Prof Wells, You have been a senior citizen in the field of Metacognitive Therapy and we have been following Your book for our reference. We look forward to more elaborate discussions about M C therapy. 🙏

Thank you Professor . This technique will hopefully allow more people to live lives without suffering tremendous inner distress ..often for decades . I know that from experience and the rumination involved is undoubtedly hellish and thoroughly miserable ..as is the whole experience ..but I'm sure you've heard that before . The condition eats away at very aspect of your life and desperate for relief I became an alcoholic as meds didn't work. Nearly killed me but 5 yrs dry now ...rarely experience joy or laugh and my only source of relief is no longer an option.

      A thought about a thought.

meta means "over" or "above". In MCT, metacognition refers to thoughts (meta-thoughts) about your thoughts.

Awareness, mindful observation and deductive understanding of one's own relevant thought processes, their dynamics, the validity or invalidity of their premises and self-replicating patterns. This approach is known as metacognition or ``going meta`` (going beyond one`s cognition).
