This set looks a lot better in-hand than I originally thought. I'm glad to see that the red dragon has actual eyes (as prints on the edge of the red wedge plates making up the head, which is inspired). Excited to pick this up!
I like the way the set looks a lot. I really wish the adventure book was not something we had to spend points on though. It should have been part of the GWP to be honest.
@@TheBigdogal Not quite, but close. If I did my math right, the set will net you 2340 points, so it comes a little shy of the 2700 needed for the booklet.
You do actually get enough points, the website says so. What I’m more concerned about is whether you can actually order the book without having to pay for shipping, since I assume you get credited for these points AFTER the purchase and therefore have to place two orders. Also, if your Lego store doesn’t participate in the Lego Insiders program you’re stuck with having to purchase online, which is not everyone’s preference.
@@TheCoolFactor Thank YOU Mike. I learned alot. I used to play D&D but like when I was 11-13. And that was 30+ years ago. So I've forgotten many of the common items and names. Your descriptions were very thorough. Makes me want to go out to buy it for all the great storytelling features. I guess the only thing I could say is with all the reveals, does it ruin the game play knowing where alot of the items are in the Lego set?
The more I think about this set, even after the review, the more I adore it :) The story alone is worth getting into. Set of the year candidate? Thank you for watching!
Great review, Mike! I agree with others that the set looks much better in the review than in the images that have been posted. In particular, I originally thought that the dragon was the worst part of the set; but, after your review, I see that it actually looks really, really good from most all angles. I'm especially glad that there are printed eyes, which could not be seen in the pictures. The storytelling integrated into this set is amazing, and while I haven't played this game in many years, I'm actually interested in trying it our with my wife and kids now! Looking forward to getting this one.
I hope this is a start of a whole D&D line :) I am going to buy this set for two reasons, first, I really like it, and second, I want to support this theme :)
@@qwickiegaming8597 Nonsense. Other manufactures have to make manuals, too, and they don't charge an arm and a leg for the whole set. And most of them just print everything. LEGO is just too expensive for what you get.
@@lupolinar yes but this is Lego, and they collab witth legit companies they have millions of fans like Disney dungeon and dragon now? Also their product is highest tier
@@qwickiegaming8597 You seem to be stuck in the past. Mattel has Pokemon and Master of the Universe (just two exaples), others like CADA have licenses from Mercedes Benz, the german BlueBrixx has the Star Trek license or Cobi has various car and plane brands licenses - all for brick built stuff. Also, saying LEGOs "product is highest tier" shows me, that you don't know what their quality could be, if LEGO really tried. You pay for the name, not the quality.
@@lupolinaryea they could be better but their customer service and pieces are already I think the best it could be, material wise and longevity. Compared to its competitors legos have themes from many companies that have already capture many fans at heart.
I love all the actual physical loot there is to hand out to players! My group is six people, but I'm so going to run this when one of them can't show up for some reason.
Two mimics. One disguised as a treasure chest and the other disguised as a bed. Plus the GWP exclusive to this set that's an oversized treasure chest mimic that doubles as a dice box.
The biggest problem is the dragon's wings, why doen'st they have printings on them? They have done it for ninjago sets under 100$ and not for a 350$ set? Come on, now the first things you see are two big orange spots in the middle of a super-detailed and good-looking set... They didn't even use spikes to hold the wings (it's easy to replace, but still... Bad taste)
I’d say compared to other Lego sets the price is about adequate. But compared to Non-Lego (especially the ones that equal or surpass Lego‘s quality) it is definitely too much.
This is the best review of this set that I have seen. Red dragon tale is my new fave lego set and I dont even play dnd or collect castle or medieval tho I do like some other similar sets esp fantasy. Also my first day 1 buy since Rivendell.
I'm planning to get this in due course, to go with my castle and town setup when I finished sorting out what I plan to do with the setup, space is limited in where I setup but I should produce a nice little setup
Great review Mike! As someone who is not really familiar with the DnD the pricing is the only thing that doesn't convince me, specially comparing it to Lion Knights Castle. Its still a superb build fit for its purpose and of excellent design.
16:09 Wait! There's a brassiere from a human school? Lady's underwear from a school? In a LEGO set even an 18+ one? What the...? I think you mean a 'brasier from a human skull' 🤣
A friendly note: the minis included (The MiniFigs, dragon, gelatinous cube, displacer beast, beholder, skeletons, owlbear and myconids.) add up to about 100$ if one goes by Nolzur's Minis, which are generally considered default miniatures. And you don't have to paint them, so that does increase the value. Those are reusable for DnD outside of this adventure. And it comes with Terrain, and an adventure. For THAT from a DnD standpoint? That's valuable. Someone else compared it to lego, you have the casual fans who won't be interested in paying more than 50$ for a set, and won't be using minis or terrain or anything beyond the basic rules and theater of the mind (fancy term for imagining everything that's going on) and the more advanced fans who DO buy the $300+ dwarven forge terrain sets.
The way lego advertises this set is just disgusting.... They create some panic around it who does not want to have that book why is the mimic not included in the set and why is the book not included in every set and can be bought with points aswell. The set overall is very nice no complains except the sticker again 360€/$ guys its not a rip of but this time they just want you to buy from their store because if you maybe buy it later on Amazon you ofcourse wont get the mimic an neither the booklet since you get inw with the buy on lego and the other with the points you get from the buy (if you dont already have some). So overall poor marketing but i think if you are a fan its quite nice i guess.
I'd say yeah. I thought originally like $50 too high, but with all the new prints, exclusive figures and the extra booklet with the character sheets, etc and the license put it in that range. Plus they commissioned that artist to do that exclusive art for the booklet covers.
@@carterplowman5548 Oh, I thought the booklet was included with the set. Well, that sucks...lol. But the new prints, figures and license does jack the price with Lego.
