The Sound Quality section of your review is what your dedicated followers really want to watch, we trust your experience as a lot of us may not have the ability to review a product ourselves. I was pleasantly surprised by your comments here regarding the 'musicality' of the A10 but presume the 'lack of resolution' is only a factor because of its price bracket. Thanks again, Hans 🙏
Thank you for the great review and I have to say that I don't believe a lot of TH-camrs but all your viedeos make me build part of my system 🎉❤ and you was always right 👍 Thank you for your support
Thank you, this is a very relevant and helpful review, especially the sound impressions (and the internals walkaround: no easy way to swap opamps). Looks like a product worthy of the price. Let's see how the DAC section compares with other ES9038SPro designs.
Nice review of an interesting device Hans. Saw some Grimm Audio at a hifi show in Edinburgh last saturday. Heard some very small Boenicke speakers with room filling sound!. I now have Roon installed on an Intel Nuc and i am slowly making my way thru its amazing functions. Keep well Hans. 21:3421:3421:3421:34
The FIR filter is actually a very powerful feature, and it can also be used for time domain correction. However, it requires more advanced software, such as standalone tools like Audiolense. After creating the FIR filter, it can be imported into the A10’s convolution engine. That said, the DSP expertise required for this is quite high, so I am merely pointing it out. It’s not that FIR is limited to correcting amplitude; it just needs more powerful tools to design the FIR filter properly.
Thank you Hans for your usual comprehensive review. I'm happy to see that room correction is included. Now an option on the upcoming Bluesound Node Icon and already included on the WiiM Ultra is hopefully a sign that the industry is beginning to 'get with the 'program'. The dedicated USB out allowing the use of a better external DAC is welcome but begs the question, of whether the room correction is still available through the USB out. Disappointed that the A10 apparently does not include a high/low pass feature, which is offered with the WiiM Ultra. Especially as the A10 has dual subouts. But overall, a big step in the right direction.
Thank you for this video. Question: how good is the preamp specifically? In your test, did you prefer driving your amp as an integrated or as a power amp?
I am more interested in sound than features and tech. I have an A8, and it sounds like the A10 has a better Pre, and better DAC. I won't upgrade to the A10. I will save money and wait for an all in one Streamer, Pre, and DAC from Holo Audio based on the Cyan. I have faith it will come someday soon.
Hello Hans. Quick question. I want to use the clocks in my Pontus 15th instead of the ones in my streamer. Which digital output do I use from my streamer to the Pontus to achieve this? My streamer has USB, Optical, Coax digital outputs. Thank you for another excellent review. You are the Master!
Platinum age of audio. Audio is better than ever - greater proportion of excellent products, more features, better sound, more accessible, more convenient form factors, more convenient, more affordable/higher value, and on, and on, and on.
Wow Hans, that is a very positive review I can see why it took so long. Can it play Apple music as an end unit or only from an Apple device? It’s definitely an option if I the active modules into my PMC’s, not a fan of the “fancy” volume knob unfortunately.
Does it have an home theater bypass on the analog in? It's frustrating to see all these "pre-amp" devices that cannot be used as pass thru devices when connected to a receiver in a home theater/streamer mixed setup.
Peter Gabriel; this confirms my faith in your musical acumen. I am curious if the A10 has home theater bypass. I pretty sure the A8 has it, so I'm guessing this must since it should be trivial to implement.
Thank you for this review. I wonder how the A10 compares with the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II, but maybe you don’t have it around anymore. I am on the market to buy a new streamer+DAC since Mytek failed to honor their contract of exchange between the original BB and the BB II.
NAD is way more expensive and much worse built (capacitors, soldering). NAD, Audiolab, Cambridge are all devices built to fail after the warranty expires. Just look up the pictures of the insides.
Hello Hans.. Just a question : this DMP A10 is all in one system (streamer, dac, pre amp) without implementation of Master Clock (dedicated Master clock unit) like other high end Digital Music players. How do you compare with other high end Digital Streamers (that implementing Master clock unit separate) ??
Thanks for the Review. Can you imagine that the A10 would be better than the integrated electronics of a Dynaudio Focus 50? You had already tested the Dynaudio.
Thanks for the review. I kinda would like to know what i am missing out... but.... I just sold my dmp8, bought a kiwistreamer and i am never going back to chi-fi again!
Sounds like another winner! But hard to imagine what it sounds like when you said it "it involves you in the music". My experience with being invovled with the music has always been the music itself, not because of the gear. A Chet Baker trumpet solo mono recording coming from an AM radio or a stereo remix from a two-channel would get me invovled with the music just as well.
Thank you Hans great review. Would have been useful to include a HDMI input so we could connect an Apple TV directly to the unit and also they could of included a HDMI output socket to work with legacy AV surround processors. I like the inclusion of the SFP port this is nice touch and the DSP functions and stereo sub outputs are on point. The price is also very competative
Not cheap, possibly selling at a reasonable price. Those who want a streamer at a much cheaper price and sounds great look no further than WiiM Pro or Pro Plus if you don't have an above than average DAC.
@@Pete.across.the.streetthat is your opinion The A10 seems like good value to me I have no use for it but if I were looking to spend around $3K on a streamer I would consider this one for sure
@@middleearthltd i think the a8 is a better value at almost half the price. I don't think it's worth the upgrade to the A10 unless the sound quality is substantially better. I'm am going to mod my A8 for less than the price difference and hopefully get better sound. Doesn't seem like a bad device at all.
@@Pete.across.the.street Agree. I haven’t seen reviewers really detail the sound quality benefits over the A8. The A10 has a DAC that some think is inferior to the one in the A8.
Glad to see you are in good health. As always your professionalism and intelligence are a delight.

Another great video!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
My pleasure!
I dont think any reviewer could explain a components functions, and review better than what i have just watched , enjoy the music
Thanks

Id does have high pass and low pass as I have shown in the video. The digital outputs all can be sent through the DSP functions, including USB.
thanks (again) for the excellent review!

Gracias señor Hans!!!!
De nada
Very nice. This seems like a cheaper, but capable alternative to the much more expensive Nad M66
I can't say. I've not reviewed the M66 yet.
Great review as always -- cheers

Nice video. May I ask if the room correction also work for sub woofer integration?
I haven't tried but I don't think so.
Very comprehensive, Thank you!can you save music from the internal streamer to added internal SSDs?
Unfortunately not

Idon't thin you can use the Pontus clock unless your streamer does USB Audio Class 2.

It does Apple formats and, if you need it, also Airplay 2
Have you had a chance to review the latest Nad M66 streaming preamp? If so how do they compare?
No, not yet
Does it have an home theater bypass on the analog in?
It's frustrating to see all these "pre-amp" devices that cannot be used as pass thru devices when connected to a receiver in a home theater/streamer mixed setup.

I understand there is quite the price difference to the A10 but a review of the Bluesound Node Icon would be interesting 🧐
Noted
Isn't that filters then a smps in the upper right? Sounds like even if it's not a full smps, it will still create switching noise no?
It is a SMPS but it's only used for standby and voltage selection so it doesn't get into the audio circuits.

The BB II is one step ahead and has a Roon server integrated.
The A10 is a clear competitor to the NAD M66. Any thoughts on the comparison? Thanks so much and keep up the good work.
I have not reviewed the M66 so I can't say.

Itt has two OCXO's as master clock.
Would love to get pre-amp impressions from you on this unit.
I have no analog sources.
I’m deciding between this or Marantz AV10.
👍🏼
You alluded to it but was there a noticeable difference between using it as a streamer vs using it as a streamer&preamp?
No
im never going to buy this but your explanations were brilliant ,it actually is a great product but unfortunately my pocket only goes to wimm

Thanks for the Review.
Can you imagine that the A10 would be better than the integrated electronics of a Dynaudio Focus 50?
You had already tested the Dynaudio.
That was a long time ago….
But does it have AirPlay 2? Still sour that my DMP-A6 ME only has Airplay 1
Airplay 2 is specified.
Thanks for the review.

18:20 I don't think you used an actual iPad 2... the iPad 2 came out in 2011 and doesn't even support basic apps anymore.
iPad Pro 2
I can only find it for 3.780,00 €
I saw the Dutch price at MagnaHifi.com
It may be fortunate that I don't play in the upper-end hifi playground, it would be so hard to pick from the awesome choices above 3K.
$3000 is pretty entry level. Above the budget stuff though.
Enjoy the music.
