Bear 🐻 spray, oh no 😬 Love the forested tree area and the views are stunning. That’s a tough scramble! You definitely got a beautiful day. The Water pool look beautiful and a perfect place for lunch. You guys were brave to jump in the freezing water. A beautiful National Park. Awesome adventure. Thumbs up 👍🏽 Well done. Have a great week guys.
I love the Tetons~ She is my kind of hiker, I love to stop and take pictures and my time. That lake and view was incredible and looked to be very cold when you jumped in. I loved loved loved this video!

This so reminds me of our family hikes, though usually not on such dramatic terrain. We live in the flatlands of Eastern Virginia and head to the Appalachian for some mountains. Nice closeup with the poop. What views!:-) Never been that way... Probably should! Our girls are close in ages to yours, but yours are such champs! My 8 year old whines for the first 3-4 miles of every hike, even just 5 milers.
Also, I kept mistaking your wife for your teenage daughter, so tell her she is doing something right!! LOL I firmly believe women deserve to hear these things from other women :-)
Already booked for May to see Grand Teton and Yellowstone! Absolutely appreciate your videos, wish my kids would come like yours. As always, stunning views! Take care.
Emily and I are headed back in September as well😁. Thank you so much! Let me know if you got any questions for the Tetons👍🏼 my favorite mountains so far! And keep bugging those kids to go with😉
Beautiful trail! Amazing views and scenery! So many stumps look like bears - I've done that many a time! 😊 Love rocks and rockiness. What a gorgeous lake...... Beautiful video, guys!!
Finally found a video with kids 🙌🏼 I want to take my girls and my husband to do this hike but I wasn’t sure because I want to take my daughters with me
I'm not going to lie, this hike is a beast! My kids have been hiking for a few years now so they know what to expect when we get into the mountains. If you're kids are hikers and they enjoy it, they should be just fine. The last push after the 3 boulder fields is pretty tough😁. The payoff is amazing! Let me know what ya think after your hike it👍🏻
Good video. Good views and the tall trees look great. The lake and the surrounding crags are lovely. Great family day out. Really enjoyed watching and subbed you. Thanks Steve.
nate salazar nice! Make sure you get up early... I hear it’s super busy now... also, hike Lake of the Crags, it’s way less crowded and just as beautiful. Just do some research on it, AllTrails app has a good recording of it. I got a video on that hike also. I’m so stoked for you! Let me know how it goes👍🏼😁

It’s a copy right free music website for creators. I should start to document what music I’m using for each video, thanks for bringing that to my attention 😁👍🏼.
We must make it look easy😉 😂 the last push to the lake we had to cross 3 boulder fields and elevation gain of around 1000 ft. I felt my age after that🤣
Backpacking With Jason super excited! First mountain hikes of the season 😁hiked in the Badlands NP a few weeks ago but it’s just not the same as the mountains ... I know you understand 👍🏼

Phenomenal lake! 😍 We didn't get to do this hike when we hiked the Tetons. Definitely have to hit this one next time. Brrrr. Takes your breath away. Nice job.
Hi Matt 👋 This video "almost" snuck by me. Lol I wouldn't have missed this for the world, I loveee seeing your amazing adventures with your beautiful family. That is so sweet you called your wife wonder woman, love that 💗 I was howling @2:50 😂 And your daughter's reaction... "Ewwww" 😂 Ohhhh wildlife, still love it 🎉 The scenery in spectacular, love how you capture every moment. It feels like I am right there with you guys 🎉 That was so neat when you and your daughter jumped into the water 🎉 What a beautiful experience for you and your family. So many memories in the making and to be talked about for many years to come. Thank you so much for sharing these fabulous videos and bringing us along to share your journey with us. Hope you and your family are keeping well. Sending lots of love 💕
Fall is my new favorite time in the mountains! Less people and wildlife is moving around pretty good. I'm always hoping for bears for some reason 🤣. That hike is great, if you enjoyed the Delta area, go for Hanging Canyon sometime 👍🏻!
Awesome stuff, buddy! What a nice little family you've got there. Glad to see you can get your girls out too. (Maybe they have no choice) My son is about all I can get, so I count myself lucky. I'm really going to have to get out to TNP. I've seen the mountains from a distance, but no visit. On the bucket list.
You can’t miss with most of the trails in the Tetons. Hanging Canyon is amazing as well. Delta Lake is much harder than Cascade Canyon. Both have top notch views! There’s not much better than the view at the end of Delta Lake Trail. Cascade Canyon is none-stop gorgeousness in all directions. Kind of different hikes all together.
@@TheMountainMatt we’re heading there in 3 weeks and we’re eying Cascade Canyon and might have time for one more before we venture over to Yellowstone. I’ll check out your other vids, we can go around 16 miles round trip in the mountains so a little challenge is ok but can’t rock climb which I wish we could after watching a few of your other vids, lol.
The colors will be prime when you are there 👍🏻! Lake Solitude is the classic Teton hike. It takes you through Cascade Canyon and up the north fork. Delta is outstanding as well, just do it as early as possible because it's very popular. Delta also has a good amount of boulder hopping and it gets fairly steep. Delta will blow your mind once you are there 🤯. Honestly, if I had only one hike in the Tetons, I would probably pick Lake Solitude. It offers so much more variety. You can't miss with either hike 😁! Early morning and later in the day the elk will be going nuts at that time of year!!!
Kent Williams Each of the hikes you mentioned are all day long hikes for sure. Definitely start around 6 or 7am so you can enjoy the whole day and not have to hurry. The elevation gain on all of those are anywhere from 2000 to 4100 feet😳. The payoff of Delta Lake is the best. There is a little route finding on Delta Lake trial. Just research it a tad. Lake Solitude trail is amazing the whole time. It’s a steady as you go hike, very long. Lake of the Crags views rival Delta Lake, but it’s much steeper, 3000 feet up in 3 miles. Lake of the Crags is not officially on the parks trails list so you won’t see anyone. Research it thoroughly before you go, some route finding required but not to difficult. Table Mtn starts near the Idaho side and is 4100 feet up and 10 miles😳. It will eat some time just getting to the trail head. You can’t go wrong with any of those hikes. I hope I helped you make a choice😁. My favorite is Lake of the Crags, I like a challenge and it feels like you’re out there alone. Bring bear spray on all of those hikes👍🏼. Let me know which one you choose😁 and how it goes! I’m jealous😁. Have a great time!
Minnesota Mountain Matt We ended up doing Delta Lake as I was torn between that one and Table Mtn which I had done before. I heard there was too much snow to complete the full loop on Table so went for Delta and loved it. My wife struggled through the boulder fields and the last steep part but said it was her all-time favorite hike.
What a great video! It has to be fun to be able to do those hikes with your whole family. That was a beautiful lake. How cold was the water when you jumped in? 32.1 degrees.....?😂
Hey love your videos and the scenery amazing. My sister and I ate heading over to teton on the 4th september for 5 days and would love to do this hike. I have read a few comments on tripadvisor that not to do this hike as there is no real trail. Is it easy to find the trail? I see your kids are young and managed the hike. If we have all trails app with the map should we be ok? I don't want to get lost another person told me an Irish guy got lost on this trail and they still haven't found him. Also with the crags trail should we even attempt that one? We aren't massive hikers coming from Australia we have done some hikes down here. I'm just more worries about getting lost
This hike is absolutely gorgeous and you should definitely do it if you are here, especially in September as the crowds are much less. We did that hike 3 years ago when it was still relatively unknown. Now there is a well established trail to the lake. AllTrails app would be a good idea just in case but the amount of people that do this hike now you should be fine. This hike is fairly difficult towards the end as there is some boulder hopping involved with a good steep grade near the lake. I’m pretty sure the Irish guy went missing in a different part of the park and it wasn’t from getting lost (bears) if you know what I mean 😬. If you’re not an avid hiker, I suggest trying to get into decent shape before attempting this hike 😁👍🏼. It is well worth it! September is incredible in the Tetons, my favorite time of year there by far!
@@katharineclaydon9920 Delta Lake is iconic and incredible but will most likely be a zoo (go very early). Crags is much steeper but much more remote. I have a video updating Hanging Canyon (Crags hike) coming out in August that you’ll want to check out in order to help make your decision. Check out my video Disappointment Peak, the first half is the same trail as Delta Lake. You can actually see Delta from the Peak. Honestly you cannot go wrong with either hike. If you only have 2 hikes in the Tetons you have to go with Lake Solitude because everyone has to experience Cascade Canyon. And then either Delta or Lake of the Crags, depending on if you want less people and/or more of a challenge. Crags is a tad more difficult.
Thanks will def check out you new video when you post it. I'm not really worried about crowds we will def go early in the morn . Just want to see these beautiful lakes and hikes as its alot different to Australia. Such a tough decision lol. I think we will def do delta lake as so pretty deciding on the 2nd one. With delta do u suggest we alos see the other 2 lakes on the trail or just stick to delta?
If you have the energy to get to Amphitheater and Surprise Lake definitely go for it, you won't be disappointed. It's all switchbacks and trail up to the other two lakes. That will be a huge day, so if you're not up for another steep huge day, then Lake Solitude would be perfect. Otherwise, if you have another big day in you, Lake of the Crags will blow your mind!
Hey there Matt. My friends and I are planning a week long trip to the Grand Tetons. Myself and another friend are experienced hikers but my other two friends are novice hikers. Any tips on what to bring and trails to get them started in the first few days we are there? Much appreciated.
You will love it there! Definitely make sure everyone is set up with a backpack and water/bladder. The novice hikers will never hike again if they get out there and not have enough water😉. We pack lunches and trail snacks to keep us going all day. If the new hikers are in shape Lake Solitude is one of the best hikes out there from start to finish. It is none stop amazing views but it is close to 18 miles. Delta Lake is a tough hike but also amazing, very busy hike though. Surprise and Amphitheater are great as well but tough. There are smaller hikes around Jenny, Phelps and Leigh/String lakes if you think they can’t handle elevation gain. Death Canyon is gorgeous as well and not as popular. The higher the elevation the more amazing the views are there👍🏼. It’s always tough hiking with newbies because you don’t want to kill them🤣 let me know how it all goes 👍🏼😁
John Fenoglio all my current videos are shot on GoPro 6/7 one on a gimbal and the other on a vlogging setup. The boss at home just let me get a GH5 and two amazing lenses! Can’t wait to upload our Beartooth Mountain and Sawtooth Mountain vids😁... I’m actually in the Sawtooths Mountains right now, amazing here😳👍🏼! I hope you enjoy!
Sometime, depending on the length of the hike we’ll use walkie talkies to communicate if/when we separate for a while. They come in handy and the kids love them.
New subscriber here as of this morning. But was wondering about how long this hike took there and back? Also, what time of year did y’all record this hike? Thank you!
Alex Jones Thanks Alex! We went at a decent pace with a good amount of stops😁. It took us about 7-8 hours. The elevation gain at the end after all the switch backs are tough but it’s well worth it! We went the end of July early August. Start it early because it’s getting to be very popular. If you want just as beautiful scenery with no where near the same amount of people hike Lake of the Crags in the Tetons. It’s strait up in 3 miles. Tougher hike but nobody will be on it. I have a video of that hike also. Lake of the Crags is not on the park hiking list so it keeps people off it👍🏼😁. AllTrails app has both hikes recorded on it for maps. Let me know if I can help with any other questions👍🏼😁
Minnesota Mountain Matt awesome man thank you! My wife and I are going to the Tetons/Yellowstone in 2 weeks for the very first time. So just trying to note certain hikes and stuff we definitely want to make time for. *Watching your Crags video now and wow! Any other tidbits you think we should know would be welcome! But thanks again and keep it up👍🏻👍🏻
Alex Jones earlier the better for wildlife😁. I wish we would have gotten up early before the sunrise to watch it come up and hit the peaks. I do that now on our trips but didn’t then. If you go late it seems like the early people scare off most of the morning wildlife. Lake Solitude is a long but great hike also👍🏼. If you don’t want to hike 17 miles just hike up into Cascade Canyon, that’s about half way to Lake Solitude. The canyon walls tower over you on each side like 2000 feet up😳. Lake Solitude, Delta Lake and Lake of the Crags are all amazing! Can’t go wrong with any of those if you have limited time. Personally, if I only had one hike it would be Lake of the Crags because of the solitude of the hike. Delta is probably a tad prettier but more people. I’m so happy for you that you’re going 👍🏼😁. Can’t say enough about AllTrails app, if you don’t have it get it and familiarize yourself with it fully, it saved me a few times😉
That trip was at the Snowking Resort. Otherwise there are all kinds of other smaller motels and hotels ranging in prices. Although, Jackson is a pretty expensive town.
I am going to tetons this week. This trail is on my list. I have read so much about how hard this trail is. Even super fit people that do crossfit 5 times a week have told me this has kicked their ass. I hear nothing but warnings from people not to do this trail. Nothing but warnings from athletes saying its beyond tough. So then i see your kids do it like its a day at Disney with juice boxes and flip flops. Im 56 female in good shape. Thoughts?
Vicky Mastroianni if you’ve hiked before and are familiar with pushing yourself, you should be ok. There is some rock scrambling and good incline gain for the last mile or so. Some route finding as well. My kids have been hiking for about 5 years now so they know what it takes if you really want to see what’s at the end😁. It was hard for them but we just took as much time as they needed. If you start early and take your time you should be ok. I won’t lie, it’s hard. But the payoff is the best! Cascade Canyon is absolutely beautiful as well and not as difficult. Lake of the Crags is gorgeous also but as hard or a little harder than Delta Lake. If you want solitude and amazing beauty Lake of the Crags is a good one. I’d love to know how you hike goes! Good luck!
@@soupnfresh A gun is nice for the most dangerous thing in nature - man. Some are animals. I’d be much more worried in a city that out there by far. Much more likely to die driving than in nature. That said a can a bear spray worn on a chest pack is very much recommend anywhere in this area.
Is Your family as excited to see a bear as you are? I’m guessing not. That would be much like our family I think. Ha ha. I definitely would not have jumped in that lake though. Brrr!

@@TheMountainMatt We roll out pretty early especially in the fall when it gets dark sooner plus to avoid crowds. Thanks for the advice and take care.
Awesome video. If you has time for just one long hike in the Tetons, which would you do between Delta, Solitude, Lake of the Crags, Table Mtn, etc?
Kent Williams tough hike but well worth it👍🏼... glad you got up there! That last push is a beast!
What a great video! It has to be fun to be able to do those hikes with your whole family. That was a beautiful lake. How cold was the water when you jumped in? 32.1 degrees.....?😂
Great Lakes Backpacker you nailed it🥶
Hey love your videos and the scenery amazing.
Great thanks for the advice. Also do you think we should tackle the crags hike? If we only did one which one would you say is the best
@@TheMountainMatt thanks! My plan is to document every day we are out there and post it on TH-cam! Hopefully I dont kill my friends.
@@evanwatz they’ll love it!
What kind of camera are you recording with? You got some great shots!
Is that a GPS or a radio on your shoulder strap?
What hotel did you stay at?
That trip was at the Snowking Resort. Otherwise there are all kinds of other smaller motels and hotels ranging in prices. Although, Jackson is a pretty expensive town.
i like ........ 37 ......... bravo
GREEK SONG - POEM Giannis Giortsis thank you kind sir😁!
What month did u visit
That was the first week of August a few years ago.
Good luck!
I did it! Yes you have to be in shape. If you are not a regular to exercise this would be very very difficult.
@@vickymastroianni8929 it’s always worth it in the end... most of the time😁
What about running into dangerous animals? A hiker has been missing the last few months in that area.
Brrr!
Someday maybe I’ll get lucky enough to see a bear😂 that water was surreal 😳
