    The cup that you pop out at 3:20 and said the bottom won't come off, the bottom comes off easily if you unscrew it. Turn it to the left and it will come off. Also, I use my sink sprayer and spray hot water into the space under the cup that you just removed. Hold it over the sink and all of the gunk will wash out.

    Thank you. Your simple descaling method with vinegar saved my Keurig when the previous descaling method with vinegar I was using was not working. Now I have delicious coffee from my Keurig K-Mini Plus again.

    Directions from my model show diagram of the bottom half of the pod holder separate, in order to clean needle. It doesnt tell you how to separate the pod holder but we squeezed the area near bottom half (at the openings in the plastic) & it came apart easily! Very helpful video!! Thank you!!!

    Good to know this , I use this machine two or three times every couple days , I will try the vinegar in my wife’s water pick and use it as a mini pressure washer.

    All of my 4 previous Keurigs have splattered coffee but I've found that putting a small spoon into the cup as it brews deflects the mess and reduces splatters by 95%. Position the spoon so that the drips hit the handle and it will keep your counters clean!

      I usually start with just hot water for a few runs before I do anything with cleaning to knock out any loose stuff so the cleaning pod can maximize

      This solution absolutely does work. I used to put cream and sugar in the cup before I would brew coffee and it would make a real splatter mess.
      But just like you, I also found out that putting a spoon in the cup deflected the stream and almost eliminated the splatter completely.

      Being Canadian I fixed the splattering by sitting my mug on a hockey puck. It has enough grip to hold it and is the perfect height for my mug. You're welcome, eh!

    Thanks for this video, I picked up some tips. I notice you mentioned you would use a knife/paper towel to clean parts of it. These machines are designed knowing that water will be flowing through 90% of them. It is OK to take your Keurig to the sink and spray water on it. I wouldn’t submerge it or anything, but spraying that upper chamber is absolutely fine. I do it all the time.

      His descaling tip is much simpler than others. Only requires the vinegar to sit as long as you like before you dispense it and rinse with water after. He basically skipped the first vinegar rinse, and did not waste or reuse vinegar.

    Another way to remove the k cup/lower needle holder is to reach below the machine and push up. It should come off fairly quickly!
    Also running 1-2 no k-cup water brews tends to dislodge the majority of the grounds from the needle before they dry. It has the added benefit of reducing flavor transfer and coffee oil build up!

    I buy a 12-pack of the Keurig rinse pods and run one every Friday. Since I'm on the municipal water system, I don't need to de-scale very often (every 3 months or so).

      fill your device with zero filtered water or use mineral free bottled water, scaling doesn't happen with proper filtered water. Saves your machine and is healthier for you.

    I found using one of those small smoothie straws scrubbers gets in that top needle well. You have to rinse it off frequently, but there’s actually a little knob on the end of my scrubber that fits perfectly inside the holes of the needle. I poke each hole, rinse, then use the bristles to gently scrub. This works on the small metal filter too. Just be gentle so you don’t accident pop it out.

    I use the plastic reusable cups and can choose and add my own choice of coffee. They need cleaning about once a month due to oils building up and clogging the screens. I put them in a bowl with white vinegar, as you did, and then place the bowl in the sink and add about a tablespoon of baking soda. It will react and foam immediately. As soon as the foaming stops they are clean (less than a minute) pour out the solution and rinse the cup. It is like new. This can be done with any small part that detaches and can be put in a bowl.

    Thanks so much for the video! I picked one of these up today Black Friday at Target for $50 (The regular version, not the Plus one) Glad to see you using vinegar. I've heard Keurig may deny your warranty if you use vinegar but the official video on their websites shows you how to descale using white vinegar in addition to their official descaling solution, and no where in the manual (At least for mine) does it say to specifically not use vinegar.
    If you ask baristas at any coffee shop what they use to clean their coffee equipment, it more then likely is vinegar, and not silly cleaning solutions sold at insane markups. Just like plumbers will typically use baking soda + vinegar to clean/declog a sink and not Drano, Liquid Plumr or other store bought solutions.

  • @OsAbliNgin911

    I will try your descaling tip to see if it will bring my Keurig back to life. There are different instructions in descaling Keurig K-Mini Plus with Vinegar. Some people do the Vinegar rinse once before they run it through again to let it sit. Also people have mixed the vinegar with water or poured the rinsed vinegar back in to run, and let sit. Also people have recommended to let it sit for 30 minutes or no more than an hour.

    Thank you for your video, cause on Keurig's web site, they don't talk about vinegar and i think they should have, cause it's a good way to clean and destroy germs. For your information, i was able to separate the pod holder without breaking anything :) so it's easier to clean it. Sorry my english isn't perfect. Thank you again.

    If you use your finger and push up on the bottom where the liquid comes out, the K-Cup holder will pop right out. That's how I always remove mine. As for the bottom section of the K-Cup holder, it does come apart, quite easily as a matter of fact. You just need to pull and gently twist at the same time to separate it. Once it is separated, you can then hold the upper section in your hand, and then take a skinny paper clip that has been straightened out or a long skinny safety pin, and stick it through the small plastic tube like structure you will see at the bottom until the head of the paper clip or safety pin comes out of the end where the needle is to remove any potential coffee grounds that may be stuck in there. If the paper clip or pin is too think, it won't go all the way through, so make sure it's thin enough and push it through slowly. After you are finished, you can reconnect the upper and lower section, but make sure it reconnects properly. When you push it back together, you will need to gently twist it until you feel it lock in to place.

    • @JAC_391
      @JAC_391 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did this and I found a loose rubber piece in there. The piece is the same as the one that goes around the lower needle. So I’m not sure if it’s an extra piece for replacement or if it goes on anything and just fell off. Can’t find anyone else saying they have two of those, so I’m really confused. Did I just get lucky?

    • @perkypokey
      @perkypokey 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JAC_391 I don't think the rubber around the lower needle is even replaceable. The Keurig user manual states that the brewer is not user serviceable. So most likely that extra rubber piece fell in there by mistake during production.

    • @TopOffMyCoffee
      @TopOffMyCoffee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The vinegar acts as a light duty descaler and disinfectant. Even putting filtered water in the reservoir it will still slowly collect dust and things every time you open the lid and the internal heating reservoir is inaccessible so it probably never or rarely dries, the vinegar helps to minimize bacterial growth inside the machine even if you don't think you are getting calcification. BTW, I love that baby blue color and the wife does too. It's a good one.

    This is the best presentation on cleaning a Keurig Mini that I've seen. I've followed everything you said to do. I have to buy vinegar still, but I did use Keurig Descaling Solution, but vinegar is much less expensive. At times during your description of cleaning process of those peepholes in the top, and my running for Qtips, I thought, maybe it's easier to just buy coffee at Dunkin' Donuts! Just kidding.

    • @42ayla
      @42ayla ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got a mini. To clean that stupid area I have a cork that I use to plug the hole in the bottom then I put in some vinegar to sit a while. I have a bendable foam bottle brush that I use after draining it to wipe what I can then wooden skewers to get the edges. Toothpicks aren't long enough. Rinse a few time using the cork to control it and Bob's your uncle.
      You could also use a bit of baking soda in the rinse to help neutralize the flavours. That's pretty much what the rinse pods are so I assume the same recipe would work for other parts too. I've been on top of mine enough I haven't needed to do that yet but for a gross office one that might be the extra help you need.
      Good luck.

    • @TopOffMyCoffee
      @TopOffMyCoffee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LOL, I usually opt for colors that hide the coffee splatter. Right now I have somewhere around 25-30 coffee makers in my home, I don't keep them all and I usually replace the one's I don't like all that much after I've reviewed them. I do like coffee but remember, this is my business too - I firmly believe that my opinions and reviews are more valuable after having purchased these machines and used them in my home for a good amount of time. Not all of my machines are Keurig but those are the machines people are actually searching for information on. I also own multiple drippers, multiple percolators, non-keurig branded k-cup machines, drip machines, french presses, chemex, and others in addition to a variety of coffee grinders and even coffee roasters. My wife is thrilled! :D Most of the time I use our well water but when I travel bottled water is usually the go to for me.

    My new model says not to use straight vinegar. Dilute it with water. Should I use straight vinegar anyway?k-supreme

      I would follow the manual and dilute.

    Ugh, I'm surprised it gets so yucky everywhere. I guess I will run a 'rinse brew' in between coffees. Thanks👍

      Honestly it's really crazy how they get so gross literally everywhere! You would think it would be confined to places that the liquid coffee touches but open up any used Keurig and you'll find it gross pretty much everywhere. It takes a lot of continual effort to keep these things clean.

    You can take it apart by Twisting it I mean the needle I have done it before and put it back together and cleaned it with the paper clip you just have to be very very careful

    I'm waiting for my new Mini to arrive. In your other video you mention puncturing the cup first before you put it in the machine. Do I just poke a hole in the top, or top and bottom ? Thanks.

      Instead of just placing the pod in the holder and closing the lid; I believe he is saying to actually push the pod down onto the bottom needle once you place the pod into the holder. This would ensure an even puncture on both the top and bottom of the pod. :) I have always made sure the pod was down in place before closing the lid. It's just less stress on the machine parts and can lengthen the relative life of the machine.

    Can you demonstrate this descaling process with the K-duo? Do you have to get the special descaling solution or can you use vinegar? The instructions on the descaling solution bottle don't tell you to pause the machine at any time to keep the solution sitting in the machine.

    I tried to descale my Keurig Supreme Plus machine when the descale light came on. I turned power off, filled the water compartment with vinegar. Then pushed 8 & 12 oz buttons at the same time. The descale light with 3 dots came on briefly then went off & did nothing. It did not descale.
