I will never buy this aswhole brand. In Germany we pay for the vx4 top version 1800 dollar from a swiss company. In America they sell it for 1304 dollar. They can fuck them self. In America you have 10% discount codes in germany from TH-camr only 15 dollars. What a shitty company.
first gen VX4 owner here from the E.U. - there is another latch trick, beside jamming a pen into the latching hook: use keychain rings. a small one directly for the latch and a larger one (that's linked into the smaller one) to slide it under the 'second, lower hook' of the latching hook. It doesn't slide out, inexpensive to do/get and is easy to attach/detach for carrying by hand. What I'd love to see is a beeper when the turning likes are turned on to have an audio feedback.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hallo, schöne Idee. Kann man davon ein Foto sehen? Würde mir helfen. Danke !
You can tell this is a serious scooter by looking at the controls buttons, placed directly to rider's finger tips as it should be.
Pleasantly surprised as well that it shows Wattage and Volts on the main dashboard, very useful yet a rarity among scooters.
Add the excellent riding quality and this is for sure one of the best one motor scooters currently.
Personally, I don't need higher than 25mph speed.
Kudos to VMax, great job guys.👏👏
This whole brand has a been a very pleasant surprise! Part of it is because they're not as "new" as they feel and they've been around since 2015 in Europe. -Paul
Thanks so much! You guys make the best reviews of electric scooters on youtube.
Riding scooters all day is hard work, but somebody has to do it!! Thanks for watching and for the kind words. 😁
This was the best review of this scooter yet! Different classes of scooter of course but the Apollo Go's limited range was the only deal breaker for me. Unfortunately for myself and VMAX, the VX4 GT also has a deal breaker, the top speed. It's a small shame because I love everything else about this scooter from every review I've seen. The IPX6 rating, the display, the range, the build quality and suspension, even the price point with RiderGuide discount.... all superb! On the down side, the "slowest" long range "scooter than I own is the Emove Cruiser S which would sail past the VX4 at double walking pace. It's not that the speed is necessary all the time or even most the time, it's just nice to have when you need / want it. At perhaps a "knot" over NIU KQi 300X speed, I'm not sure that a 65.5lb, $1350, 24mph scooter can occupy a coveted 5th spot in my garage. If it eked out even another 4-5mph however, I could probably justify adding it to the stable as a more modern, single motor brother to the Cruiser S for riding with family and friends.
Thought experiment: The GOTRAX GX2 costs less right now, could probably accomplish the same 29.5mi trip (going the same speeds), has10mph faster top speed!! ...would accelerate more quickly, climb hills faster, stop in a shorter distance and likely has the superior suspension. Yes, it's 10lbs heavier (which really only maters when carrying) but that's a lot of categories that the VX4 is up against just to mention another similarly priced unit. I mean, if you knew you were going to leave your house and only go 30miles, and knew you'd have steep hills, curbs hops, ruts and potholes, some damp streets and a 1-2 mile detour on hard pack trails, would you take the VX4 or a GX2?
That's a tough one. I would feel a lot more tired after doing it on the GX2 than VX4, but then you get the option of going faster on the GX2. I think it would be very close with the GX2 though. I covered 24.7 miles on the ESG range test course on the GX2. I did 25% better range than expected during this loop, so that would put me right at 30 miles around SF on the GX2, so I'd definitely be more worried about not completing the loop on the GX2.
You always have such great analysis (what's the plural of analysis?) of electric scooters!
-Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Analysi perhaps haha! jk :) A very fair answer though! The nice thing about the ESG range test is that it always gives the faster scooter range options simply by adjusting speed. So instead of riding the GX2 at 35mph, just ride it at the same speed you ride the VX4... while occasionally enjoying the reserve of speed when needed (blending with traffic, zipping away from the chasing dog, etc). The ESG range test is a fantastic statistic but it's good to remind ourselves that it's based on the scooter's top speeds. So, my Cruiser S hit's 31-ish mph but I typically ride it at 18-20 because it's often the safe / practical speed for the particular environment I'm in. You can always go slower on a faster scooter to extend range but the slower scooter doesn't have this reverse option. Like the ESG team, I really lean on total watt-hours for estimating the work that a particular PEV can accomplish, assuming similar efficiencies. In this case 960Wh compared to 1113Wh or a difference of 153Wh between the GX2 and VX4. Although different styles of scooter, I think the GoTrax is a worthy competitor where all factors are concerned.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuidethat’s interesting you bring up how different scooters you feel less tired. What’s the best? Is theVX2 equally less tiring as the VX4? I feel exhausted on the ninebot max g2, when I do 20+ miles at a time and looking to alleviate the problem. Thanks 🙏🏽
@@capcom4eva Yeah, I get good and tired on the Apollo Go with its small wheels and bumpy ride. I'm guessing the VX4 is much more comfortable than the Go since it's wheels are larger and wider, and it's got the front fork shock, and the deck is wider. I wonder how the VX4 hill climbing compares to the 2024 Go.
The trailing front wheel design caught my attention within the first 15 seconds of the video
Thanks Paul and Raimier! That was a lot of effort and information. I used to do that lap around SF on my Dualtron during BAESK8 group rides but do it now on my EUC in smaller groups or on my own. It is a great ride but even more fun if you have a PEV that can keep up with street traffic (35MPH+). There are a lot of sections where you would have to be on the sidewalk or in an exposed bike lane with slower PEVs.
That is one thing I love about faster scooters is really being able to blend with traffic. To me, as a motorcyclist of 3 decades, it feels like the safest way to ride. Google stuffed me into San Jose ave the wrong way and it was stupid-unsafe!
-Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide San Jose was a big pain point on big group rides for anything that couldn't do 35-45mph.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Love the Arai helmet! I have a Sedici II carbon fiber but probably should have splurged for an Arai or Shoei.
Put another 500w motor in the front with 3,200w combined peak, 35mph top speed and you'll have a serious City Pro competitor likely with better range.
Interesting take! Thank You
Very awesome review and still waiting for that VMAX R40 PRO review
Hopefully we can do it soon!
I feel like people keep forgetting about how good the emove cruiser still is in today's market, 33mph top speed, huge deck, full suspension, huge 30ah battery that gives you around 30 to 35 miles of range on the fastest mode and best of all its currently, $1200. Yall should do a revisit review of it.
We love the Cruiser too! -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide it's a great scooter that's for sure :)
The design is really showing its age.
Lots of rumors of a new version coming soon.
@robertfeliciano5723 i agree but still great for what it is, i hope they put the same battery on a more up to date scooter design like the vsett's and same price.
That is probably the best display I've seen on a scoot that costs less than 2k dollars.
You're right, not long ago you'd need to buy a Kaabo Wolf King GT to get something like this! -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
I'm glad the market is becoming more and more affordable, offering these great features on cheaper scoots. It's all happening super fast too, can't wait to see where the scoot market is in a year!
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide hey can you please shout out my small TH-cam channel its called cobudu films please it would mean a lot 😅😅
I think I'd prefer a segmented LED type display on something that'll be outside a lot.
@@michaelmartin9022
What would be the reason for that?
Nice! Great scooter! Great review. Well done Paul and ESG!
Thanks so much! I had a blast on that ride! -Paul
Are you going to review the Roadrunner RX7 soon? It is supposed to ship at the end of this month. Can't wait to see it!
I’m pretty sure we have one coming soon. Mitchell will probably get to do that one. He did the RS5 and RS5 Max reviews, so he knows Roadrunner scooters better than I do. -Paul
Great video! You guys should do more like these. Cheers!
Thank you so much! We will... but maybe 10 minutes shorter! That was a lot to edit. :-) -Paul
Wow the features are very nice for a single motor, but i think it would be expected for a single motor scooter. Also when are you guys giving away the Gotrax GX1? I’ve been really excited to see who won, heck maybe I won! either way, congrats on hitting 100k!
Very soon! -Paul
Looks like an awesome day to be riding
It was amazing! -Paul
Do a back to back with this and the Cruiser S, please.
Here's Cruiser vs VX4, my gut feel review (but based on real data).
They're both great scooters. The Cruiser S has the advantage on range and top speed, but the VX4 has the advantage on ride quality and not making you feel tired after 30 miles of riding. The VX4 is way more modern and solid feeling but the Cruiser S has disc brakes front and rear, so if you want ultimate stopping power the Cruiser S has that too. On the other hand, that means you have to watch out to not over-do it on the brakes, which is something you don't really think about on the VMAX. The VMAX feels like it's doing a lot of the work for you when you ride. I would like to take the Cruiser up a 20% hill and see how it does. The VX4 out-climbs the Cruiser S on our 10% grade test hill by more than a second and is also 1 second quicker to 20mph than the Cruiser S.
So Cruiser S: Higher top speed, longer range, shorter stopping
VX4: Stronger acceleration, better hill climbing, easier to ride long distances.
-Paul
How does the hill climbing compare against other scooters, like Apollo Go?
Standard hills should be no issues! Depends on riders weight and conditions.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I'm 195 pounds. How would the VMAX VX4 compare to Apollo Go in terms of hill climbing? Thanks very much!
ive seen so many screw on pumps destroy the valve stem. dual head air chuck is best
I have a really nice one at home that latches on quickly, but the chuck alone was close to $40! -Paul
Unlike petrol cars, electric vehicles (even the tiny ones!) do much better at stop-start and slow driving than being out on the open road. When you're stopped at a red light you're only using the energy for the screen and lights.
Thanks for stopping by!
The VMax app probably has the most accurate range estimation of all scooters brands based on actual user data and real time metrics.
That’s great to know! I didn’t get to spend as much time digging into the app as I wanted. Thanks so much for the feedback. -Paul
Do a review of the circooter mate please?
They mentioned on another video that they're working on a new latch.
Any idea if they're shipping with it yet?
That’s great news. I hadn’t heard that. Ours arrived recently, so I don’t think they’re shipping it yet. -Paul
Hey Paul, you mentioned the segway gt1 those are $1499 now. Between that gt1 and this vmax which one would you buy?
Segway is Huge and heavy!
Cant wait to see you test the new VMAX VX2 Extreme with the 1600w max motor
Should be next month!
After a wet road wipeout on my solid tire ETWO-W, I couldn't wait.
I ordered the Extreme this week.
Would you recommend the Fluid Mosquito if I'm looking for a reliable, lightweight, decent range electric scooter with full suspension for under $1000 or are there better scooters with my criteria?
It fits a rare set of criteria, for sure. Fluid and Uscooters may have that one cornered. We have the ESG database working again, so you should be able to search for all of those. -Paul
I think the Uscooters GT Sport has better batteries and a brake. They're both rebrands from E-TwoW.
How would you say this compares to the emove cruiser s
Great question. The Cruiser S is faster and has longer range. The VMAX feels more modern and I like the suspension on the VX4 better. The brakes on the Cruiser are stronger, but that also means you have to be more careful using them because you can over-do it. The VX4 is more of a chill, ride-all-day don't-get-tired ride and the Cruiser is a little more work to ride if that makes sense. It feels like the VMAX is doing more of the work for you. Both are great rides. -Paul
Wow thank you for the great details response I love th videos and glad I have electric scooters
Also beast mode exist in all models of Vmax ? Can we activate it if is limited in 20km???thanks in advance...
On most models yes
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide thanks a lot for your quick respond!!!
I can't decide between this and the Segway G2 Max. I'm in Los Angeles. Which would you recommend? I can get them for within $100 of each other.
We would go with this and grab 10% off with code RIDERGUIDE and get a free lock too
What type (brand) of stand is being used?
It's from Amazon. I like it, but I don't feel like I can recommend it because it has leaked little spots of hydraulic fluid all over the carpet here at ESG. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide thanks Paul… i appreciate all the detailed informative content in your videos… because of that I made an excellent informed (knowledgeable) purchase because of the Honesty and Detailed Information in your videos… thanks for reply on the stand as well…
I don't know why but the way the front suspension is position makes me feel like it's gonna break
These guys have been making scooters since 2015, so I'm sure they've tested this design quite a bit. -Paul
I don't see a link to that pump in the description. :p

I'm about to spend $2,000 on an electric scooter. Can you explain what kind of batteries these scooters use and what the warranty covers?
Which scooter are you referring to ? If you click the link in description of this video the relevant info will be there.
I've checked the VMAX website but couldn't find any information about the batteries they use in their scooters. This information is crucial for my purchasing decision.@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
Pls review the circooter raptor
Thanks for the suggestion. Requests like yours help get scooters on our radar. We’ve had a few requests for circooter so far.
-Paul
Circooter mate please
Thanks for the suggestion. We don’t have plans to review one any time soon, but feedback like yours is what helps get scooters into our to do list. -Paul
I want this scooter so bad but they don't ship here in UAE! ❤💔
Hopefully that will change soon. VMAX headquarters is closer to you than it is to us! -Paul
bothers me that manufacturers decide to switch braking styles from bike to motorcycle style just because..
there is no foot brake or clutch lever.. no practical need to switch styles..
..i wont buy switched brake scooters or ebikes.. too confusing.
I always have to remind myself that bicycles are reversed from motorcycles. Fortunately when you have cables (not hydraulics) then you can swap which brake lever does which wheel in about 10 minutes. -Paul
13:22 the sad part is that the government won’t allow a vehicle to charge while it’s driving because they can’t capitalize on it. Any electric vehicle should be able to charge while tires are spinning at the same time but they only allow “REGEN”
By charging while riding, do you mean solar? -Paul
No…. Well Paul you should know of this headlight we are up there in age😅
I’m 49, when I was a kid I had a headlight on my bicycle that you clamped onto the forks and the headlight had a rod with thread that rub against the tire and while you were peddling, the headlight will come on, when you stoped peddling the headlight turns off, sort of like a generator.
I don’t know why they can’t make generators on these electric vehicles while driving and utilize the perpetual motion of the spinning wheels. Can you imagine riding your scooter with a third wheel under the deck or on the side spinning and charging like a windmill generating electricity while you’re driving, it’ll be self sustaining.
Cops looking at new scoot.. 👀
Thankfully they've always been cool to us during our riding and filming. -Paul
1:45 thank you for using British units. The US will always be a colony in some way hahaha Praise the superior QUEEN! 🌈

Thanks for the heads up! Always interested in learning about new scooters. -Paul
Fantastic video Paul. Would Raemaer been able to complete the same SF Loop on the VX4?
Unfortunately not at the moment!
Awesome Paul! VMAX Vx2 Pro owner here!
Thank you so much! It was fun bringing the VX2 back in this one! Great scooter! -Paul
*_Wow! You know you're in for a great treat (electric scooter review) when you see one that exceeds half an hour from Paul, Ramier and the ESG/RG Team. This is an excellent scooter. Setting the Segway Ninebot Max as the standard or point of reference, this is a level up. I love the display, the long range and IP rating, also include the turn signals and front/rear suspensions. It would have been (almost) perfect if they made puncture-proof self-healing pneumatic tires, too, like that of our reference. RS always, guys. BTW, SF is a beautiful city._*
Thank you so much! I was shooting for 20 minutes, but ended up being kind of extra on this one. Once you shoot that much footage, it's hard to throw away. :-) -Paul
Low watt motors = more strain on the motor, especially on hills. More heat on long rides = less durability. Straining motor uses more electricity 😮 Higher watt motors will last longer, with less stress and heat up hills, and less heat and stress on long rides🎉 Faster scooters can quickly get you out of the path of a fast approaching car.
Awesome job Paul !
Thank you! Cheers!
Would the Roadrunner V2 make it up that San Francisco 20% hill ?
That’s a great question. I’m really not sure. It’s harder for scooters with large diameter wheels. I’m going to guess no. 10% is not problem and hills steeper than 10% are relatively rare in most cities. -Paul
How do you record your voice in all of this? It sounds so good!
Thanks. I’m using a DJI Action Cam 4 and DJI Mic 2.
The wind-noise suppression is so strong it can almost ruin live narration by making it sound like voiceover. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide thank you, Paul. I got my first scooter today because of you. Best youtuber out there! Vmax VX5 Pro!
First ✌🏻🤠 wish they sell it here in 🇬🇧. All the best from London.
Hopefully soon! You're closer to headquarters than we are. :-) -Paul
I'm curious if there will be any legal issues with calling this scoot the VMAX given that theres a VMAX gas scooter from I believe Suzuki or Yamaha.
Good question. Long ago Yamaha made a v4 sports cruiser called the Vmax. I'm not sure if they still do. I know that trademarks usually allow for things which are different-enough, to use the same name. Like you could have a Mazda Millenia, and you could have a Millenia toaster. I'm sure VMAX did some research on this first, since it's their whole brand. They've been around since 2015 in Europe. -Paul
Thanks for a very informative and well made video. I have been on the fence about getting an alternative means of transportation. My job is around 6 miles from home, so my 12 mile round trip is not really a commute (if you can even call it that), but I want to be less dependent on fossil fuel. Besides, watching all these videos makes me feel I’m missing out on something. It just looks so much fun riding it!
I have it in my cart now and using the discount code you provided, not much but any penny counts. What convinced me is the range (I can go places other than work and not worry about parking!!) and seeing Ramier on it. I am 230 lbs so other brands I have checked out top out at max 265 so it’s too close to my weight.
I really like your gear too. I will definitely need a helmet or my wife will not let me go outside and play. Any recommendations? I’m digging the motorcycle helmets I’ve seen you guys wear. Where can I get one? Thank you for helping me make my decision.
a.co/d/8XY7NtZ something like this is decent for sure!
Hi Paul, where is more scooter store in San Francisco?
There's Fluid Freeride, the one we profiled in a video a few weeks back, but also PEV-works who we'll go visit soon and make a video about too! -Paul

This or the varla Pegasus? Also how’s the suspension doesn’t look like a lot
This! Suspension is decent for sure!
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide also whas the difference between this and the r40 pro its cheaper and seems to have the same specs
