      I travelled from the USA to attend the funeral and many of his league of friends and colleagues were there. It was well worth the trip to meet many of our mutual friends and to say goodbye to my old friend and partner.

    Mick Linnard here... I remember this gig although I'm not sure it was in 1988, maybe earlier. However, David and I played "Take 5" at hundreds of gigs. In fact, I did not know that this live gig was tapped. This is actually one of the better versions because I just played until I ran out of juice on the solos or David wanted to stop it. Nobody else on the acoustic scene would attempt this Jazz classic because it was in 5/4. For musicians, the solo was played over Gm7-Dm7, which means that you play an F diatonic scale or G Dorian scale throughout the solo, with the odd chromatic run. Because David was as solid as a rock on his 5/4 I was able to run across the bars and he never lost his rhythm. Interestingly this was always a gig filler and we never recorded it on a record. We did a record, issued as a cassette, of a gig at Dartford which has it with a double bass player and congas, which is also very good as well.

      Wonderful note Mick, much appreciated. There aren’t many people I would make a 1000 mile round trip to see, but you and David were worth it every single time. The two of you together had that rarest of gifts that allowed you to bounce off each other effortlessly and it was mesmerising to watch and listen. Space when it was needed augmented with sublime sensitive solo's and that unmistakable 'solid as a rock' rhythm. Besides, you also had some mighty fine songs in the repertoire and David was a seriously talented songwriter. Time to start the campaign to get ‘Russell Square’ reissued!

      @@LEMANPRODUCTIONSARCHIVE A number of years ago I'm sure David did a CD version, but it has since been removed, with only his solo work on sale. I need to ask Taylor and Ruby if I can go in and release it again. I think it needs a little work on some of the tracks. Recording David's Martin guitar was always very difficult and on "Rain in Nivelle" it needed more compression I think. However, Bill Leader did a pretty good job of the production and mixing. I need to get to work on the booklet.

      @@littleredtreepublishing9718 Hi Mike, I've not found any CD versions of it, but it's worth a conversation if you're interested in doing it! I've sent you a couple of emails but I wonder if they might have hit your spam filter.

      @@sirozzyalot David I'm sure, released a CD version some years ago he dropped it from his website before he died. I'm sure his son would not object to re-releasing it. I'd like to remaster it myself because the MP3 versions I have are a bit low and not very bright. I'm sure modern editing could bring out some of the tones better than I have.

      @littleredtreepublishing9718 it's Taylor here. I just thought you won't realise my TH-cam name was actually me!
      As I say, I've sent you a couple of emails, so if you've not got them, let me know, and I'll try again so we can chat about it! :)

    I have the album Russell Square, as well as most of David's CDs. Such an original and under rated songwriter and guitarist. I wonder is he still playing?

      David's son here. He retired in 2019 after a health issue during a tour and sadly passed away last month.
      I'm glad to hear you have so much of his music still!

      @@sirozzyalot Thanks so much for getting in touch (I think you might be Taylor?). Ruby actually kindly contacted me a few weeks ago to say that David had passed. We lost touch gradually after he left London, but I have only good memories of him as a musician and a person. I really hope his brilliant music continues to find an audience.

      @Mike Fox that's me!
      Ah, that's good. Not always easy to know who's been told and who's not.
      Me too. It's nice for us to be able to see so much of it online still.

      @@sirozzyalot Absolutely. More seems to be coming available too. I saw that Jacqui McShee has recently put quite a lot of stuff up, which is great.
