Nothing more satisfying than seeing someone discover Dire Straits for the first time. Welcome to one of the most incredible bands of all time. There are so many amazing Songwriters and guitarists out there But Mark Knopfler is at the very top of the pile for me. The man is a living legend. This whole band are stellar. Enjoy discovering some more absolute masterpieces going forward. Oh and it's amazing for me to discover you. I can't wait to see you react to more Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler songs.

Mtv debuted in 1981. This song came out in 1985. So there are four years of music in between the Buggles and Money for Nothing. Which is a great song. But far from one of the first ever played on MTV. Video killed the Radio Star by the Buggles is the very first song ever played on MTV. Im wanting to say Major Tom by Peter Schilling was the second. You get a shiver in the dark
It's a raining in the park but meantime-
South of the river you stop and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie, double four time
You feel alright when you hear the music ring
Well now you step inside but you don't see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain they hear the jazz go down
    Competition in other places
Uh but the horns they blowin' that sound
    Way on down south
    Way on down south
    London town
You check out guitar George, he knows-all the chords
Mind, it's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing
They said an old guitar is all, he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing
And Harry doesn't mind, if he doesn't, make the scene
He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright
He can play the Honky Tonk like anything
Savin' it up, for Friday night
    With the Sultans
    We're the Sultans of Swing
There’s a crowd a young boys they're a foolin' around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best baggies and their best Kings road
They don't give a damn about any trumpet playin' band
It ain't what they call Rock and Roll
    And the Sultans
Yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole
    Creole
And then the man he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last just as the time bell rings
"Goodnight, now it's time to go home"
Then he makes it fast with one more thing
    "We are the Sultans
We are the Sultans of Swing"

I was lucky growing up and having such amazing music! I was a kid in the 60’s, a teenager in the 70’s seeing some amazing bands live and a young adult in the 80’s. I am almost 60 in a few months and I have been fortunate to have gone to more than 200 concerts and counting! Yup I still go and will continue to go till all my artists are gone or I am. 😎 ✌🏻&❤️ Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Healey, Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Richard Thompson, SRV and EVH- my 10 faves in order. Check out the Alchemy Tour version LIVE of "Telegraph Road". btw the band personnel here on Alchemy Tour are different from the record... Hal Lindes on rhythm guitar (Mark's little bro walked) and the amazing Terry Williams on drums (late of Dave Edmund's Rockpile) supplanted Pick Withers. Peace from Canada- Merry Christmas and be safe.

Of all the things that makes these guys amazing the fact that they never end this track quite the same way twice, when it's been performed live, is truly an amazing thing.
They just let loose and improvise their way out of the song. I love that you can hear them all taking turns to 'lead' them into a slightly different direction at various points. They work so well together and seamlessly follow one another's leads.
As much as I love the studio version's amazing guitar-solo outro, I can never get enough of their live outros. So, so good.

Mark Knopfler is a fabulous guitarist who is full of "tasty" licks and this is a great video to be introduced to the band Dire Straits. I love that you loved the song and the performance. Mark has gone on to have an amazing career playing the guitar mostly in the acoustic genre. His finger picking style is very unique in Rock and Roll it is more commonly found in country, folk and classical. Great review, let's do some more. Hey thanks so much for covering Dire Straits. I very rarely watch reaction videos, but saw your Telegraph Road video earlier and enjoyed your reaction and your big smile discovering this insanely great band; they’ve been my favorite for decades now.
I’m sure others answered your question but just in case, this iteration of Dire Straits (my personal favorite) is:
Mark Knopfler-Lead guitar, singer, composer, general musical genius
    John Illsley-Bass guitar
    Hal Lindes-Rhythm guitar
    Alan Clark-Keyboards
    Terry Williams-Drums
I think this is a real musician’s band as everyone is so good at their craft and they play so well together. I’m always amazed by Mark’s unnatural abilities with a guitar, and Terry is an incredibly powerful drummer: he’s always on time and never seems to get tired. The whole band is just pure fire.
I’m really glad you tried them out and loved it!
Recommendations are hard to do as there are so many. I saw you did Telegraph Road already which is an amazing work; the other one from Alchemy I particularly recommend is “Tunnel of Love”, but it would be hard to make a bad pick!
    Thanks for the great reaction!
