What kind of fish you have with your discus
Recently got into fish keeping with a second hand 90 gallon tank and fish from a friend. Your videos are my absolute favorite Kev.
Thank you! Glad to hear that...welcome to the hobby! 😊
I highly suggest you check out my playlist for beginners. It'll be very helpful for you 😁 - th-cam.com/play/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er.html
Feeding Hikari bio gold discus to my Discus and cichlids they love it. Will try this for variation.
I feed that also, both great options! 😁💪
this was a great video Kev. I'm loving it!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Great content as always Kev.
Thank you my bro! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊💪
Oh my gosh the black worms!! 😂😂 I feel you on this because my Axolotl has been on a worm diet since I got her and it’s strictly in the fridge to keep them!!! But she absolutely devours them!! She doesn’t chew..swallows whole! 😂😊
They love it! and its so good for them!
I have those flakes and my cichlids love them ! Great video bro !
Nice! Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed it! 😊💪
Had one boy over a year and stopped eating. I noticed he had white poo so I hit the tank with API general cure twice and he's back now as good as ever and his colour is almost back.
Most likely caught an internal parasite and the general cure took care of it 💪
Thank you for the recommendations! My discus haven’t been eating much after I moved them to a larger tank and added baby red spotted severum. Definitely going to try the live black worms and cichlid flake food. I love your videos and have learned a lot from them!
My pleasure! Glad you found the video helpful 😊💪
@@KaveManAquatics hey bro, what happened to your two Oscar fish? I remember you used to have two Oscars.
Hello Kevin. The discus tank looks great. I feed my discus pretty much every thing you do. I also feed them frozen baby brine shrimp by hikari. They absolutely love it.
Cool, thanks, I'll give that a try as well! 😊💪
Always great videos bro... So you're saying if they're not excited to eat... Just feed them once a day in the order you mentioned?
Correct. Letting them get extra hungry and then introducing a new food is a good tactic.
Hi Kevin, first than anything you have an amazing aquarium, beautiful fishes and interesting information. I wanted to ask you where you purchased your tank wallpaper. Thanks in advance!

@@KaveManAquatics Awesome!! Thank you Kevin! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve seen u do that with food before like u did with the flake food in this one, is there a reason u do that? Let me know thanks
I only do that with the flakes 😊
Cool to see them all eating! Thanks for the info
Any time! Glad you enjoyed it!
YFS fish food Order from ebay all my fish love it large variety cheaper price with top ingredients. So many great fish foods out there.
Love the food ideas I myself always gave my cichlids rosy red minnows and they loved them 😮 Your Thoughts????? Love the channel bro
Great video, thanks!
My pleasure! Glad you liked it!
Is there a Medicated food you recommend ? Appreciate the info you put out. Love how you get right to it .
Not really a medicated food. But I have a video on how to medicate the food you use. Check it out here - th-cam.com/video/bSpBUlN-8jI/w-d-xo.html
hi, first of all, i enjoy watching your channel. You are very knowledgeable on fish. I see that you have an arowana in with cichlids. Can I have the same thing with african cichlids? will they eat each other?
African Cichlids are too aggressive for an arowana. They can easily kill the arowana
Could you make a video on how to get rid of the black spots on Discus fish, and what is the reason for this issue
I'm still researching that myself. A few of my guys also have that "peppering". But will definitely make a video once I understand it better 😊💪
They lose it as they get older. Also light substrate and light background will have very limited peppering. The darker stuff in tank is. They pepper trying to blend in
@@upstateaquatics8644 great info! Thanks bro! 💪
@@KaveManAquatics the blackspots go away with esha exit Medications have a nice day
Bro, your tank is lit 🔥
Thanks 💯
What’s up man love the channel, I have a 55g tank with about 9 juvenile cichlids in it and I keep getting high levels of ammonia about 1.0 ppm. Any advice ? Tank is about 3 weeks old and fish seem to be doing fine
Did you cycle it first before you added any fish?
May i ask what are your top 3 foods + a treat for African cichlids, i want to give my African cichlids the best of the best, i already have 3 different types of foods for them but if there is others im happy to spend it to make them happier.
Great video
Thank you! 😁💪
I made my own beefheart mix for years very cost effective. Now That I stop breeding Discus I just feed them dry food mostly Sera brand.
Always been nervous about feeding live black worms and other types of live food because of parasites, might have to try some soon
I dont feed live fish for that same reason but I havent found any issues with the black worms
Sir .. does discuss like sinking pellet or floatint pellet the most ???
They will go for either one. They'll eat the surface and the substrate if the food is good quality
Cracking up at part MINE MINE MINE MINE 😂🤣
🤣🤣
@@KaveManAquatics 😂🤣
Do you dial back the filter flow and wavemakers in the discus tank or have them maxed out?
No wave makers in the discus tank. Since the tank is a tall 29" keeping the filters at max flow with outputs pointing up towards the surface does not create too much flow for them, so I keep it all the way open and theyre doing great 😊
Hi Kev,
What fish food is great for tropical fresh water fish that doesn't cloud the water and cause the fish to poop less?
I like Northfin pellets and Seachem Cichlid nutri diet. You can find both in my shop 😊 koji.to/kaveman_aquatics
Hi, Kevin, one week ago I set up a new tank and have a polar aurora 525 gal canister filter on it and a digital heater. The water temp stays at 80 and the heater is set for 72 and the water will not cool down, do you think the filter could be heating the water because it feels warm when I touch the top of the filter have you had this happen? Thanks, GREAT video's
Could be your lights or even the ambient temperature in the room. OR a faulty heater....try lowering the setting on the heater even more and test if that drops the tanks temp.
Hi Kave, want to check one thing. Recently got flowerhorn fish, should I have webmaker in my flowerhorn tank as I have done for my African Chiclid tank. Pls advice. Thanks
I've never kept a flowerhorn so really couldnt tell you if they would like a heavy flow or not. They are a very strong swimmer so I would give it a try.
@@KaveManAquatics Thanks Kave. I have fixed a small one and keeping it on round the clock except the feeding time.
Hi friend.
I'm going to give you some advice, I've been raising Discus for 40 years, and unfortunately, they can't have other companions, or they won't grow and get sick, that amount of discus you have, they eat about 10 times the food you have given in a day the video, and the other fish won't let them, the arowana if you could have it, but giving it 2 or 3 frozen fish, before feeding the Discus
Thank you for your advice and for sharing your experience. I tend to like to try my own things and break the norms of the past. So far my Discus are doing great with the mix of fish I have in the tank. They are all eating very well and growing. The arowana also pays them no mind.
Try to keep watching as I continue to update on this tank...maybe we'll both learn something new 😊
I need help! At my wits end now set up my new aquarium I did research before this but was only planning on keeping a betta and some other non colourful fish anyway ended up with a tank full of snails 🐌 😒 I did a complete reset literally spent a whole day making everything perfect again buying new substrate, plants, rocks, sponges....sterilised everything....snails again 😞😖 im down in the dumps about this so any advice appreciated tia x
Snails might be introduced from your plants. You have to quarantine your plants and possibly use something to kill the snails before adding to tank. Im not big on plants so dont have experience with the specifics...but try searching "quarantine for aquarium plants". that should help.
One of my fish is not eating for almost 3 weeks now and he is so weak. What treatment should give him?
Its possibly internal parasites. Watch this - th-cam.com/video/bSpBUlN-8jI/w-d-xo.html
Hey Kev where do you recommend getting the blackworms from?
Your local fish store should have some. If not, tell them to get some! 😁
@@KaveManAquatics man thanks for always getting back. Been following you since the beginning. Mad respect🔥 All we have are Petco and Persmart. Do you know if they carry them?
my fish store expert tells me to only feed 2-3 times a week to keep nitrates lower.
What say you.
Your fish will do fine with that schedule. If they're young fish that grow to a big size, 1-3 feedings a day would be better. Nitrates will always continuously rise, making and keeping a schedule for maintenance is whats best. I highly suggest you check out my playlist for beginners. It'll be very helpful for you 😁 - th-cam.com/play/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er.html

I have purchased jack dimpsey fish 5 days back . He is active but not eating food please help me
Check your water Parameters. Make sure he isnt getting bullied. Look for signs of internal parasites. Sometimes, they just need more time to settle in.

When are you planning your large tank project
It's already in work 😊 Tank is being built.

What fish store is that. I’m from Long Island and always looking for new fish stores. Thanks
Don’t remember showing a fish store in this video…I’ll have to rewatch it later…
@@KaveManAquatics it’s at the 2:09 min mark. Just like I said always curious to shop at new, reliable, specialty fish stores on Long Island.

@@KaveManAquatics thanks so much for replying. maybe one day at one of these places on Long Island we could meet up. Would love to meet you and talk.
How many gallons is that tank
What’s the orange fish called? I want them in my discus tank now lol
Severums I think
What lighting do you use?
Current USA. You can find it in my shop - koji.to/kaveman_aquatics
Do you turn off your filters during feeding?
I used to, but nope, not any more. Only when I feed the Africans Freeze dried Krill.
Not related to food but I have two frontosa fish mixed with my ciclits, one of the frintosas has Popeye, how can I fix it?
You can use API Melafix and Pumafix, it will reduce
But why has it happened, it happens because of bad water quality
Kev why do u dip ur finger in the water when u feed ur fish? Just drop it in bro
Flakes will stay floating at the surface. I dip my hands in so it drops into the water column. it spreads more that way so everyone can get some 😊
This is off topic but how many gallons is that tank ?
150 Gallons
@@KaveManAquatics god damn 🤣 alright man that’s a huge tank… looks badass though
Thank you bro! You should see my 210 right next to it 😁😁
@@KaveManAquatics do a video on it lmao I wish I had a tank like that 🤣
nice video sirrrrrrrrrrrr
Thank you bro! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
I don’t think I would want black worms in my refrigerator either. Lol. But you could get yourself one of those small refrigerators to keep in your new fish room. 🙂
She's been suggesting exactly that ever since! 🤣🤣
Well there you go. Gotta listen to the boss. 😂
Mine love grindal worms
My arawana won't eat off the floor only off the top of the water 🙈
Thats normal, thats why he gets the frozen beef heart, it floats. Flaco also gets freeze dried krill and Northfin arowana pellets...they all float at the top 😊
Every fish loves blackworms!
It's a delicacy! lol
@@KaveManAquatics totally! I have a culture of them. They seem to do fine at cooler temp (65-70) if you don’t want to refrigerate. I have no chiller or heater on their tank and they seem to be doing fine for a month now:)
@@corydorablecaliaquariums Cool, thanks for the tip! 😁💪
Is there anything like too much beneficial bacteria in the aquarium I wonder.
Nope, never! Unless you have too much autotrophic bacteria which are the bacterial bloom cloudy-causing bacteria. But after a tank has cycled you shouldn't have those. 😊
@@KaveManAquatics Thank you sir, it's been bugging me for a while, and you're one of the inspiration that i started yt channel about fish keeping so share my beginners experience to others so they can learn 😊🙏🏾
Not sure why but none of my fish like frozen beef heart.
Thats weird...never heard of that one. Maybe try thawing it out??
@@KaveManAquatics I did they just let it sit at the bottom. Some of the rams and stuff pick at it but my discus and angels won't touch it. They go crazy for the frozen blood worms so it's nothing to do with it being frozen.
