t stop. Guess what? After my purchase the escape hybrid Platinum is about $7500 off, so now competitive with Tucson!
Question regarding the Corolla Cross Hybrid...why are wait times not getting any better? I see RAV4 hybrids at dealerships, but CC Hybrids are like unicorns.
13"53 what happened to the turn signals on the Escape? They used to be proper separate amber lamps, but now the brake lights flash for some nonsensical reason? Whoever signed off on that decision evidently doesn't know what they're doing and needs to find a new line of work. All turn signals, front, side and rear are separate amber lamps, without exception.
It Europe the car (called the Kuga) has proper amber turn signals. If you wanted to you could buy the European tail lamp housings and install them in your US spec cars without any problem. Only need to use a scan tool to set the lamp spec to EU.
I’m pretty sure lower trims get less soft touch surfaces. Those are reserved to the Platinum trim, other than that, plastic fantastic across the line. I agree the previous generation was a bit more detailed oriented in that sense
I think the comment about the high/pushed back armrest was spot on, especially compared to the armrest style of the Venza or Tucson. Lower and more forward.
I really enjoy your show. keep up the good work. We Own a 2014 escape with a 2.0l 4cyl and tow package so we have a tranny cooler in it. Other than regular Maintenace. we love it we bought it new. We have thought about a replacement escape or Rave 4. But delivery time is very long. On the Rave. I wonder is it worth the extra price of a Hybrid if we do more highway then. In city driving. Or should we just stick with the gas engine and save the dough?
Would you consider adding some extra points to your reviews? Such as predicted/perceived reliability and potential resale value? Seeing this being talked about on other channels and it would be some good info that I'm sure ppl would be interested to know.I was thinking about hearing your own opinions about these. As much as I am aware those vehicles are brand new, these factors can be deducted from the model and company's history to the best of one's ability. Cheers.
We have had 3 escapes all powered by the turbo 2.0, flawless, all 3 of them. Don’t love this screen on the new one, too many features in the screen and not enough buttons. I like the pre 2019 dash much better
I'm looking at a used 2020-2022 Escape hybrid Titanium under 60,000 km and I'm finding prices pretty 'reasonable' $30-35K in Canada. Zack I like Maverick too, but I'm in snowy area and need AWD.
The mechanical system in ford escape hybrid is the almost same as Toyota hybrid except rear wheel motor in toyota. I drove escape hybrid, rav4 hybrid, and venza hybrid (2019MY, 2022MY, 2023MY). They are all similar in fuel efficiency and drivetrain. I liked both rav4 and venza interior while i really liked ford nvh and ride quality.
I TOTALLY disagree on the sunroof opinion.........I am thrilled to be able to have a nice car WITHOUT the ridicules sunroof........I have NEVER opened one and am repelled at having to pay for one..!!!!!...........Also what is the Batterie size and EV only range..????........The ONLY reason I can give for not having one already is that They had been FWD only and I only buy AWD.......Paul
Just another comment........My 24' forester touring has collision braking and I would pay to have it removed........It is chalenging/frustrating to get it into My short Garage....And the braking is VIOLENT........like a crash..................Paul
Informative review but didn't sway me from my top picks....the CRV and RAV 4 Hybrids. KIA builds some great looking vehicles, but I'd be very surprised if they lasted as long as a Honda or Toyota.

I must be doing something wrong because the legroom measurements are very generous but when I tried an Escape last summer I didn't fit well at all!
The Escape is a good vehicle as long as you don’t get the 3 cyl engine trims
I agree on the pricing, if you are going to include less you need to price it down.
unfortunately we don't get these anymore here in Australia..
How could it NOT soar!
Yup most are now going have more hybrid than Full EV
I can see that cheap shiny leather Ford uses is still in going strong in 2024.
It will be dull dirty black in 6 months.
I'm old!
65,000 miles is just broken in my man. I'd keep that fusion.
My dream is to have a new truck but fk that $1000 payments a month forget it lol
Great review as always.. but i would not trade my new 24 Venza (we loooove it) for an Escape.. 😊
Best looking non-luxury hybrid crossover on the road today, in my opinion. At least until Mazda releases a hybrid CX-50.
Please tell me Ford has relocated the battery in the new Escape. The 2013 model has it buried next to the firewall and half the car has to come apart to change it. Insane design choice for sure.
In the Hybrid it's under the spare tire in the rear cargo area. Much easier to replace than the previous generation !!!
Bought the St Line yesterday, wanted the hybrid but one wasn't available so ended up with the 1.5 L.
This or the Bronco Sport?
It's the same car from 10+ years ago. Except back then the discounts made it worth it. The older boxy gens of the early 2000s were gold though.
great video with details
I'm surprised that you did not review it against its sister car? Mazda cx60 hybrid
@@v8soarer1991 Ford does NOT own Mazda anymore and hasn't for some time now.
They parted ways back in 2015. Ford and Mazda share no ties at all now.
1:13 Zack put it in 'N' for nugget instead of a for subscribe 😂
I think the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV subcompact SUV is the best on the class. Best bang for your buck!
Mitsubishi still makes great, underrated vehicles. The Eclipse Cross and Outlander Sport are antique though.
Any word on availability, wait times?
The rear centre armrest is in the shape of Alberta; should be BC right?
Escape looks good! Unfortunately not enough features. Driver display looks almost like the RAV4. Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️
Thanks for watching!!
@@andreaspencer9813 You are a very welcome! ☕️☕️
Definitely an improved look except for that big dent in the door panels that make it look like it was in a collision…
Question regarding the Corolla Cross Hybrid...why are wait times not getting any better? I see RAV4 hybrids at dealerships, but CC Hybrids are like unicorns.
Rav4 hybrids are not available at lots either in Canada . I really can't wait for things to be back to normal
Wind noise in the A frame is a thing for the 23 PHEV as well
I am curious how your viewer totals are split between the US and Canada and the ROW
I mostly like this model. If they made ventilated seats available, I'd gobble one up. Alas...
👍🏻 If you build them.
They will sell.
I really hope this turns out to be a good car.
I think the comment about the high/pushed back armrest was spot on, especially compared to the armrest style of the Venza or Tucson.
Lower and more forward.
Mazda CX 5 signature at $47000. Not hybrid but fun to drive.
Mostly highway driving buy a regular gas engine.
I had one of these as a rental for two weeks. It rattled on the highway and made weird sounds when accelerating.
Yikes. It's a decent improvement, but $53k is $5k more than my Venza Limited cost me.
Maverick hybrid not having AWD is a hard deal breaker.
Woohoo, it has a compact spare!
At 53k that Escape makes no sense when you can get a Lincoln Corsair Plug in Hubrid for 56k after EV rebates
@ 6.17 why did Kia picture came in between 😂
I'm looking at a used 2020-2022 Escape hybrid Titanium under 60,000 km and I'm finding prices pretty 'reasonable' $30-35K in Canada.
I own this vehicle. Very good. But hybrids loose a lot in the winter. I loose 200km.
This or Mazda CX50?
I get 37 mpg in a regular civic whats the point of the hybrid complexity?
We get 50 mpg with out Insight, which is basically a Civic hybrid...so if that matters to you, that would be the point 😊
Toyota would be a safe bet if you don't mind seeing them everywhere 😅
I didn't know they still made a Ford Escape 😂
Andrea you got a new phone :)
would it worry anyone that apparently they are discontinuing the escape in 2025?
Regarding pricing, maybe Ford dealers will offer a discount. Toyota dealers are not likely to do that.
I would consider this as an alternative to RAV 4 or a CRV if it were more affordable and had a better quality reputation than it has.
Just compared the price point and models. Think they are behind a lot of manufacturers in terms of price/value.
a little add-on, Adaptive cruise control doesn't come standard on ST line. Also Floors mats and Slash Guard. Where other brand give it in middle trim.
2024
Ford escape
No! $50,000 it is a ford will set on the lot! Unbelievable ford..
Unless it has a huge discount, there is really no reason to buy these.
Sooo… Toyota was right
