    I’m just over a years time I have gone far down the sim racing rabbit hole. What started as looking to get a g920 after playing my nephews set up
    Quickly escalated to my first set up of a csl dd with boost kit, v3 pedals mounted to my desk and a diy base for the seat and pedals. Decided to upgrade from my old 24” 1080 monitor to a 32” 2K. That led to an upgrade to the pc which escalated real fast, went to a sim center and that led to adding two more monitors for triples. Which led to a 4090. Full aluminum profile rig was in there as well as the csl was already flexing my professional desk. Pedals were first to go as a set of sprints came available. Then Black Friday led to a dd2. Most recently decided to get carried away and jump up to triple 48” oleds. Most racing I do only requires 2 pedals and the paddle shift. But getting into drifting and finally set up my shifter and picked up a handbrake. Now looking to add the clutch pedal purely for drift.
    So if you enjoy it. Definitely save a few Pennie’s to just jump to the equipment you really like up front.
    As mentioned. The pedals will make a huge difference in control and lap times.

    I originally started sim racing in the early 1990's, before it was referred to as "Sim Racing". The multi-user interface was very sketchy and sometimes it didn't work at all. It was a dial-up modem connection... Yes, I'm old. But then children came along and my focus shifted to raising them and participating in their lives. 2 years ago my son bought a Logitech G920 and a subscription to iRacing and we both got hooked. He did the oval racing and I did the road racing. He moved out and got a new account and I inherited the original. I just bought a new PC to replace my 11 year old PC an got the triple 27" monitors which are sitting on a wall mounted section of very thick, very sturdy countertop that I made into a desk that is 11 feet long. I built a wooden seat base large enough to mount the pedals and attached a race car seat from a local racing supply shop. I still have the G920 wheel mounted to the desk but I'm planning on to upgrade that to a DD unit, probably a Moza R12 with a round rim and a GT style rim. As for now there are several pedal sets I am considering but at the rate that new equipment is coming to the market it's hard to say what I'll end up getting. An aluminum profile rig is also in the works but the same is true for those. The market is just saturated with them but I do like the Trak Racer TR160...

    • @thesimracingshaolinstudent
      @thesimracingshaolinstudent  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I remember modulator/demodulators as I'm that old too 👍🏻 Those were the days. Glad you stuck with it though. Once you're hooked you're hooked. I hear you with the amount of kit that's coming out now, but I guess that helps us by driving down the prices 🤞🏻 I love the TrakRacer products. If I did switch to an aluminium profile rig it would have to be something very special to catch my eye and move my attention from TrakRacer.

    The most important thing is to define space you can allocate for sim racing. From there You can determine screen type and rig type. And from there You can think of getting best bedals and how to place them on rig/wheel stand or whatever. The point is. If one have only desk to operate, first thing is to set it up as best to blend in race/rally with mind. Thinking about 8020 with no place to set it up only can give frustrations taking all the pleasure from the hobby.

    the mazda cup car on Northsleife with H pattern shifter is a blaaast!!!!! but deffo agree on the need of H pattern as yes 80% of the time you will drive with shift plates on wheel. same as drifting you don't have to buy handbrake! because when you learn drifting properly you will notice that you touch handbrake very rarely. Plus H pattern is useful just to create that muscle memory and become better driver on the road. My journey started back in 1999 focusing only on rally race. now Im old and reaction isn't there any more so went for a gentleman sport called circuit racing. owned 5 rigs in my lifetime starting ACME spring wheel back in 2006 then moved to g920 then thrustmaster tx then thrustmaster xw and now spend it all on still not high end but high quality rig of fanatec dd2 and the entire fanatec eco system. I do hate aluminium profile rigs as they look very industrial and boring but from modification side yes it is the best way to go.... great video and some great tips!

    My biggest mistake was buying the G29 as my first FFB wheel. I got lured by reviews where it was presented as "the best beginners wheel". And after a month it drained all the enthusiasm I had for simrasing. The driving experience is just not good. Especially at rally racing where isn´t almost any FFB, just rattling. Spend little bit more if you can and buy some DD wheelbase. The Fanatec DD 5 nm is only 200€ with tax and everything right now with nice upgradability path later on.

    buy once: that piece of advice right there is worth more than its weight.
    i stopped going to any store with the mindset of: if i buy a cheap one, and dont like it, no loss. right?
    wel, most of the times i ended up liking it, and just like you, i had spent money i could have used to buy a more decent rig.
    example ( not sim race related)
    i started playing airsoft about 12 years ago, however, i knew i was going to like it, so when the guy in the shop showed me some gear, i had to say: " imi sorry sir, but im not here to buy cheap crap, im here to buy gear that is of a high quality standard and will last me a long time.
    so he put away the 400 ish quid AR, went to the back and showed me a 2000 euro FCC AR. bought it straight away, the seller looked at me funny but here is the thing: im still using that airsoft AR to this day, while a lot of the other guys are on their 4th or even 5th gun.
    i bought a G27 way back when they first came out, used it till it broke on me, but never bought another one, and got a bit bored of sim racing.
    these days, the sim racing bug is biting me again, and im gathering as much information as i can to buy my own setup ans have a pretty good idea on whayt to get.
    nice solid advice you gave there!

      been dropping my eye on fanatec DD, + the gt3 steering wheel ( stil debating if im going for the full circle shape or the flattened circle if you know what i mean.)
      as for pedals, im not sure yet, would like to stay in the same brand, but if there are better options out there ( like the ones you stated) im willing to compare all of them.
      another thing you mentionod: handbreak, shift and third pedal.... i will most likely never use them, and like you stated, why buy if you dont need them right? :D
      im stil comparing my options, but fanatec seems to be the way to go at the moment.

      upgraded the csl with a quick release
      bought the gsi hyper-p1 steering wheel ( costed an arm, but ill never have to buy another wheel lol)
      funny story: i was looking into another pedal set, as the fanatec one i have, i dont really like the load cell setup, so i was looking into something different.
      trough research, and ( lol) stumbeling on your video yet again after 9 months, by the end of the week ill be ordering the asetek invicta. really like the look of that set.
      side note: since i have a profile rig, i am now also using it to play other games with my HOTAS ( hand on throttle and stick).

    I think your options is too expensive to buy if you are a beginner. You should buy the cheapest loadcell pedals you can find like thrustmaster t-lcm. They are about 200 dollars, and you should consider logitech g29 or thrusmastwe t300 as your base and wheel. That is imo the best beginner set you can buy.

    • @Ddofik

  • @ldsk938
    @ldsk938 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    you need to consider where people are based. not everyone can just go out and get a fanatec or a moza. because its simply not imported to there regen in big bulk so you end up paying 4 to 7 times more for said item. my g29 cost me 5k when i got it few years back, but to get a moza r5 bundle is 5 and half times that price. its more about what you can get. secondhand market you dont really find things you dont have and when you do there is alot of people looking for it so they boost the price.
