LAKE SOLITUDE VIA CASCADE CANYON, INSPIRATION POINT & HIDDEN FALLS: GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK

  • Possible my favorite hike to date, Lake Solitude sits perched atop the North Fork of Cascade Canyon in Grand Teton National Park. On your way up to Cascade Canyon enjoy a stop at Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point which overlooks all of the Jackson Hole valley. Lake Solitude is one of the most spectacular and relaxing alpine lakes in the Teton Range, and with a gradual elevation change for most of the way, makes for a great destination for a day-hike! Get ready for an all day nature soaked adventure or split it up by backpacking somewhere in or near Cascade Canyon. Best advice I have for this hike is... just keep going!

    Hey Matt, hope all has been well. I'm eyeing the Tetons for late September. I'm usually on a slimmer budget 🙃but what airport do you recommend flying into? I know Jackson is the closet but wasn't sure which one you usually use. Thanks for any info.

    • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Drew it’s been a while! I love flying into Jackson, the decent alone is worth it. If you start looking now you could find a good price. I think the lowest I paid was around $350. It’s expensive to fly into JH but if you can pull it off it’s something you should experience. Otherwise, SLC is around 5 hours south. Bozeman would be your closest north. Super pumped for you! Kane Lake comes out in a couple months, thought of you a tad while editing it 👍🏼…. Billings might be an option as well.

      Sounds like you’re going to have an amazing hiking season as well😁👍🏼. That’s a long hike but none stop views! If you can make it a loop, by going cascade canyon to lake solitude and then through paintbrush canyon. It’s almost the exact distance but you’ll need a ride to your vehicle when you done.
      All my vids from Sage Creek Loop in the Badlands were filmed with GoPros on a gimbal. DJI has great gimbals for iPhone if you’re interested. • @TheMountainMatt
      @TheMountainMatt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We hiked Solitude the first week of August a couple years ago now. At the end of May you will definitely have snow (maybe lots) up high. I would take hiking gaiters and possibly micro spikes for steep areas. The snow on the trail might be packed then from other hikers but I’d have to believe that not many will have gone all the way to Solitude at the end of May. Solitude will most likely have some ice if not completely frozen over still. The end of May should be much less people, so that’s good! It’s an ALL day hike for sure. When we day hike we bring a bladder of water per person. Someone carries the food and we also bring a small first aid kit as well. Snacks are a must 👍🏼😁. This hike is so beautiful the entire way, it would still be worth it to go as far as you can if there is to much snow. I’d love to know what it’s like at the end of May, please let me know😁! Emily and I are going back in mid September, can’t wait! Best mountains in the lower 48!

    Matt, this video is great! I've got a flight booked to the Tetons later this year, and Lake Solitude out and back is the top hike on my Teton list. Props to your kids for doing such an awesome job as well. The moose was great... went to Glacier last year and didn't see a single moose.... hoping my luck changes this year.
    Video/audio quality was fantastic. If you don't mind my asking, what were you using to shoot this?
    Thanks for the video! It's elevated my excitement for my trip.

      KeeFr Hikes all videos that I currently have uploaded are shot on GoPros 6/7, the 6 on a gimbal and the 7 on a vlogging setup. The boss just recently let me purchase a Panasonic GH5 that I am super stoked to use😁. When you’re in the Tetons hike Lake of the Crags for sure! It’s 3 miles straight up but the payoff is the best! Plus it’s not on the parks hikes list so nobody is on it👍🏼. Delta Lake is pretty amazing as well 😳! We’re already planning for the Tetons next year 😁! I’m super excited for you as well!

      @@TheMountainMatt BTW...I only discovered this hike today. I was going to go in to the Wind River Range at Island lake. But since it's my first ever hike, and I'm 65, I thought it might be smarter to go in to an area with a quick payoff....just in case I can't make it. I will attempt to reach where the trail splits, then turn around. Sounds like that's about 4 miles one way from the dock. If I can't breath, or something else goes wrong, at least I got over the lake and between the mountains. Even if I stop at two miles, it will be beautiful. Again, thank you.

      jmpmusva lake Solitude is definitely hard because it’s so long. If you start early enough you should be ok 👍🏼. Cascade Canyon is so amazing just by itself, once you turn towards Solitude it gets even better. A nice consistent pace and you’ll be good😁, let me know how you do👍🏼!
