I see plenty of people commenting that their Descale light did not shut off. I had the same problem and checked the Keurig site and discovered that their instructions are a little misleading. Keurig merely says to hold down the 8oz and 10oz buttons simultaneously for three seconds. That didn't work for me but with a little trial and error I figured it out. Here's what Keurig neglected to say; Plug in your Keurig coffee maker but do not turn the coffee maker on. With the coffee maker and all of the lights off, hold down the 8oz and 10oz buttons for 3 seconds. When you finish, turn on the coffee maker and the Descale light should not come on.
Thanks for your tip. It works. I tried calling the support line and he was useless! Kept on asking me lots of unnecessary questions. In the end, I gave up and saw your post!!! Whew!
It is so easy to do, a 10 year old could do it. The instructions a easy to follow except my Keurig Supreme plus the descaling light does not stop displaying the more water you run through it. You eventually have to unplug it and it is cleared. After the cleaning water runs through it a lot better. Worth the effort.
The explanation was very clear and concised.. I am confident that thanks to the explanation, I will be able to clean my coffee maker without any problems. Thank you for this post.
This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.
Great instructions, I'd like to add a WORD OF CAUTION though. Keep a bit of extra water on hand to add to the revisor should it run low before it finishes the processes. Sometimes the low water sensor does not kick in during descaling and rinse process and will allow the water tank to run dry. If this happens it will trip the internal thermal switch and you're going to have to get a new coffee maker as there's no way to reset that switch without tearing the machine down. My last Keurig bit the dust that way - - I kept an eye on my new one and saved it by having an extra cup of water handy to pour in the tank to keep it from running dry.
On my 4th Keurig Supreme in one year and after following the easy descaling instructions the descale light still doesn't turn off. Descale light finally went off after unplugging machine and holding the 8oz and 10oz together for 5 secs and then plugging the machine back and turning the coffee maker on. Hallelujah it works. Too bad Keurig doesn't explain this.
If the descale light hasn't reset after the cleaning process, try pressing both the 8oz and 10oz buttons at the same time for a full 5 seconds. This should turn the light off.

Cleaning your Keurig coffee maker once a quarter is important to good-tasting coffee. Keurig Descaling Solution is designed to remove mineral build-up and is fast-acting and odorless. An alternative is white vinegar (don't use other types) which helps remove mineral build-up as well. White vinegar isn't as effective or as odorless as the official cleaning solution, but will likely be cheaper, so you may need to use it more often than once every 3 months. For more information on Keurig Descaling Solution, visit the product page at bby.me/quuld0.
I unplugged the coffee maker, followed the video and read the comments below. However, when I, with the machine plugged in but not turned on, I press the 8 and 12 button, as instructed, and the brew light does not come on. I have been working on this for over an hour with no luck. What am I doing wrong?
This worked for me: unplug, press and hold 8oz and 12oz buttons AND and the same time, plug in power, this will make descsle a SOLiD light. Press K button in the middle.
If descaling your Keurig didn't turn the light off, you may have to put your machine in Descale Mode before it recognizes that you've cleaned it. The signal comes on when your coffee maker detects something clogs the normal water flow, so keep your entrance and exit needles unclogged by cleaning them with a paper clip. It is definitely a royal pain. But otherwise I'm replacing the coffee pot (the smallest) one at least once a year. I was able to purchase another k. pot and have it in case the current one just stops. And later purchased a small drip coffee pot that NEVER broke. Before purchasing Keurig machines I thought they could do no wrong.
My exact brewer doesn't turns ON or OFF for the descalation process. It's like brewing regular coffee and not doing the descalation process when following instructions as directed. 😢😮😮
If you have a different Keurig machine, you can find additional cleaning and care bby.me/685jdp on Keurig's support page for the various models of Keurig coffee makers.
Try pressing the 8 oz and 5 oz buttons at the same time for 5 seconds to see if that turns the light off. For additional support, connect directly to the chat support team at support.keurig.com/
The descaling light coming on means the machine needs to be descaled. If it's off, then your machine does not need to go through that cleaning process.
The rinse pods contain cleaners designed to be used weekly to clean the reservoir where the water enters the pod. This helps reduce flavor carryover between types of pods (such as different coffees) that could impact the taste. The pods can be purchased separately or as part of the full 3-month cleaning kit available at bby.me/sl02lz.
Or just rinse it with plain water from the water reservoir! It's literally just RINSING!! (And it's all coffee anyway; how contaminated can your coffee be if it's got a few drips of a different flavor? Tho I must say, I would hate anything Maple flavor to get in the next cup😖
Where is the add water sign? Is not coming up. Even though the reservoir is empty. I kept descaling it three times the reservoir and the descale sign doesn't go away
Something this video did not mention, after the rinse step, start the descale process with the diluted solution in the water reservoir, but shut off the keurig after a small amt of solution goes into the cup. Leave it off for half an hour, or an hour if yours is really bad; the descaling stuff will soak all the innards and then be removed more thoroughly when you start it up again. Keurig site said DO NOT leave it to soak overnight.😬
To start the descale process, make sure the brewer is plugged in and powered off. Press and hold the 8oz and 12oz buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. When you see a flashing light, press the brew button and this should start the descaling.
Try this: Star with the brewer plugged in and powered off, then press and hold the 8oz and 12oz buttons together for 3 seconds. Then, when you see flashing, press the brew button to start the descaling process.
This descale thing takes forever, by forever I mean I do exactly what it says but 3 hours later I’m still waiting for the descale light to turn off. So aggravating

How can I turn off the flashing light without descale?
I think you can just unplug it
Can vinegar be used in place of Koenig cleaner

Do not power it on, press while the machine is off. I read someone comment this and it worked for me!!
So plug in, then hit the two buttons 3 seconds and THEN power on.
I'll try that.
I don’t have all those items except the keurig rinse pod and coffee machine
I cannot get the scale light to go off on my K cup supreme

It’s not worth owning a Keurig if you have to go through all of that!

I can’t get the descaling light to come on
The descaling light coming on means the machine needs to be descaled. If it's off, then your machine does not need to go through that cleaning process.
Do all keurig makers need water filter?
This will depend on your water. The water filter helps keep the machine clean from buildup and aids with overall taste.
What is in a rinse pod?
The rinse pods contain cleaners designed to be used weekly to clean the reservoir where the water enters the pod. I've used that stuff twice now and it doesn't work at all, plus it's awfully expensive.
Once but never again! The descale light remained lit after spending $15 on the solution! Frankly, I’m exhausted from just watching and listening!
