Did this for 22 years.....don't miss it. When the phone rings at 2 am, mid-january.....you know its a bitch water main break. New Hampshire winters are tough on old cast iron pipes. This crew did a great job.!!!
I did 8 years of the same thing for a city in Maine, only in the sewer department. 2 am, 20 below, up to your knees in sewage. If you think they bitch when there is no water you should hear them when the toilet doesn't flush.
I thought they were taking far to long to fix this leak. So I went into settings and increased the speed to X2, saving the local council a lot of money..
There is a mixture called flow fill that is kinda like a weak mortar. There is a heavy sand content and low cement concentration that easily flows into any cavities and sets hard but can literally be scraped with a shovel. This mixture, once it sets, won't wash out or settle so it is a pretty good choice for backfilling beneath a roadway as it won't shift and provides a stable base to reconstruct the road. It would take an adz or mechanical digging (backhoe) to dig out but the road won't fail where the patch was done.
I've been on water main breaks and never seen anyone rake the entire patch, not one shovel was used putting down the blacktop. Great job !!!!. I'm from Jersey and that road would have been all kinds of wavy and that blacktop would have been cold because the driver would have stopped for a Taylor Ham egg and cheese and a coffee, lol
Yep, that's how it's done, must be nice to have all those tools and guys. District needs a capital project though, they had already been in there at least once before.
All in one day? J\k Couldn't they just fill the last 2 feet with road base. Compact it good. Release it to traffic several days. Let it get really compacted. Dig your 6 inches back up for asphalt. That flowable fill kinda spendy. Just wondering.
Ok first you cut the tree down...then the water line breaks...then you call the city and take your chain saw and go home, then...............that's why you need 3 in a city truck....yes they all did a great job fixing the mess...
The boys done a fantastic job well done just got query why all that concrete, the next generation whose got repair the next leak there are going to face ripping out all that concrete NZ
that's not concrete... it's flowable fill... Flowable fill is a controlled low-strength material made of cement, fly ash, water, sand, and typically an air-entraining admixture. This mixture is useful for backfilling utility trenches, mud jacking, pipe bedding, abandoned sewers, and many other applications
Back wheels of fill delivering dump truck way too close to edge of excavation considering how just from vibration there was partial edge collapse during repair.
Marc Totman THIS WAS PROBLY DONE IN 2 DAY BUT IF 2 ITS BECAUSE OF ALL THE RULES & LAWS YOU HAVE TO FOLLOWS WHEN A CITY INSPECTOR IS WATCHING ESPECIALLY OSHA.
When they are in parkway or consumer yard then you have a big mess that they don't like and when they are and are replaced after numeriouse leaks then they move our into the street. I would bet the leak was repaired in say 6hr and then the road repaired another day after the slurry set up. Just my guess with 40 years in the business.
Christopher W FYI THE CONCRETE PUT IN THE DIRT IS NOT AS HARD AS CONTRETE ITS LIKE A MORTAR...EASILY CRACKS WHEN HIT WITH A BACKHOE OR BOBCAT JACKHAMMER
Refilling with concrete? Ten times more expensive than ordinary gravel refilling and almost impossible to penetrate if another leak shows up. Is this an instruction film showing how NOT to do?
Hasn't this water dept. ever heard of crush stone? Holy shit I thought they were trying to cover a Nuclear waste site with all that concrete and asphalt.
I'm not sure why they used concrete to fill the hole since it is so frikkin expensive. Why not just use pit run and then replace the top with asphalt like before? Waste of municipal money from the tax payers. Love those city workers, they love to laugh it up.

How long does it take to fix a main in the summer compared to a winter? I know every main break is different just wondering Sir

excellent ! to get a job like this done in new York city it would take an act of congress !

Very good job, nice shutdown , flushed and check chlorine level and took samples.

Also called slurry, you can use it 1 sack 2 sack. you don't need a compaction test with it.
Why not add this around repaired pipe?
@@saadmughal7203 because when it needs to be repaired again , goodluck trying to expose the pipe covered in slurry
Impressively fast and efficient work teams.
Doesn’t appear to be anybody under 40 working this job so you know it probably was done right!!

IT'S PORK ROLL!
Did everyone see the city worker grab the tailgate of the dump truck to keep it from making a lot of noise? Classy
Standing next to that noise is loud enough to make your ears ring.. been there too many times!
Wow! that was very nicely done.
Yep, that's how it's done, must be nice to have all those tools and guys. District needs a capital project though, they had already been in there at least once before.
i pity the poor people who ever have to dig that up again
Was thinking the same thing. Not sure if that was a wise choice there.
mikeallenbrown1 I don't think that was concrete. Maybe some type of screening. I could be wrong, it did come out of a mixer truck.

Simply fantastic, perfect job.
Very nice video plus big job
Awesome video of processes.
Well done! Great video
It’s going to suck if it breaks again, digging out all that concrete lol love doing this shit 👍
GREAT JOB You Guys!
I have done it and it is a tough job and you have to work around all the other utilities sewer is there also ,you don't want to hit that
Well done guys!
What a process... good job!
How many days did it take from start to finish ??? But they did a good job with the repair and cleanup !!!!!

Why not put back concrete roadway?
Igualito de eficientes acá en Puerto Rico con la "bendita" Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados. Siiiiiiiiii Pepe, sientate a esperar !!!!
What if they need to dig it up again our water mains in Australia are usually around 4’ deep
Slurry backfill 1 or 2 sack, good to see sample taken.
Why add concrete? How will they access the pipe when it again needs repair?

They need a trailer for that box. Forget breaking down and setting up that thing all the time. Way quicker

lol as soon as i saw the amblulance i was like holy shit this is in edmonton
How many days did it take to do this job
Checked my cl2 today, .95, a bit high
My city is so fucked up, they just send out a dude with a post hole digger and a can of flex seal...
Why all these years of experience people never make under streets channels for pipes passing?
This is cheaper.
The boys done a fantastic job well done just got query why all that concrete, the next generation whose got repair the next leak there are going to face ripping out all that concrete NZ
Flowable fill. It's not as hard as concrete and breaks up easily if it ever has to be redug, but it has great compaction and doesn't settle.
@@schmidt60410 Oh wow ok thank you for the answer NZ
I'd love to know what job the lass was doing , like a lot of the blokes she did'nt seem to be diong anything

She carried the headlights for night work.

I did it for 32 yrs it got old with a 100 plus yr old system
I did 20+. Liked the work grew tired of always being on call and missing family things.

are all your watermains under the road? in australia this kind of job would be done in hours, was this over a few days?

don't know why the used I max instead of maga lugs and sleevs on water line
got in my car and it smelled of natural gas. they dug up the street seems the leak was seeping into my car
Cdf or flowable fill is so much better
