Such a joy working with your grandkids, my 12 yr old grandson is helping me restore his father 1989 Honda Prelude. I love the girls sense of humor, it's obvious they enjoy spending time with their grandpa.

Hank, my hats off to you for teaching the girls stuff like this….They’ll be amazed at how much mechanical knowledge like this will help them throughout life. I would make one recommendation in regards to the carburetor……teach them how to rebuild the original carburetor. They are simple for the most part, and that ole Ford will probably like the original carburetor better than the Chinese one. I’ve had too many issues with Chinese stuff in general, and I do my best to steer clear of it.

The pipe tape is called teflon tape or plumber's tape.
The banjo fitting gets 2 crush washers. The bolt goes through one crush washer, then the fuel hose, then another washer, and then threads into the carb.

You need two copper sealing washers one on each side of Banjo Fitting to make it seal.

۞ the Rotor Button is inside the Distributor Cap... what you're playing with is the Rotor... the button is inside the center of the distributor cap and it touches the rotor to transfer the electricity

Banjo fittings are supposed to have a copper gasket on each end.
I don't know tractors that well, but it has a1960-1969 Chrysler alternater on it.
Maybe use two nuts to lock onto the carbureter studs instead of vice grips. Great working with your granddaughter s 👍👍
The flip top is for oil and keeps out grit. Zerks are typically grease but I have machines that use Zerks for oil. Pain. I use a paint sprayer rig to dip into oil and blow it into the zerk on a hose.

Carbs are usually pre set. However😢 the best way to find out is to turn the set screws all the way down, counting the turns. Should be anywhere from 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 turns. That gets it close.. Be sure you hook up cables and rods on carb before tightening it up.

Don't forget everything's to battery powered too and no gas or carbs and no fuel injection too now ,,,,,,especially in California now too.... it sucks too ..too muck knowledge is getting missed too now too...
Flat spot on trans housing justb aft of starter on top should be your numbers for model it will be specific like 600,620,640 ect. You may have to wire brush the area to find.

Ive worked on and rebuilt mowers and tractors since i was 16 years old im now 44 and disabled but the points set on .010-.024 depending on the coil s some are more for example the gravely wicco coils uae very very high voltage and require .042 gap and magnetos ie on moat flywheels sets at 2 business cards or about .020-.022 alot of the old ford cars and tractors were very picky and had tight gap tolerances if I remember correctly its .08-.012 please some of the ole ford and ih tech savy correct me if im remembering incorrectly

the set up to me looks like it may be for 6 ft wide lay off plows, cultivators, or a bush hog ive never seen the fenders on backwards before wild looking configuration on the exhaust pipe not making fun of it it just looks different its good your teaching them trouble shooting skills thats 90 percent of fixing stuff good job girls !!! crack heads use starting fluid !!! 😂😂😂

good job .. yeah you did need a small gasket instead of all that teflon pipe tape but its not leaking... just keep an eye on it.. some cardboard might work too.. like hard shoe box cardboard not the corrugated brown cardboard... anyway .. good job

Tractor might be 6v old tractors were. My N does but a foolish guy tried to convert it to 12 but it burns points. Good luck.
