    Great video very clear and helpful. Yesterday we pulled our Kenmore out from its nook and there was a lot of dust built up in the vents. We vacuumed them thoroughly and pushed the refrigerator back in its nook. Once the refrigerator started running here was no more sound. But then it started up again but not as loud. I’m going to try doing what you did in this video to see if it’s the fan hitting ice, thank you again for this clear, concise repair video. Stay tuned!

      We unplugged the refrigerator and let it defrost. Heard ice fall. This morning there was some water on the floor but not too bad. We’re going to plug the fridge back in since it was cooling and freezing things.

    Thanks for saving thanksgiving leftovers! I defrosted overnight, the drain pan in the back had water but it looked like it was all draining from one side, so I carefully stuck a screwdriver in the other drain hole and moved it around until water started coming out. I didn't have to get into the back of the freezer. 10 minute fix after finding this video. So far so good!

    I found the motor that serves the refrigerator was frozen. The fan blade would not spin. Also, the freezer fan was making a loud noise. I removed the refrigerator fan and thawed it out with a hair dryer. The fan spins free now. The freezer fan noise was caused by ice build up behind it. I thawed it out also and everything seems fine.

      Great, make sure the drain line is not clogged. If so, that will cause the fan blade to look up.

    Appreciate you still responding to comments to help people out! I'm in the process of trying to fix this. I didn't have a steamer so I let it defrost for about 8 hours before attempting to tear it down. Once I got in there I noticed that there was water droplets from frost on the ceiling of the freezer. Behind the panel the coils and fan were wet but no build up of water below the coils. I gave the fan a spin and it sounded/felt fine. Double checked the drain tubes with a glass of water and they are functioning properly.
    Since there doesn't appear to be any replacement fans available to buy, I came here to check the comments and saw some people were mentioning that both fans were running. So I decided to plug my unit in to see if the fan was working. It started up fine/sounded fine but after 5-10 seconds it turned off. Not sure if this is an automatic feature or not since the freezer door was off still? Or is this not working properly?
    I didn't have the panel attached so I haven't checked the second (right) fan.
    Should I button it back up and see if that worked? I'm just not sure how to tell if the fan is spinning properly with the back panel covering it. And then if that doesn't work, and there's no fan replacements to buy, is there any course of action I can take?

    • @onlineappliancetech
      @onlineappliancetech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's great to hear that you're actively working on fixing your freezer and diligently checking each component. Here are some thoughts on your situation:
      Fan Operation: The fan turning off after 5-10 seconds might be a normal response, especially if the freezer door is off. Some models are designed to stop the fan when the door is open as a way to conserve energy and maintain temperature. This could be why the fan stops shortly after starting.
      Reassembling and Testing: Yes, it would be a good idea to button everything back up and test the freezer in its normal operating state. This will give you a more accurate indication of whether your fixes have been effective.
      Monitoring Fan Functionality: Even with the back panel on, you can usually hear if the fan is operating properly. Pay attention to any unusual noises or fluctuations in sound that might indicate a problem.
      Checking the Second Fan: Since you haven't checked the second fan yet, ensure that it's also functioning correctly. Any issue with this fan could affect the overall cooling efficiency of your freezer.
      Dealing with Unavailable Replacement Parts: If it turns out that a fan does need replacement and you can't find the specific part, you might consider looking for universal or adaptable fan motors that could fit your model. Another option is to reach out to repair services or online communities for advice on compatible parts or alternative solutions.
      Professional Advice: If you've done all you can and the problem persists, it might be time to consult a professional. Sometimes, issues that seem simple can be more complex and require expert diagnosis.
      Remember, while DIY repairs can be rewarding and cost-effective, freezers are complex appliances. If you're ever unsure about a repair, it's best to seek professional help to avoid further damage or safety risks.

    Hey. I took the freezer appart and was able to defrost everything using a steamer.
    There was a large buildup of ice in the middle fan (freezer fan) and that large cover has ice throughout it.
    I decided to plug it in and just see if the left fan (refrigerator fan) and the coils did anything while the other fan was unplugged. The left fan started right up and the coils got cool pretty quickly.
    After i gave the center fan and cover a good cleaning i reattach the cover. Boy is that a pain to put back in.
    I tested the 2 drain lines in the freezer and both worked the first time. There is a 3rd drain line - I'm not sure where that is at.
    I'm trying to find that 3rd drain line and figure out why I'm getting water in my freezer. I'm not sure if the I've maker has low pressure or what. But my ice in the icemaker would melt. It does seem there is a little trail of (dried up) water from the icemaker down the back of the fridge.
    Do you have any advice for the water or that 3rd drain line? Thanks

    I appreciate your thorough explanation and all the steps. I found this video very helpful. I had the refrigerator fan motor replaced today. It had ice buildup. But that did not solve the problem. What could be the issue now?

    • @onlineappliancetech
      @onlineappliancetech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Did a technician replace the fan motor, or did you manage it yourself? After the fan replacement, it's crucial to ensure that the drain line is clear, as shown in the video. Also, if a technician handled the motor replacement, did they verify the voltage going to the DC fan motor? A lack of voltage could indicate a problem with the main board, a scenario I've encountered previously.
      Once the fan was replaced, were you able to feel airflow in the fresh food section near the damper, and did the system function correctly? To determine if the Main Control Board might be at fault, you can unplug the appliance, remove the main control, and inspect for any burnt marks on the MPC front and back.
      I understand this can be quite complex and wish I could offer more hands-on assistance. Unfortunately, it's challenging to provide detailed help online. Wishing you the best of luck with the repair!

    Thanks for this video. It's very helpful. I have 2 questions:
    1. I assume the freezer was working but the fridge was not getting cold. Is that correct?
    2. Might I just go straight to the drain line and blow into it with my steamer to clear the blockage? If that doesn't resolve the issue, then replace the fan?
    Thanks again.

    • @onlineappliancetech

      You can pull the bottom drawer out and see if you have water at the bottom of the freezer. If you do have water that would indicate your drain line is clogged. If not that would indicate your fan is probably defective. Hope this helps!

    My dad and I did all of these steps and it’s cooling again! We replaced both fans because there was so much ice build-up that it shocked both of the motors. Now 24 hrs later we noticed that the right fan is always on, it never shuts off. Before they would both shut off when you opened their corresponding door. However when I open the freezer door it stays on. My dad believes it should be the sensor thats next to the fan to the right, that’s not receiving the signal for the fan to shut off when the door is opened. Could we get some insight please, we feel we almost have it fixed 😅 we can almost claim victory!

      Yes, just like in the video, if the drain is clogged, ice will then form and lock up the fan blade. Or, if it's the fan itself or the main control board not sending power to the fan motor.

      Did you clean the airflow? If the airflow is restricted by ice, you can replace the fan motors. However, if you don't remove or flush the ice with a steamer, you will still have restricted airflow. If you have a steamer, use it to flush out the ice. Alternatively, if you have another fridge, unplug the affected fridge and leave the doors open for two days, then see if it works. If it still doesn't work, the problem might be a shorted MPC. Hope this helps!

Plugged it back in and within an hour fridge was down to 50. 4 hours fridge was at 35. I left it plugged in overnight and woke up this morning air flow was 0 and was closer to 50 again. First, unplug the device and carefully detach the main control from the rear. Disconnect the harness and remove it from the unit. Using a flashlight, flip the main control over onto a soft cloth or hold it in your hand. Check for any burn marks on the transistors. In my experience, there was an instance where the issue was with the control board not supplying power to the MPC. Alternatively, a malfunctioning fan could have shorted the MPC. @onlineappliancetech  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's an interesting issue you've got there. Unfortunately, it's the kind of problem I'd need to be physically present to troubleshoot. One possibility could be a faulty thermistor. Were the evaporator coils on the left side covered in ice? If so, that might be the root cause. Additionally, if you've noticed ice or frost accumulating throughout the freezer department, it might be obscuring the sensor. This could prevent the main control board from sending power to the freezer's evaporator fan motor. Hope this information is helpful!

    My fridge isn’t getting cold. We replaced the fans which seemed to help but after several weeks the fridge started warming up and freezer works just fine. We have had an appliance repair assess it and they couldn’t diagnose it and just said it was defected. But everything worked fine for 3 years. If it was defective wouldn’t it have shown signs earlier if it was defective? We do notice a lot of ice build up around the door of the freezer and inside the freezer.

    • @onlineappliancetech
      @onlineappliancetech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If there's significant ice buildup around the door, it indicates that your door seal or gasket isn't closing properly. This situation leads to your evaporator working overtime to remove heat. Ideally, the evaporator should only remove heat from the inside of the refrigerator, not from outside the unit. However, when outside air gets pulled in, the evaporator tries to remove this extra heat, which can be brought in by the evaporator fan motor. This process can result in the fans getting locked up, subsequently preventing your fresh food compartment from cooling effectively.

    My 111 is not getting any voltage at the compressor...I checked power at the capacitor and no voltage there as well..I checked the the resistance of the capacitor and it matches what the tag says 12 micro farads...any ideas?

    • @onlineappliancetech
      @onlineappliancetech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue might be related to the main power control, which could be failing to send power to the relay. This power should ideally be 120 AC volts to the compressor. It's worth noting that the Capacitor is extremely reliable and seldom fails.
      You can examine the relay to determine whether it's receiving power. The relay should be connected to two wires that originate from the main control. If there's no power, the Main Power Control (MPC) could be the culprit.
      In such a case, you should disconnect the MPC and measure the resistance (OHMS) on the relay. If it shows an open line, consider replacing it. I hope you find this information helpful!

    • @onlineappliancetech
      @onlineappliancetech  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fantastic news! You're ready to use! When there's a blockage in the drain line, water tends to pool at the bottom. Subsequently, the fan unintentionally moves this water towards the fan motor zone. This water can freeze, leading to the potential jamming of the fan blade.

    What it the coils are frozen on the fridge side what could be the problem?

    • @onlineappliancetech
      @onlineappliancetech  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the coils are frozen, it could be due to the drain line backing up, causing water to freeze on the evaporator coils. Another possibility is that the fan's RPM is too slow, which doesn't remove moisture at the appropriate rate, leading to frost buildup. Alternatively, there might be a defrost problem. You mentioned the left-hand side, correct? That side is typically for the fresh food compartment, while the right is for the freezer. If it's the left-hand side you're referring to, I suggest following the steps in the video. Ensure that the fan is functioning correctly and isn't obstructed, and check for clogged drain lines. It sounds like a defrost issue, which could be related to the main control, the heater, or the sensor. I hope this helps!
