- Taking a look at the Hotone Purple Wind: mini 5w solid state amplifier head.
Bought this out of curiosity more than anything and was actually quite impressed with the line out, size and price considered!
Decent mid focused Marshall like tones that are more than ok for doing like demos or recording ideas in the house.
One main criticism is that it pops loudly when turned on, regardless of what volume control is set to! Thus am reluctant to run it into my cab for fear of damaging the speaker. It’s unlikely it would, but I’d rather just not anyway. No big deal for me as I bought this purely to use straight into interface to record little ideas and riffs: and for that it’s sufficient.
Do you have one of these? Or maybe one of the other Hotone mini amps? What do you think? Does yours have the same flaw re speaker pop? Let me know in the comments.

Sounds good, but muffled. Definitely needs more high treble/presence.
Agree. Maybe a graphic equalizer in the fx loop might brighten it up some.
Agree, thought it sounded best with a bit of mid cut and the treble turned up (which is not how I would dial in any other amp usually).
Hey, i've got the Hotone Thunder Bass with the little Hotone Speaker. Sounds realy good and a good oppertunity when you want to play Bass after 10 "o"clock in the evening...Sound also great on a Roland 4X4" little cabinet.
Nice one man. Out if interest, do you get a pop sound when you turn the amp on?
@@Moonsguitars The pop is normal for these Class D mini amps. I have 5 Moorer Baby Bomb 30s and a JOYO Bluejay and they all pop when I turn them on. Just turn the volume know all the way down when shutting down.
@@RandyFricke See mine pops regardless of where I have the volume… i do know some amps pop though. Just that this is a pretty loud pop and was wondering whether it could damage the speaker in my cab over time. But I’m probably being over cautious!
@@Moonsguitars Yes My Thunder Bass gives also a pop when i turn it on

The “British Invasion” is that? What are your thoughts on that? Is there a “pop” sound from the speaker when you switch it on? 👀
@@Moonsguitars Yeah the Red 1 does a pop when i turn it on, to much gain on the red one, i think the purple would suit me better for turning the gtr volume down to clean up a bit then rolling it up to full as i do on my amps - thanks for responding and have an awesome weekend! Subbed 🎸
