    What foods are you using to feed your Discus? Let me know in the comments!

    That handful you showed is the best example I've found. I'm new to discus and nervous I'm not feeding enough. Is that 2 of those little handfuls 3-4 times a day? (8 small handfulls a day?)

    I have a bunch of 8cm and 10cm stendker discus (bought from Devotedly Discus) which seem to be growing although I see them every day so difficult to really tell! I can only manage to feed them twice a day - how much beef heart should I feed each fish in each feeding? They also get frozen bloodworms once or twice a week as a treat and they also seem to love the algae wafers I chuck in to feed my pleco!

      Hi, nothing wrong with your food choices👍
      Stendker actually publish a feeding guide here - diskuszucht-stendker.de/en/Diskus-Futter/Dosieranleitung
      Basically they say about 1 cube per feeding - another good rule of thumb is to give them a cube and if the finish it all off in 10 mins, next time give another half cube, and so on until they can't finish it all.

    I just got 4 of the most beautiful discus 2 weeks ago. They are doing fab.
    Eating Prima pellets, krill and brine shrimp.
    Much more interactive and friendly than my green terrors (in a different tank lol).

    I use Discus Hans Flake Food, Al's Freeze dried black worms, Frozen foods, as a treat every now and then. I place the frozen food cube in a net, and run warm water over it to remove preservatives, and just be left with the actual food, as recommended by my LFS.

    Good Mornin thank you for the nice vedio and the advises , the fact I am new to discus fish, and I live in Belgium where are the discus are very expensive yesterday I got 3 fishes in small one and I don't know but they seem very hidey kind of stress ! The shop keeper gave me some beef heart and other cube and this morning I offer them but they did not eat and they hide between the decoration so I removed the decoration but still no use.
    So please tell me what shall i do?
    1-How do you make your own beef heart and how shall I feed them?
    2- can you suggest me some other food rather than frozen food we do have Sera and terra brands please tell me some advise about it and if you have other good type of food that discus like which is available at Amazon.fr or Amazon.de please tell me the names.?
    Is it good to leave the aquarium only with gravel and no decoration? as I really like to just look to the fish and for sure I am going
    to bring 3 more soon
    4_ last question if I bring new fish from different breeder what shall I do before I put them in my tank?
    Thank you very much for your time .
    Nasir

    Sir hikari biogold is good for disxus fish and growth can I try it because my discus not eating tetra bites

  • @maxlabt
    @maxlabt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feed my discus with such food. The main food is chopped frozen mussel. Still frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, live tubifex and dry food Coppens Scarlet. Dry food is not bad, but still not completely replace live and frozen food.

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try to steer away from mussel these days - noticed a lot of people who feed mussel having problems

    • @maxlabt
      @maxlabt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not see any problems with the mussel. Thousands of amateurs of discus feed mince on the basis of mussels.

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no proof mussels are bad - some people have linked them to whirling disease (mussels bringing in the parasite causing it) so I've decided not to use them myself. I know lots of cases where mussels have been in the diet when they have ahd whirling - but also, plenty of people feed mussels without any problems at all.

    Has anybody had bloat issues feeding beef heart? Maybe the show-winners are the survivors, i.e. the ones whose digestive tract has evolved to a point where they could digest it. But is that all of the fish? If anybody has had any issues with bloat, and has had their fish on a beef-heart mix diet, I would love to hear from you.

    Glad to finally hear someone say its it's ok to let them eat for awhile. They love to graze for hours. Ever use earthworms. Great protein,no diseases and no foul water. Not to mention they love them.

      @preetham g yes but nothing that bothers me. They have no dark background and white sand. I guess it's just genes. The ones with PB in them are the orange with white patches. Don't remember what they call them. So many crosses anymore

    Beef heart is not good for Discus. It seems like every year I see a article about why beef heart is a horrible pick. But I kind find it obvious. Where in nature would a discus actually get a beef heart. I do agree that blood worms are bad as well

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Where in nature would they find pellets, flake, granules or any other commercially available food. It's used because of the nutritional value, not because it is found in nature.
      I know there is an argument against feeding beefheart - but personally know breeders who have bred and raised multiple show winners, as well as very long lived fish fed exclusively on beefheart.

    • @jessielikesplants3611
      @jessielikesplants3611 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aquarium Adventures so they wouldn't find a lot of the natural ingredients in Good flakes. Where in a river would they find a beef heart? I know I feed frozen worms and algae/ veggie flakes, in pretty they would find the stuff in that,before they find a beef heart. Maybe cows die in the river all the time and I'm wrong.

    • @jessielikesplants3611
      @jessielikesplants3611 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aquarium Adventures come on you have a couple K subs. You can have a better excuse the flakes aren't in nature to make your beef heart look better 😂😂

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What has how many subs I have got to do with anything? Most of the arguments against beef heart then go on to recommend a mussel mix. Not found in the natural environment. That something isn't found in the natural environment is a valid argument, just not a very good one. Whether something is nutritionally valuable is a better argument - with sensible points for and against feeding beefheart.

  • @anthonypautin

    I feed my discus, Diskusgold granules, freeze dried black worms with spinach in them, beef heart flakes from kensfish., and Forrest's Aquabites. simplydiscus.com is a very resourceful place and where I learned to pick and choose which food to go with.

  • @michaellou7101
    @michaellou7101 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If they are still picking at it after half an hour it’s not a popular good. Also, little discus should be in a barebottom tank for more intense feeding and clean water. Planted is only for full grown discus.

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some bold statements there - nothing wrong with your suggestions, but they are not laws. Yes, it's easier to raise smaller discus in a BB tank, but that doesn't mean planted tanks are only for adults. The bit about them picking at food being bad I just disagree with

    • @vidocha
      @vidocha 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe maintenance matters more than any hard rules. A bare bottom tank can be neglected just as much as a fully planted one. It breaks down to how much time each owner wants to invest in their tank.
