Should you stop playing scales and other exercises until this is under control? Or is that just reenforcing the bad habit.
No way!...you should use scales to practice getting this skill under control. Don't just blow through the scale, but make this technique the entire focus for playing that scale. That way, you get to practice this new skill while reinforcing your scale knowledge at the same time.
