Nowadays buying solid states is a waste of money as they are worst than modelers thorough P.A They don't give any personalty to your sound. there are exceptions of course, but not Orange Crush ones.

5 years now with my ORANGE CRUSH 120/Crush 35rt. Countless gigs and rehursals and recording. Nothing had failed. Eveything is going strong and working flawless... I want to try a SUPER CRUSH 100... But since everything has worked so good I may not need to upgrade. I'm sure it's amazing though!!!!
I have 2 CR120s and added the Super Crush. You are right to hesitate. It's a good amp, but saying that these amps have a subtle difference would be bold. They're too similar to justify buying a new one because the super crush isn't an upgrade. I have to turn the gain and volume up higher. After a few minutes of twiddling knobs on the super crush, I realized I was just trying to recreate the sound I get from the CR120. There is definitely not an "ah ha! It IS more valve-like!" moment. I'll hang on to it, but currently having a little bit of buyers remorse. I'm going to keep using my CR120 for both my musical projects and hang on to the super crush as a backup. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... But I get that Orange wanted something marketable to keep amps selling. Cheers!
@@milesskoog7675 Really!? There were two things I didn’t like about my CR120H, how dark/muddy it sounded with high gain and how thin the lead tone was. It would appear Orange has fixed these two issues, along with adding more clean headroom.

Your just so cool dude and direct and to the point..and playing is Exellent..dont have to have long Hair to be a guitar Luthier..great video..my Super Crush i ordered should be here tomorrow, this video makes me more excited about getting it.
It’s worth mentioning that the 100 watts is not a measurement of potential volume but a measurement of headroom and the two don’t scale linearly. A low watt amp doesn’t mean it’s quieter but just that it distorts earlier in its gain staging. A high headroom amp like this just means that it can be completely clean at louder volumes than a lower watt amp.
And with the master volume you can turn it down and get mega sounds from cranking the clean and dirty channels. I've been saving up for one of these for quite a while. This is possibly the most versatile amp in existence without being some kinda digital thing like a Line 6 or Helix.
Not the best solution because you would need more equipment, but you can use the effects loop 'send' to get no cab-sim out. You wont be able to use the digital reverb though. From there you can use some sort of DI box to whatever.
Now the question is, have transistor amps always been good and we’ve just grown up from the mentality that tone is in the glowing tube or have they become better over time?

Wish they would make a mini of these a little bigger than the pedal baby, as that's the power section. I suppose tying in a tube pre would cannibalize their full tube amps somewhat, but that'd be neat.
I was very proud of myself for catching the Satch chord progression about 3 seconds before you mentioned it was a song by a friend of yours with no hair... 🙂
I just got one of these. I plugged a Pod Go into it 4CM style. Drove the Orange preamp with one of the overdrives in the Pod and holy !@#$%! My main rig is distortion-wise a Fortin 33 into a Marshall DSL100HR. I'll have to get a separate noise gate as the one built into the Pod didn't cut it with all that screeching crunch. All I can say is I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use the Pod & Orange for a backup during a live gig if the Marshall or my pedal board pooped out on me
Is there danger to running this into a 2x12 cab with one G12h30 (30w) and one V30 (60w)? I realize the cab rating is about 60w at that point, but I'm wondering if 100w solid state is actually different in terms of volume to a 100w tube....and if my speakers should be fine with this amp at gigging levels.
Awesome demo! Can the Super Crush 100 work with the Captor X to load IR's instead of the built-in DI? Speaker out 8 ohm on the Crush into the Captor X?
For many years i used a polytone brute with a pretty basic pedal board but i did have an old 15" utah alnico speaker that gave a much smoother sound than the stock speaker
19:45 itself makes the video worthy hahaha ! Daaaaaamn DI out. Orange should have associated with Two Notes & put a CabM+ into the amp with the Two Notes Orange pack ! THAT would have KICKED MAJOR ASS. (And raised the price a bit, ok, but...)
Or just made the DI filter bypassable. As-is, it's useless to run it into something like a CAB M. I guess you can go from the Effects Send out, it's a solid state amp so it won't hurt anything. Still, you can't use it alongside a speaker then. Just seems like having the XLR out without an analog cab sim would have been easy. Or a simple switch to bypass the analog filter.
It's really annoying when big companies go to the effort of including DI outs without a simple switch to turn off cab emulation, which usually sucks, and is often found on lesser amps from smaller companies. Such a silly yet simple oversight. Still a great amp though.

Would be cool if that DI out was actually a headphone out instead. Just saying .. but I don't know anything about the design technicalities there .. but that's a major choosing factor for me between this and the Quilter TB202
Would this be too much amp for the house? Im wanting a setuo i can jam at home AND gig with. Im not worried about neighbors...but i am worried about the wife enjoying it and not too loud for her.
yes, but in a major chord… so it doesn’t sound like a minor 3rd… but like a sharp 9… the major third is the stronger sound and the #9 just adds flavor instead of sounding minor
The DI Out is such a deal breaker for me. I have a Katana that I use as a platform and honestly the only thing keeping me from trading it in for a Super Crush is the terrible DI for recording.
@@EytschPi42 thank you the Carey is on the way and I think I may go for the Super Crush. Also got a PRS Core Custom 24 and other guitars which I think it could work really well with. Like the idea of that orange tone but light weight and more affordable. Thanks for your video.
Totally agree, the build-in analog cab sim should be defeatable. Would far prefer an on/off over a closed/open back switch. Can't fault Orange for having a bad analog cab sim built in... every amp that has them are crap. The H&K ampman's built-in is better because of the variety of cabs 8 and the ability to turn off, but still isn't something I'd use in a mix.
So wait, the xlr out can just be ran into anything?? Damn that's gonna make recording at night a hell of a lot easier lol. I dont even care that it sounds bad lmfao.
Also, I completely agree with you about liking the lack of bass. I LOVE the Orange sound but I've always thought it's just a little too thick/fuzzy, unless you're talking about a Rockerverb but that's no where near my budget lol, the SC100 is the absolute best Orange I've heard outside of the Rockerverb and is why I pulled the trigger on the combo.
Thats actually my ONLY thing i SLIGHTLY dislike about this amp, I'm a big fan of massive blown out molasses thick type tones. It can sorta be fixed by adding an EQ pedal with the lows boosted like crazy but not a whole lot.
I don't think the amp has a cab emulation built in, it much more sounds like the raw amp signal through the DI out. You do have to use an external IR loader with that. Being able to get the raw amp signal makes it quite versatile as you can use it with your own IRs, but they should have included at least one Orange Cab IR and a little switch at the back to turn that on and off.
Thats the point. As a guitarist and a singer what You prefer doing? Of course its the guitar „magical mistic” bullshit. But 99% of people listen to vocals and lyrics, but its hard to sing well, so we pretend thats not the case xD
You know, though, Dual Terrors now cost 900 new? Whereas this is 500? So...basically this blows all Orange tube out of the water unless you're a masochistic rich hobbyist lol
i had a dark terror before i got the CR60 combo. the tone and feel was very consistent between the two of them. it breaks up just like i expected my valve orange to. i can only imagine the current version is even closer.
I only care about the high gain sound. I guess I'll have to try one out because TH-cam videos simply don't do justice. And this video I feel like it sounds very muffled but nobody's talking about it
"Transistor guitar amps have a bad reputation" ... Do they? Cheaper/practice amps rarely sound as good as valve amps, but a couple of price points up, there have been high quality, great-sounding tranny amps for decades. I used a British made Sessionette amp for many years. Eric Clapton used one in the 1980s, so I'd say I was in good company. I believe EVH recorded his solo to Michael Jackson's "Beat It" on a tranny amp. Peavey, Roland, etc. etc... Lots of great choice going back many, many years. So, I'd say that the Super Crush 100, judging by the reviews I've seen, joins the pantheon of great solid state amps.
2 downfalls with that amp the dirt channel is to fuzzy for my liking and the price in canada is $900 id sooner spend the extra $100 and get the black spirit
Henning I would love to see a demo of yours bout the strymon nightsky. This is a very unique verb and it reminds me off a fafisa a lot. I thing it would be interesting to see how you do with it and wether you would come up with creative stuff. I know you do very well with experimental stuff, that banger intro of the sy 1000 is still something i come back over and over and also your demo on the c4 was very cool. Btw i remember your vide about the big strymons in the stereo session. Those textures in the background were amazing. The nightsky expands a lot on character texture verbs and imo is such a creative tool, often overlooked cause it need time to dig in. Look at what Perry Frank does with it: th-cam.com/video/H6fdQ-KNn2s/w-d-xo.html Final jam (minute 13) plus sound 13 made me buy that pedal and it drives me so often to record some lovely textures.

@Van020280 you're incorrect. I'll wait here while you do your research though. Go ahead, I'll he right here.
Is this any good for bedroom volumes?
"Major 7th #9, you write a song with that, I give you $5"

When Im playing through a SS amp, and Im soaring, Im not thinking “wow this isnt a tube amp. Thats a good thing.
Oh Wow! The older Orange Amps always had a muddy sound, but this sounds pretty damn awesome and the price is right!!! I'll be checking one out soon... Peace ✌PS Where's this amp made??
Engineered in UK, Made in China.
Yeah this one is a tad brighter.
South Korea
PAUL WAH & I was before the rapper because my favorite guitar pedal is a WAH WAH I wish more guys would be more like you & Tom quale and play the spectrum I have a
Super crush combo & it is definitely different than the head not by much but it is I believe the 150 Watt celestian speaker & for the life of me the more u turn it up the better it sounds I got it because my last tube amp was that the last & I'm very happy I'm a little iffy on the reverb but I can deal with it thanks for your time and help I went through a lot of amps orange of course and it was the super crush or the rockerverb and I was like couldn't believe it is solid state and I'm and will be
VOICE OF THE WORLD
Would be cool if that DI out was actually a headphone out instead. Just saying .. but I don't know anything about the design technicalities there .. but that's a major choosing factor for me between this and the Quilter TB202
Weg vom Thema aber Felix is schon ein geiler Drummer . Hatte ihn schon mit Maschine mal gesehen .
BTW : interessantes Video !
Very good review
great song, love the vibe.
Would this be too much amp for the house? Im wanting a setuo i can jam at home AND gig with. Im not worried about neighbors...but i am worried about the wife enjoying it and not too loud for her.
You can always turn it down and retain the tone... unlike tube amps..
I have no real use case for the Orange sound, but my Crush Mini (50$) sounds pretty good on a cab. 3W tho, so not exactly stage ready
yo what is that outro song
I own one and it kicks ass
Isn't a #9 the same as a minor 3rd?
yes, but in a major chord… so it doesn’t sound like a minor 3rd… but like a sharp 9… the major third is the stronger sound and the #9 just adds flavor instead of sounding minor
The DI Out is such a deal breaker for me. I have a Katana that I use as a platform and honestly the only thing keeping me from trading it in for a Super Crush is the terrible DI for recording.
Have you tried the PJD Carey through the Orange Super Crush, thinking of getting both and would love to know your thoughts?
that could work nicely
@@EytschPi42 thank you the Carey is on the way and I think I may go for the Super Crush. Also got a PRS Core Custom 24 and other guitars which I think it could work really well with. Like the idea of that orange tone but light weight and more affordable. Thanks for your video.
Does it go Tube amp loud?
What does that mean?
Since it's a transistor amp, does it means that it's useable at bedroom level without an attenuator?
I don't think it will sound great quietly
Actually it sounds great at low volume.👍
Totally agree, the build-in analog cab sim should be defeatable. Would far prefer an on/off over a closed/open back switch. Can't fault Orange for having a bad analog cab sim built in... every amp that has them are crap. The H&K ampman's built-in is better because of the variety of cabs 8 and the ability to turn off, but still isn't something I'd use in a mix.
You should have used the same guitar for the DI part.
So wait, the xlr out can just be ran into anything?? Damn that's gonna make recording at night a hell of a lot easier lol. I dont even care that it sounds bad lmfao.
Your pants look comfy. What kind?
Thanks for the review, Henning. Any chances to see Hartmann take one of these through it's paces one day? 😉
Purple sparkle, and a liftable orange.
A very good combo.
this thing sound killer every review i saw it rules
I don't think the amp has a cab emulation built in, it much more sounds like the raw amp signal through the DI out. You do have to use an external IR loader with that. Being able to get the raw amp signal makes it quite versatile as you can use it with your own IRs, but they should have included at least one Orange Cab IR and a little switch at the back to turn that on and off.
it CLEARLY says "Open Back" and "Closed Back" on the back panel... the simulation is just so bad that it sounds as if there isn't any.
@@EytschPi42 Holy Moly, that's pretty bad.
Did you see "open/closed” on the back?
These are like the old emulated outputs of the 80's and 90's
think it really doesn’t matter what guitar amp you play through for that opening song. the killer vocals still take it for me
Thats the point.
As a guitarist and a singer what You prefer doing? Of course its the guitar „magical mistic” bullshit.
But 99% of people listen to vocals and lyrics, but its hard to sing well, so we pretend thats not the case xD
@@tomaszmikinka8681 Well said! Great guitar players with expensive gear are a dime a dozen, but great singers are one in a million. 👌🏼
I'd like to see it up against a similar priced orange valve like a dual terror
You know, though, Dual Terrors now cost 900 new? Whereas this is 500? So...basically this blows all Orange tube out of the water unless you're a masochistic rich hobbyist lol
@@squashandfries a dual terror cost 530 UK,super crush 430
@@pads-zr9ln lucky bastards lol
@@squashandfries brits get cheaper marshals and orange, Americans get cheaper fenders and messa boogie, europeans get eurovision
i had a dark terror before i got the CR60 combo. the tone and feel was very consistent between the two of them. it breaks up just like i expected my valve orange to. i can only imagine the current version is even closer.
Lol she recorded her vocals on a tree stump in the middle of the woods?
I've gone back and forth. If you have good cab and trusty pre amp sound. Honestly I like a cheap pedal sometimes.
Very informative video. Is the DI OUT line level or Mic level ? Thanks
Kein Fussschalter zwischen Clean und Drive, geht gar nicht. Was soll das?
I don't like how midrange only it is. But I think that's all Orange amps
Who is the Orange Head 👌🙏
Want!
He had me at "switch-a-rooni"
Lets hear what the transorange delivers. Btw. still got a Fender from the 80th with those transistors in it. And its good.
“you can single coil the shit out of them” i feel that
I agree this amps is a real bad ass Kudos to Orange they nails it
Felix on drums !!!!
2 downfalls with that amp the dirt channel is to fuzzy for my liking and the price in canada is $900 id sooner spend the extra $100 and get the black spirit
That’s a lot orange amps even the tubes are fuzzy tones anyway
That's just the way orange sounds. You can tighten up the sound with some overdrive pedals and EQ
Look at what Perry Frank does with it: th-cam.com/video/H6fdQ-KNn2s/w-d-xo.html
Final jam (minute 13) plus sound 13 made me buy that pedal and it drives me so often to record some lovely textures.
