Lego prices in general are just outrageous. the problem is that their base is no longer parents buying for children, but adults buying for themselves. this changes everything from a marketing and pricing standpoint.
Yeah lego need to start offering more budget themes for kids. I remember when I was a kid we had power miners and Atlantis themes. Lego needs to bring those themes back.
@@switchplayer1016 yeah I liked the golems and drills from that era. I'm always going for castles, space, or star wars. unfortunately those seem to be the most expensive. it's not a bad thing that adults are enjoying Lego, but they need to have more awareness as consumers as to when they are enabling a predatory relationship.
I think it even smarter than that, its adults who think they buy it for their kids but (un)consciously buying it for themselves too. My kid, now 14, is still a massive Lego fan and I happily buy stuff for him but through that kinda relive my own childhood if that makes any sense? The genious is that it appeals both to children and the adults paying for it.
@@ageoflove1980 so then you're just making the same point I am. the target customer is no longer kids, but grown ass adults with disposable income. sure there are still some purchases for kids, but they know where their bread is buttered, especially with larger sets.
Well this set is 18+, so it’s not meant for kids. Personally, I like that Lego is also targeting the older demographic now, and not just making toys for kids. But since most people won’t be able to afford this castle, Lego also released the Galaxy Explorer at a very attractive $100.
I just got done building this set and I hate to say it, buuut I think this castle is totally freaking worth it. This is the Lego castle set the defied all my expectations, it's also the only one with kick butt interiors that are actually historically freaking accurate. Every previous Lego castle gate tower ends up being dead space but on this one, the top floor armory might be my favorite detailed room in the whole build. (this is also where the armory is supposed to be in real castles) When I fold it entirely open it pretty much fills up my entire desk space and the price per piece on this is a still good deal Lego wise, it's as if inflation didn't affect this one Lego set. Every wall and tower is set at a different height and the angles + exterior/interior circulation make this a very dynamic set visually and spatially no matter what angle you view it. I went to school for architecture and this set is a win considering everything I studied. Good Job Lego! I'm quite impressed!!!!
I agree. I was almost shaking when I bought it, and my parents yelled at me for wasting my money. When I was done building, even then said it was worth it in the end! Best Lego set ever imho
I agree. This and Barrucuda bay set, I will never regret buying. I regret not buying another Barucuda bay set and think I may feel the same way about this. That being said, I think the midevil village is overpriced and bland and won't be buying that one.
@@PlazDreamweaver unfortunately it's the same as cuts of meat. Lego has had a popularity increase, so what do they do, maximise dollars in and exploit the customer. Chuck steak and other tough cuts of meat were almost unsellable, sold as meat for the dog, cheaply. Then slow cookers became popular and people started using these cuts of meat, now it sells for almost as much as ribeye. It's completely unethical, but businesses always find an excuse to milk the customers for as much money as possible, huge mark-ups.
The new castle is so impressive. The details are absolutely beautiful. Wishing I had the space and the budget to add this to my collection. Thank you for the review!
It looks good, and I'd be tempted to buy it at $300, but $400 is too much! For comparison, Ninjago City Gardens is $100 cheaper and has almost 1,200 more parts. And Diagon Alley is a LICENSED set at the same price but has 1,000 more pieces. Just saying...
When were those two sets released? Everything, not just Legos, has gone up in price. Fuel prices have more than doubled since last year and is the main reason for the drastic high price in most items
I'm comparing it to current prices, not projected future prices. And older sets becoming more expensive doesn't mean that new expensive sets are now a good value; it just means those older sets will be less of a value. And I'm not discrediting inflation or even condemning them for wanting to increase profits (they are a company after all); but I also don't have to buy their product when I don't think it's a good value.
So Coooool! 🥰 reminds me of being a little girl in the 90s playing with my ‘King Leo’s Castle’ play set. I spent HOURS playing with legos as a child and LOVED building larger sets with my Mama (She was always SO supportive of my ‘ADDICTION’, and often encouraged me to tear sets apart and create my own, but she always kept the instructions safe in her file cabinet for when i inevitably wanted to rebuild months later, lol) Lego Knights, Rock Raiders, Johny Thunder, Lego City, Lego Island…GOOD TIMES 🥰.
Considering the size and the details it probably is worth the cost. It's just sad that I could never afford the really cool castles as a child and now even as an adult I still can't afford them :(
May I just say that this is one of the best set reviews I have ever seen. Absolutely spectacular production quality, great commentary, and it covered all of the important and fun details of this large set without feeling drawn out. Really outstanding job by Adam and Beyond the Brick!
@@tmp7341 Sure, but that's hardly applicable to LEGO. You don't really need a review for it, you already know what you're getting just by looking at the product page, there's no hidden gotcha's or fakeness, it's just lego, plastic bricks. Personally, I watch these videos just to get a better idea of the size of a built set since you can see it next to a person.
@@fennec6341 not offending but to note in medieval times i dont think women would really be knights or soldiers now the queen can be cool but thats more to inspire the soldiers
My husband and I are huge fans of the Castle / Kingdoms series. We'll actually be buying this and putting it away until our two boys are older (they're still in the Duplo stage) to build and play with as a family. The price tag hurts a bit, though, I agree I'd price it more to $300 than $400.
@@macnavi yes, and that is off course much more important than investing the 400 you pay now to have a great time with your family and create some memories that'll stick with the kids. Not everything is about the money all the time.
I just finished this build. Haven’t built a Lego set since I was a kid. My mother got me this for my birthday and wow. I absolutely love it. I’m surprised how advanced Lego has gotten. Each little nook and cranny is used for some purpose. There’s a cave section with two bats under the castle and after it’s built it’s completely inaccessible. And in the stone work of the build has little gold blocks inside the stone which can’t be seen. I kept grabbing my girlfriend and showing her these little “why did they do this?”. I would never have boughten this for myself and having owned the 95 castle as a kid, I was so full of nostalgia while building this. I love it. And my kids loved watching me build it. We are going to have so much fun with this build. I got a bunch of extra small pieces while building this, idk if that’s normal or what not. But the horse stable, I didn’t receive the little wooden gate that covers that nook. I also love how many female characters there are. Legos used to have just smiley faces and it’s neat to see what they’ve come up with.
I wonder if the different colors for hidden interior pieces were to help clarify the instructions so you have a reference point? Like the old white dots on some of the classic baseplates.
You usually get a bunch of small extra parts. You can contact lego customer support about the missing piece so they can send it to you, I’ve heard that they are great!
@@Coffeenaut My castle was missing an insert bag (was supposed to be in bag 16), and to simplify the process they sent me all of the parts that came in bag 16, plus some extras. So I think their customer service was great, and I ended up with a nice collection of extra light gray bricks and arches.
Female characters are ok, but "female knights" (and female vikings, female "everything") are complete unhistorical modern gender ideology. Ich wish Lego would stop that nonsence immediately.
The white carrot is actually a parsnip that was already featured in the farmer's red pick up truck (set 10290). Excellent review! My wife and I, who are closet nerds) especially loved the references to the Holy Grail! Too bad Lego doesn't make coconut shell halves that the one figure could hold!
3:06 Notice how the Maltese Cross shield is still in the picture of the original set, but not featured in the corner with the rest, nor included in the set. It's a bit disappointing since that crest was used historically by the Knights Hospitaller, a militant order that operated hospitals, making them some of the more interesting figures of the crusades and beyond.
I LOVED the LEGO Castle sets growing up. Me and my older brother got many sets as kids. Now that I'm an adult I can get these bigger sets, and you can be sure I'm gonna get this one.
So, utilizing all of my castle Lego from the 1980s and '90s and with help from Ebay, I built a very respectable castle and town in the basement for my kids (okay, mostly for me) over Covid. I thought, no more castle... it's done... don't get crazy... And then I saw this set and realized my castle needs a $400 renovation.
I found a second hand lego store that sells minifigs for like 1.50$ a piece. From powerminers to exoknights and policemen, varying in cost depending on how much stuff they have on them. They also sell old star wars fighters for about 6$. Really impressive variety. Haven't been really spending anything on LEGO directly tbh
I just bought this the other day. One thing I really like about have a job while still in highschool is I can afford massive sets like these. I knew the price would only go up from there.
kinda makes me sad that lego isn't making as many new sets meant for play like this one (Clearly this one is a nostalgia piece for grown ass people but still). Most sets in the early 90s were full of action features and could be built in a number of ways like 2 or 3 in one sets. The newer sets lego is putting out are more detailed, more intricate to build but are basically static dioramas once built. a GREAT EXAMPLE OF THIS is the hogwarts express which is 100% just a display piece when it couldve been designer more for play (but since they know no parent is forking over 500 to give to a toddler they made a toy for adults) And this is sorta the issue i have with modern lego, its mainly toys for adults. not as many cheap and funn builds as in the 80s and 90s where make believe was the main selling factor. I get they do avengers and marvel sets but that's not an original IP like these sets. No really original small builds with a clear story and characters in a very specific situation. No more thief running from cops or explorer in a temple full of traps with a sleeping dinosaur . Ya know, 90s stuff. Dinosaurs, indiana jones, 007, volcanos and medieval stuff.
Although the set is expensive, I think it is good because it allowed lego to let loose and make a massive set for the die-hard fans to enjoy which they couldn't of done in the 80s and 90s but they probably should have also made a cheaper set for those who had nostalgia but can't afford it
As a classic castle fan who was on the fence about this. This video 100% sold me on this. Plus. It may be the first video I’ve watched from start to finish. Well done @antbandit
Generally most sets sell for about $.10 per piece. Technic tends to cost a bit extra and licensed sets can vary by a lot. The lego infinity gauntlet is about $.135 per piece which is about 35% more then a normal set. I'd say the set is actually about $50-$100 cheaper then expected.
Man, this set really reinforces my hope that lego will one day make a Lego Castle themed RTS game with each of the different factions as playable themes. I know it'll probably never happen, but it fits so well, and a man can hope. Nice review btw.
That price is insane but we get it. This was the first similar to the Lego set that I seen when was 3. I remember my cousin had his transformers toys right next to the Lego castle. After I started destroying the castle the only toy that my cousin would let me play with was the transformer that turned into a gun. after that I wanted toys.
Hefty price tag for that walk down memory lane. For that price tag I prefer sticking to my Castle Blaustein, Castle keep and outer bailey extension made by BlueBrixx. Clocking in at 12.000 pieces in total for 400 bucks and more extensions coming. Or if you prefer that same scale as the Lions Knight Castle they recently announced several pieces for a modular Bear Rock Castle.
@@bigscreenbird8198 they may not be Lego but they are just as good. Just without the over priced cost. I been buying more and more 3rd party brick sets because the builds are better and the quality has been just as good as Lego. While I like this castle because I owned the original yellow castle, the cost may keep me from it. Lego needs to realize they have competition and reign in their pricing and provide better builds.
I buy brick sets from other companies all the time. You can make a strong argument on many levels; bang for the buck, more pieces, better design.... BUT... they are definitely inferior to Legos when it comes to quality. The durability, precision, and quality control of Lego is unmatched to this day.
@@bigscreenbird8198 the problem is that Lego rlly doesn't have competition. they no longer sell to parents that buy for children either, they buy for adults like big screen bird in thid comment section that consoom every bit of nostalgia they can get a whiff of while staying fervently loyal the brands of old. Lego is totally happy charging more and catering to (exploiting) adults with no kids and disposable income. it's a travesty tbh.
What an amazing set. Really one of the best sets ever!! It’s ticks all the right boxes and I love it, it’s pretty big and that contributes to its amazingness. The price isn’t awesome but like you said it should’ve been priced near to $350 but with the price increases and because this is releasing in Aug it went up to $400. If only it released in July then we might have still have gotten for $350🥹but nonetheless if I get the chance, definitely will be picking it up
I wish they would have done the lion knights arms and legs in flat silver like their helmets. It would have been a nice upgrade and made them more similar to the new black falcons and their pearl dark gray legs and arms.
Outstanding review, guys! Concise, thorough, and fun to watch (although I was a little distracted by the constant waving of the hands, if I'm being completely honest.) I still have my original 375 and 6080 with their boxes - so this is going to be a phenomenal addition to the nostalgia shelves!
I love watching these reviews, can't wait to get my hands on this one! I've been waiting for the return of the castle series, and it's finally here! Already have a few additional wall and tower sections built in bricklink studio to really expand the set when the time comes.
I could see it at 250 but the 310-320 is fair imo should have had a king and the forest treemen be a seperate widely available set to go alongside it. Getting the GALAXY EXPLORER as imo the better set bias due to budget but avid fan of space as i liked benny and the overall aesthetic and had galaxy squad.
@@vietrounder For around 800-1262pcs your already looking at least a £100+ looking at guardians ship, millennium falcon 2019 and the Golden Dragon from Ninjago so when I look at the castle and combine those factors with it's scale and sheer size, minifigure selection more than fair.
@@mbphilipblack8993 maybe I am overlooking your point but if we are referring to piece count then $100 for 1200 pieces on the sets you’ve mentioned would justify the price tag of $400 on this castle considering it has 4500 pieces. The Kings Castle (1984 #6080) which was the big inspiration behind this set cost $53 ($140 by inflation) has 664x pieces. If you want to compare apples to apples/castle to castle, you’re getting 7x the amount for 3x the cost. Not to mention the overall build / design and content included in this new set way outshines anything Lego has ever produced in the Castle series. Don’t forget that the price of fuel and raw material has increased more than double in the last 6x months. The average Joe has no idea how much this has effected the price on EVERYTHING, not just Legos. Also, just a final fyi, the Chinese knock-off version of this set on Alibaba is already above $250.
@@vietrounder knock off is already above 250 because they know people will buy it anyways. Prices went up, that's true, but that goes true for average consumer as well. Year ago I would be more willing to pay 400 for this set than this year, since I can't really afford to spend that much in one go. This is anniversary set that suddenly is outside of many people spending reach. I would argue Lego would earn more if they were to slightly underprice it so they would sell much more copies. I personally was thinking about getting two, one on release and one more later, but now I don't think I'll get even one anyways.
@@nihili4196 Lego only allowed one per customer when I purchased it online on release date otherwise I would have bought two. I’m building the set right now. I’m about 5x hours into it and only about 1/4 done. Trust me when I say the price is completely justified when you physically see how much work goes into this and the amount that you are getting.
13:12 Completely agree with your comment on the pricing. At the beginning of your video, my impression already was that this should cost at max 360, even with all these minifigs. For 350, I probably would buy it (as soon as I can somehow get the money together...).
I'm definitely getting at least one of these. The build looks great, but I'm already planning what to do with it MOC-wise... combining it with my eight 3-in-1 Castle sets and the parts from my Disney castle, as well as my 90s-era Castle sets.
When it comes to medieval Lego sets, the “medieval blacksmith” shop (Lego Ideas #33) is the best I’ve ever seen. Solid review of the castle though. I was a bit disappointed with the structure/castle walls on this build. They could have done so much more. Decent value for the brick count though.
Love the Blacksmith, the castle doesn’t seem like a direct match to it unfortunately. The swords are very different, roof and building wood beams are different. Was hopping to start a midevil set
I've been a Lego Castle fan for many years, with this ninety year anniversary set, I'm excited to see the return of the Lego Castle series I grew up with: Lego Knights' Kingdom!
This set was supposed to be $350. Then inflation happened. They changed the price a little before the reveal. LEGO probably could have gotten by at $350, but the need to future proof their prices and I imagine this set will be available for at least three years.
@@JanskiPolanski That is not true. They do not raise prices all the time. This August 1st price hike is an anomaly. You are blatantly lying. You can have any position about price increases, but the position that “LEGO does this all the time” is a lie.
There are lego sets that increase in price by 10% at the beginning of the year and by another 25% in the middle of the year - this has nothing to do with inflation.
@@keinplan6961 I can’t speak to that. I live in the US, and there was no price increase in the beginning of the year. And at least here in the US, we had inflation at the beginning of the year. It was still high then.
I also like to think, the forestmen are slowly, trying to take over the lion knights castle. As they have two bases throughout the castle and they are like a Robin Hood faction.
Am I the only one who recognized that this castle is basically the Hornburg from Lord of the Rings? Same ramp before the gatehouse (minus the drawbridge) and curving side wall!
While I am a classic castle friend, I cannot justify spending $400 for a single NON-licensed set. I actually own several Classic Castle sets to include: Forest Man's Hideout, Forest Man's River Fortress, Wolfpack Tower, Dragon Master's Castle, Royal Knight's Castle etc. I own ALL of the 2007-2009 Lego Castle sets when they introduced trolls, dwarves, and skeleton knight's and necromancer......I own Valdek's Dark Fortress which is the biggest bad guy castle made. Needless to say I've seen a lot of castles, and the shortcuts like lack of printing for wizard, and amount of small pieces of this set is EXTREMELY disappointing for the price. To give you an idea: King's Castle Siege came with a huge dragon, 3 skeleton knights (one in armor) 4 foot soldiers, and a knight on horseback. It had 2 small and one huge firing catapult, a trap door, working drawbridge etc. When it came out in 2007, the retail for the price was $100! This is 4 times the amount and while it has micro rooms, there's no room to play in it. This is price gouging feeding off nostalgia. It's not going to draw anyone into Castle who wasn't a fan of those 1980 sets. As a general rule for me, any Lego set that's above $250 better be ridiculously amazing, have a huge amount of exclusive non-common bricks in it! I also fully expect a king to be included in this set as well as a jester! Giving me a few rare hair pieces is not going to cut it. It really saddens me Lego thinks a $400 price tag is reasonable asking for a set with a lot of basic pieces. Good job on the interview but it's a hard pass for me.
@@MartenFerret i didn't read it as a flex, but just as a disappointed castle fan. I'm in much the same boat as he is. I have a bunch of old stuff as well (many castle fans do), but this just seems like a price gouge that they think they can get away with due to our nostalgia. I was super excited for the set, thinking it was a sure buy, but after seeing it my heart sank with disappointment. I'm actually rather getting another 3 in 1 falcon castle and doing a combo build instead. It'll scratch the itch that I thought this was going to.
I hope they will bring back this theme and those factions in the shop someday, I really wish to see my kids having the same feeling as I had when I saw those kind of Lego Castle when I was one!
These idiots complaining can't do math and including letters and number next to each other like that will probably confuse them but I appreciate the effort.
Damn I was really hoping for a detailed breakdown of the price / value of the set. Kinda expected that from the title of this video. But good showcase of the castle nonetheless. I guess one could argue that every minifig stands for 3 to 4 $/€ times 21 that's 63 to 84. Each horse is 5 - another 10. The cow + goat + bird + bat's also 10. So that's Max 100€/$. Which means each half of the castle costs 150, as much as an entire modular building (if you subtract the minifigs there as well) Imo even that seems very overpriced. The original leaked 350 would have been much more reasonable. But no Set will have a good price/value after the price increase from Lego. I would really like to buy this set still, but I have no idea how to tell my wife. Nor my friends, who come to visit and would see this epic castle and ask how much it cost. If I tell them the price they consider me crazy.
Try looking into Castle Blaustein by manufacturer Bluebrixx if you're interested in value for money. For the same price, you'll get the base set and two expansions - about 12.000pcs in total for a model of unprecedented scale and realism. If you're into castles, I wholeheartedly recommend taking a look.
@@Kuchenwurst I was expecting cheap looking imitation, but it does look great! (I'm not very aware of the different lego alternatives). I have to admit, personally, it needs to be same stuff I had in the 80's / 90's or nothing. I'm half-disappointed that lego didn't use the old castle wall pieces for this! 😅 Lego has me firmly in their grasp.
08:27 Of course every castle needs a good dungeon…..and of course every modern interpretation places the dungeon in the WRONG PLACE! The word “dungeon” is derived from the French “donjon” which means “keep”- the keep being the tallest tower in the castle. Because in medieval times the only people really being kept in dungeons were gonna be the higher ups, no peasants being kept here! If a peasant broke the law they were simply fined or publicly punished and/or executed. They were never really held in dungeons because a dungeon isn’t a jail cell. Dungeons weren’t designed as prison cells. Originally as stated above they were another name for the keep of the castle, the tallest most secure tower of the castle where important things were kept. Including, on occasion, people. Typically it was daughters of other lords/nobility that had been kidnapped. They were put in the keep aka dungeon as it was the most secure place but were still free to roam the castle. The Rapunzel fairy tale is loosely based around this idea, which is to be expected as this is a 18th century story drawing from ideas of the medieval period same as we do today, so a lot is lost in translation and artistic license.
Whilst you are right about the etymology of the word, there are still plenty of examples of castles with underground prisons or holding cells. So this interpretation is not unrealistic.
what lego set isn't double (or more) the price it should be? this is a well designed set but it sure doesn't cost lego anywhere near $400 to produce. it's probably more like $50 in plastic, $25 in packaging and printing, $10 in labor and upkeep, and $5 in shipping. maybe less since they produce so much. the remaining $310 goes right into executive pockets.
lmao they release their profit margins this is all public information you are very far off. Maybe use that noggin on yours next time and actual look into things instead of just talking out of your ass
@@coralbricks Their profit margins are high but they are also public knowledge (around 26% last year). No where near the number this guy pulled out of his ass instead of simply googling to find out
Before your comment, I hadn't seen anyone point out that one shield pattern from the original yellow castle has been left out, and I hadn't noticed it myself from the pictures I've seen. Do you think it was a deliberate decision on Lego's part to leave out the one that resembles a cross?
@@impala6746 I know, I'm saying they would have but a lgbt flag shield and make sets but they won't put a Christian shield... Because knights were Christian
I have the 6080 King's Castle, which I got as a Christmas present when I was a kid. Somehow never lost a piece, and it's one of my favorite memories from my childhood. So yeah, I'm buying this, obviously. And I don't think it's overpriced at all. The per piece cost works out to 8.8 cents. That's not bad, especially for a flagship product. The UCS Millenium Falcon is over 10 cents a piece.
Im a big, big, Lego classic castle fan. This set is a must have. It just has 1 (big) flaw in it.. The heads of the knights.. al female.. i will replace them at the start with men heads. Just to stay classic. Its to bad Lego has to go woke with classic sets..
5:22 White carrots? are you sure they're not radishes? Also the water wheel is driving a millstone so they can mill flour. that's a really cool little detail.
I love seeing all of these play features, BUT cannot imagine any children actually playing with this 400 dollar model. I think Lego would have been very wise to split this into modules (similar to hogwarts) instead of releasing this for 400 dollars. The set is amazing, I just wish it was released differently.
It's not meant for children: it's meant for children who had the classic castle sets who are NOW adults. And I'm not saying that because the box says 18+, either.
@@insurrbution yes, that's exactly my point. so why are they adding play features like the adults are going to actually siege the castle? might be fun to build, sure, but i find extremely hard to imagine any adults really using them as they are intended. to me it is kind of a contradiction to charge this much for something but still try to make it appear as a playset when in reality it will most likely never be used that way. and that goes back to my original point about splitting this set up ino more affordable modulars so adults could collect them and kids could actually play with them
@@skyler2762 Because the old castles had play features too. This build is great and I love it. I also have the 3in1 castle at $100 so just go buy that and stop complaining.

@@gilneanskizwiadowca Imagine why there might be women putting on armor. There's no lord or king present in the set. In my mind, he is off on a battle or was taken along with many of his warriors leaving the lady of the castle in a tough position. Women might have needed to step up to defend the castle with the few men left behind. Regardless, LEGO Castle has never been historical. In a theme with dragons and wizards and tons of fantasy elements, there's no reason that in THIS world women can't be knights.
@@AntBandit Women can be knights in any world including the real world but that doesn't mean they should be knights. The fact that a world is fantasy does not mean that there are no rules in it or that it doesn't follow any logic. So it makes no sense to me that in a fantasy world modeled on a typical medieval Europe women are knights or as is often the case recently there are people with different skin colors. You may have a different view on it because you are probably an American but this is my feeling as a native European.
Yeah the idea of lego castle is a historic themed set (for adults if it’s $400). Adults know NOT ONE woman historically was ever a knight or warrior. Such pc crap
@@darbyohara First of all, don't be so rude pal. Yeah maybe one in whole army like Joan of Arc for example and counts in per mills or even more. In which percentage here are knights/soldiers "with lipstick" + one medieval queen in knight armor? There are 4 soldiers "with lipstick" and 4 normal ones, of lions (Crusaders). With queen that is more than 50% and that is insane joke even for non historically armies. Like what I said mine are going off and queen will be just a queen without horse sword and horse. That honorable place will take true warrior with knightly characteristics.
Yes, Lego went a little woke with all the female soldiers/knights. It's a very simple fix of just putting male heads on the bodies. Also, if I purchase this set, my queen will be converted into my king. The queen head, wig, and crown will go on a body similar to the maiden. This will bring everything back to normal. Easy peasy!
Pirates, Castle, and Adventure were my things.... I ended up buying Pirates of Barracuda Bay a few years ago.. Not sure I will be able to resist this. I hope it's not going anywhere soon. Going to take a while to afford... It would be cool if they could sell such a piece in modules that would could connect and expand over time at a more affordable price point.
Looks awesome, but I can't stand the forced quota of female knights and soldiers, ridiculously anachronistic and pointless. Come on, strong independent medieval fellow girls, let's put on our makeup (with lipstick and fake eyelashes) and our metal helmets and armour and let's go sharing some male privilege joining a bloody war campaign, fighting and dying in the mud! Yay!
Yeah you are right the ACTUAL Lion Knights never had women, but they did have wizards and dragons which are totally real and historically accurate. You neck beards and way too fucking sensitive you might have to swap some lego heads to have your all male dream squad. Small PP energy
*That's crazy, "female medieval warrior" come on LEGO!* *All soldiers were male.Period.* *When I get that set all soldier will be replaced by MALE soldiers, and a KING will be in charge.*

I’m more tempted to get it now.
And who would have thought it would drop $100 in price on Thanksgiving weekend 2023 😊
All Lego is currently over priced. I love the set but I can't support these price increases.

The prices for both those sets are going up though
When were those two sets released? Everything, not just Legos, has gone up in price. Fuel prices have more than doubled since last year and is the main reason for the drastic high price in most items
Prices of most sets are increasing soon.

So Coooool! 🥰 reminds me of being a little girl in the 90s playing with my ‘King Leo’s Castle’ play set. this comment made me smile of joy :-) Glad you had it amazing building as a kid too
Considering the size and the details it probably is worth the cost. It's just sad that I could never afford the really cool castles as a child and now even as an adult I still can't afford them :(

Your mom is nice.
I had a King's Castle when I was a kid in the mid 80s. Man I loved that set. So many quests I would send the knights on.
I remember getting the yellow castle back in the day, which seemed huge back then. This here is something else.
This is also so great for animation! The way it folds and detaches makes it easy for shooting
We need more castle sets like this

Haven't been really spending anything on LEGO directly tbh
I just got back into Lego. This castle is my childhood dream. Guess I'll have to locate it in Oregon to avoid the tax!
I just bought this the other day. One thing I really like about have a job while still in highschool is I can afford massive sets like these. I knew the price would only go up from there.

I never had any of the classic castle but I want to start a collection now. I hope they'll bring the castle theme back.
Every single lego set is OVERPRICED.
kinda makes me sad that lego isn't making as many new sets meant for play like this one (Clearly this one is a nostalgia piece for grown ass people but still).
Most sets in the early 90s were full of action features and could be built in a number of ways like 2 or 3 in one sets. The newer sets lego is putting out are more detailed, more intricate to build but are basically static dioramas once built.
a GREAT EXAMPLE OF THIS is the hogwarts express which is 100% just a display piece when it couldve been designer more for play (but since they know no parent is forking over 500 to give to a toddler they made a toy for adults)
And this is sorta the issue i have with modern lego, its mainly toys for adults. not as many cheap and funn builds as in the 80s and 90s where make believe was the main selling factor.

This has to be one of the most beautiful set i have ever seen. The minifigs, the look, the detail,... I just love it.
6054 forest hideout was the first set I ever had. Nostalgia for castle is real.

Clocking in at 12.000 pieces in total for 400 bucks and more extensions coming. Or if you prefer that same scale as the Lions Knight Castle they recently announced several pieces for a modular Bear Rock Castle.

Seeing as most of this comment was a flex, I'm sure you'll be buying this castle, if you haven't already.
@@MartenFerret i didn't read it as a flex, but just as a disappointed castle fan. I'm in much the same boat as he is. I was super excited for the set, thinking it was a sure buy, but after seeing it my heart sank with disappointment. I'm actually rather getting another 3 in 1 falcon castle and doing a combo build instead. It'll scratch the itch that I thought this was going to.

Only two horse riding knights in this big castle.
Now, if Lego could bring back the 9V trains from the early 1990s….I’d be game. This set looks amazing 🤩.

I have to admit, personally, it needs to be same stuff I had in the 80's / 90's or nothing. I'm half-disappointed that lego didn't use the old castle wall pieces for this! 😅 Lego has me firmly in their grasp.
The white carrot pieces have been used in the creator expert pickup truck which was out a year before this set. Amazing video tho!
Just got mine today finished kitchen and hideout so far
WAIT wheres the King???
killed by the leftist twitter mob
Always wanted them growing up and now I can finally get one!! Not in the budget but we will send it
Expensive? Yes. But…
$400: Ferrari 3778pcs
$400: Loop Coaster 3756pcs
$400: Castle 4515pcs
And don’t forget the 21 mini figs that come with it, many of which are brand new
Yeah I really don't get all the whining about the price.
@@bz6046 yeah- & the Ferrari had a $50 increase. i just have a preference for buildings that have a closed back.
I work at Lego and got this for 280. Totally worth it at that price.
what lego set isn't double (or more) the price it should be? this is a well designed set but it sure doesn't cost lego anywhere near $400 to produce. it's probably more like $50 in plastic, $25 in packaging and printing, $10 in labor and upkeep, and $5 in shipping. maybe less since they produce so much. the remaining $310 goes right into executive pockets.
Yeah you have no clue what you’re talking about.
@@bigscreenbird8198 why not?
lmao they release their profit margins this is all public information you are very far off. Maybe use that noggin on yours next time and actual look into things instead of just talking out of your ass
@@coralbricks Their profit margins are high but they are also public knowledge (around 26% last year). No where near the number this guy pulled out of his ass instead of simply googling to find out
@@RoyalCraftsandCreations yes that's true. last year that 26% profit was around 8 billion $...
Imma swap out most of the minifig heads when I get it, but other than that everything looks amazing
Sucks they didn't put the cross shield in there from the yellow castle... They will put a rainbow shield but not a cross.... Shame on lego
Before your comment, I hadn't seen anyone point out that one shield pattern from the original yellow castle has been left out, and I hadn't noticed it myself from the pictures I've seen. Do you think it was a deliberate decision on Lego's part to leave out the one that resembles a cross?
There is no rainbow shield
@@Cap_1941 of course, why else would it not be there. They actually created one shield that was never a shield before
@@impala6746 I know, I'm saying they would have but a lgbt flag shield and make sets but they won't put a Christian shield... Because knights were Christian
facts
I have the 6080 King's Castle, which I got as a Christmas present when I was a kid. Somehow never lost a piece, and it's one of my favorite memories from my childhood.
So yeah, I'm buying this, obviously. And I don't think it's overpriced at all. The per piece cost works out to 8.8 cents. That's not bad, especially for a flagship product. The UCS Millenium Falcon is over 10 cents a piece.
come on, not even a fair comparison: the MF has the Disney tax, this only has the wokeness tax
Im a big, big, Lego classic castle fan. This set is a must have. It just has 1 (big) flaw in it.. The heads of the knights.. al female.. i will replace them at the start with men heads. Just to stay classic. Its to bad Lego has to go woke with classic sets..
Bruh
5:22 White carrots? are you sure they're not radishes? Also the water wheel is driving a millstone so they can mill flour. that's a really cool little detail.
It is radish 😂
It does not cost to much… its a masterpiece
5:20 The white carrot pieces are not "never before seen," they are included in the Pickup Truck set (10290)
@@bz6046 okay.. the old castles werent 400 dollars and aimed at adult collectors, goofball. i think the play features are neat, i just dont agree with the way this was marketed and wish it would have been broken up into smaller more affordable PLAY SETS. then the inclusion of play features would have made alot more sense
$400, that's a hefty price for it. Makes me glad I started saving up for a while.
There are too many female minifigures in this set but apart from that it's really good.
Female minifigs are cool.
@@AntBandit No, they are not. There were practically no female knights so the fact that there are so many of them completely spoils the atmosphere.
Who cares? It's a toy.
the reminds me of the old "Mega Bloks Dragons", sets as they where like this, they had story in the instructions, sometimes lore and info in each page
Dang, this set looks seriously good. Kind of weird there's so many female minifig faces though. Was kind of hoping for the classic face
Yes, mine are going off and proper ones are going on.
@@IvanKala Joan of Arc wasn't a knight though.
@@maxxor-overworldhero6730 even better then ;)
I got one. Its awesome.
Anyone can get this and split the bill in 4 payments. No excuses.
Easy peasy!
🤣🤣🤣
Small PP energy
it's a toy? xD
Fr the part that bugs me out is the lipstick and lashes, these break the medieval look completly
*That's crazy, "female medieval warrior" come on LEGO!*
*All soldiers were male.Period.*
*When I get that set all soldier will be replaced by MALE soldiers, and a KING will be in charge.*
Well said, that feminist woke non-sense is a joke.
It's even more ridiculous than the price!
The 400 dollars is for the detail you wanna cheap castle go,get the 100 dollar creator one this however is 10x what that creator castle is. This is moc level detail that you see at shows.
Wht so many women faces
Oh, about 20 years ago I've got the best present for New Year in Saint Petersburg - the set with black dragon and the lord of bats. That was the only one set from castle theme I had
I recommend using a payment installment plan like PayPal pay in 4 for this. For me it was like $100 every 2 weeks.
with a bit of krackle. its the perfect DM's screen.
